East Africa last year Dr. a. 8. Hitchcock, botanist of tlis United States Department of Agriculture, was 1m pressed with the vast fields of corn grown la Africa.
This Indian corn, called "i by the Africans, was introduced from the United States and Is now grown on a large scale by white planters Doctor Hitchcock said he felt as if ho were traveling through our corn belt while in South Africa. The natives, also, are growing more of it each year, replacing some of the sorghums which are the chief crop.
Corn is net the only American crop adopted by the Africans, for Doctor Hitchcock found the Irish potato, the sweet potato, and the caaava, a Bra sliian plant, the source of tapioca, no* grown extensively there. The fleshy root of the casava is one of the standard foods of that region.
William Fellendorf spoke in favor of this plan sad suggested that tennis courts also be provided for the men of the Village.
W. T. L- Dickie expressed his desire to back up Mr. Makay and stated that in his opinion that the work of beautifying the parks should stop and that the parks should be used as play grounds for the children.
Herbert Foster appeared before the Board and added his complaint to that of the Cliff side Club relative to the remaining broken stones lying on the beach near the beach jetty and now exposed by the tide. Mayor

The State Bank of Sea Cliff was designated as a bank of deposit for the funds of the Village and also for the funds of the School District.
