    Alhamdulillah, I am very grateful to the Almighty God, who has bestowed me the

    will to complete my assignment about In Room Technology Improvement which is

    connected to our scheme Front Office Management, HTH225. Here, I would like to take

    involved directly or indirectly in this assignment especially my beloved Miss Jazira bt

    Anuar which is my HTH225 lecturer.

    In this assignment, I examine that there are a lot of type of in room technology

    that hotel apply in their room. The technology that I have chosen is very sophisticated

    that can make the entire guest satisfied with the hotel. Furthermore, this technology can

    make more profit to the hotel because it can give convenience to the guests. I believe,

    all the hotel in Malaysia must use this kind of technology in order to compete with other

    hotel in all over the world.

    Wireless Digital Assistant (WDA)

    Wireless Digital Assistant is a powerful, multi-purpose device providing the ultimate in

    convenience for touch screen guest control of room temperature, lighting, drapes and

    the alarm clock.

    Wireless Digital Assistant is also connected by wireless Internet same like a laptop but

    with a lot of functions which is designed to received and send input or any output to

    displays guest services information and communications, and it also automated with

    CRM updating and facilitates staff reporting functions.

    The Wireless Digital Assistant can be configured to display room temperature, Do Not

    Disturb/Make-Up-Room and the patent-pending ecoMODE. With a just a touch away,

    guest can have the all the conveniences without moving from their bed or from the work

    desk which is totally different with the conventional practices in hotel nowadays.

    When not being used for those functions it displays a rotating series of images chosen

    by the property and display any promotion that going on in the hotel. Besides its guest

    convenience functions, it also one of the hotel advertising channel to contact guest even

    they are in the room.

    The Wireless Digital Assistant is small in size and tablet shaped, which is placed on the

    work desk. Since it is portable and integrated with the IRAS using wireless Internet,

    Wireless Digital Assistant can be carried to the bed for the guest convenience.

    and guests. With the simple touch of the Green Button,

    guests activate the thermostat's enhanced energy-saving

    mode and effortlessly opt-in to a host of environmentally

    friendly programs predetermined by the hotel.

    ecoMODE is a special setting available as an option

    on all styles of e4 Smart Digital Thermostats, as well as INNCOM switches and touch-

    screen devices.

    ecoMODE is designed for any hospitality establishment that seeks to demonstrate afirm commitment to environmental sustainability practices.

    In the simplest ecoMODE system, pressing the Green Button will trigger an enhanced

    energy savings setback, as well as illuminate a green LED to indicate the guest's

    sustainability program participation to staff. In a centrally controlled system, notification

    The WDA is designed to be easy to use by the guest while giving them a sense of being

    provided advanced guestroom technology. The touch screen buttons provide the guest

    with an unparalleled level of control over a variety of guestroom devices.

    It eliminates all the buttons and switch, which are the conventional way that is still

    practiced by hotels nowadays. By using WDA, guest can just carry the unit in the room

    even they are on the bed since the unit is tablet shaped which are ergonomically

    patented based on years of research.

    The unit normally place on the working table or on the bed side table and it come with a

    cradle that helps it to stand. The cradle that not only serves to keep it displayed at an

    angle on the table but also recharges the tablet.

    The WDA is used as a state-of-art room control replacing typically multiple guest control

    interfaces. As an HVAC controller or thermostat interface it will display all the control

    functions available on the thermostat.

    As a key node in an Integrated Room Automation System (IRAS), the WDA receives

    information from various devices and sends outputs to control those same devices as

    well as others where no inputs are generated. It replaces the alarm clock, adds an array

    of control functionality normally not available at the bedside or on the desk an can

    display a rotation of visual imagery chosen by the property.

    When it is connected to INNCOM's centrally controlled system additional functionality

    can be delivered to the guest including room service ordering, butler calls, up-to-date

    news and other web sourced information.

    The WDA controls lights and lamps equipped with the INNCOM L206 or L208 Lamp

    Control Module or other devices connected to the S5 bus or equipped to receive

    wireless signals.

    Accurate temperature control

    With digital temperature control, guest can really have their preferred room

    temperature which is totally different than the conventional temperature control panel

    which the guest needed to set the thermostat manually.

    Energy management

    WDA helps the company or the property to monitor and manage wisely the energy

    usage since WDA have the function to automatically turn off or can set the

    temperature accordingly based on the room temperature. It can reduce the wasted

    energy that used when the degree of temperature is set not at the appropriate

    temperature.

    In room drapery such as towel or face towel, can be recorded and controlled using

    this interface device. This will help the property to control energy used, so that they

    can save and reduce pollution in term of chemical usage.

