✤ Genesis 1:26-27 - Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Ephesians 4:24 - Put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

✤ “There are no gradations in the image of God. Every man from a treble white to a bass black is significant on God’s keyboard, precisely because every man is made in the image of God.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

✤ God gave us sex.

✤ Genesis 1:28 - God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

✤ God gave us senses.

✤ Genesis 1:29-30 - Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.

✤ God gave us Sabbaths.

✤ Genesis 1:31-2:3 - God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

✤ In Jesus we find a Sabbath for our soul.

Points to Ponder 1. Which is more amazing to you: (1) God made people or (2) God re-makes people?

Defend your answer. 2. Write “In His Image” on your bathroom mirror using soap or a Sharpie. Worship every

morning as you meditate on how God re-made you amazing! 3. Read Psalm 139:13-14 (one of the “creation songs” of the Old Testament). Make at

least three connections from that psalm to tonight’s message.

Homework For Next Week: Genesis 2:18-25

“To have been thought about, born in God’s thought, and then made by God, is the dearest, grandest and most precious thing in all thinking.”

~ George MacDonald