    Clock/Alarm Clock

    One of WDA function that helps guest and replaced the conventional clock which

    normally beside the bed. It also can be set for alarm or for a wake up call which the

    input that will be send straight to the Front Desk by using IRAS.

    World Time

    Guest can be from any side of the world, which means they are from various of

    countries and of course; their time is different. By having world clock, it can help

    them to get to know what the current time for their country is.

    Do-not-disturb and make-up-room button

    WDA is connected directly to IRAS which enable guest to show their status just by a

    touch. Guest does not have to call the Front Desk to inform to be in the status Do-

    not-disturb (DND) and hang the sign on the door knob. It will automatically turned

    the light at the room door to show the DND status and Housekeeping can easily be

    informed which room need to be make-up by the make-up-room button on the

    device.

    Butler/Bellman/Shoeshine

    At a less effort, guest can just click or select the services on the device to call up thebutler, bellman or even shoeshine service and it eliminate the conventional way

    which the guest need to call various department to get the services.

    Room Service Functions

    The WDA device is like a directory book which contained menu of Room Services

    and guest can straight away order whatever they needed and it can be delivered

    straight away and the order will be more accurate than old fashioned way which is by

    pen and paper.

    In-room Doorbell Annunciation

    Say goodbye to irritating sound of conventional doorbell, since WDA have the

    function of announcing the doorbell in a better sound. It is also as a tourism industry

    trends nowadays where most of the hotels does not apply doorbell anymore.

    Information & Contacts

    Guest can easily upload their information or any of their colleagues contact number

    in the devices and it will more easier for them to call them which just a click away.

    Local Services Information (Restaurants, Taxi/Limos, Theaters, Airlines, Maps,

    etc.)

    Since the device is connected to the Internet as well as the IRAS, guest can search

    for any local services information they needed and guest does not have to contact or

    go down to concierge just to get some information since everything can be done in

    the room.

    Multiple Language Display

    Same function as the world clock, multiple language display an array of choices to

    the guest for their convenience since not all guest are English literate. They may

    choose the language they prefer and it will make a lot easier for them to use any of

    the hotel services.

    Preferred Guest Info/Request for Info

    Hotel normally will keep the guest information for their references in the future in

    order to enhance the guest satisfaction. It is not easy to get the guest information,

    unless we need to contact them personally. Thanks to WDA, the processes to get

    the information are easier which guest can just fill up the digital form inside the

    device.

    Guest Comment Card

    Every hotel mostly will place a guest comment card for the guest to evaluate how the

    experience and degree of the guest satisfaction was. By having digital guest

    comment card, there will be no more card on the work desk and indirectly, reduce

    the cost for the company in term of printing the card.

    Visual Aids for Hearing Impaired (ADA)

    ADA stands for American Disable Act which has the guidelines for the convenience

    of the disable people. WDA have visual aids for the hearing impaired people whichwill help the disable people to use the device correctly.

    Audio Aids for Sight Impaired (ADA)

    ADA stands for American Disable Act which has the guidelines for the convenience

    of the disable people. WDA have audio aids for the sight impaired people which will

    help the disable people to use the device correctly.

    Housekeeping Reporting

    Since the WDA is connected directly with IRAS (or can be considered as PMS),

    housekeeping can easily produce a report of any event that occurred from the guest

    such as drapery request or make up room request. Guest also can notify

    housekeeping straight away by using this device which is more efficient.

    Maintenance Reporting

    Same function with the housekeeping report above, guest can also easily contact theengineering department is they find any problem with the parts of the room.

    Mini-Bar Usage Reporting

    During guest check out or turn down service, the housekeeping department can just

    inform the Front Desk about the mini-bar consumption and they can directly produce

    a report regarding it.

    CONCLUSION

    First of all, I would like express our endless gratitude to my beloved Miss Jazira bt Anuar

    for her guidance which really helps me in order to finish the assignment given.

    As a conclusion, I believed that Wireless Digital Assistant (WDA) was a genius invention

    in order to achieve guest satisfaction as well as profit for the property. WDA is created

    and invented full with latest technologies which symbolize the property concern about

    the changing wind of trends nowadays.

    WDA is not just a tablet, but it is a unit that keeps everything just a touch away from the

    guest. WDA contain almost everything, from clock until searching information needed;

    even the property can generate various type of report for their usage in order to increase

    their level of services.

    Hospitality industry never quiet from new invention and trends, and WDA is one

    of it. It is a sign of how dedicated people who are involved in the industry to gain the

    satisfaction of the guest, and a sign of good competition in the world today. INNCOM

    push their R&D team in order to make sure the product is up to date and attractive to

    stand out from competitor. INNCOM also never run out of idea and they always

    introduce new product for the customer convenience.
