NOVEMBER, Our “Month of Remembrance” Our Mass of Remembrance at the 10:30 a.m. Mass this weekend
unites us in praying for those parishioners who have gone before us in faith as we support families and friends of our loved ones who have died. Their names will also be lifted up in prayer at the Saturday 4:30 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. Masses.
We welcome families and friends of former and recently deceased members, whose memorial services were offered through I.C. or St. Michael,

Please feel free to make a “pilgrimage” around the church to remember those who have been part of our I.C. and St. Michael communities and who have died or been buried from our
churches in the past 2 years. Find those whose services were between

those from November 1st, 2020 - October 31st, 2021, on the choir side of the church;
the St. Michael listing is from 2019-2021 and on the window of the Holy Family Room.
Add names of loved ones to our “Book of Remembrance”
located near the banner on the tabernacle side of the church.
They will be remembered at Masses throughout the month.

GOSPEL MEDITATION -ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE November 7, 2021 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
On December 10, 1979, a very petite holy woman known as Mother Teresa of Calcutta spoke these words in her Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance speech, “But I am sure in the families and many of our homes, maybe we are not hungry for a piece of bread, but maybe there is somebody there in the family who is unwanted, unloved, uncared, forgotten, there isn’t love. Love begins at home. And love to be true has to hurt. I never forget a little child who taught me a very beautiful
lesson. They heard in Calcutta, the children, that Mother Teresa had no sugar for her children, and this little one, Hindu boy four years old, he went home and he told his parents: I will not eat sugar for three days, I will give my sugar to Mother Teresa. How much a little child can give. After three days they brought into our house, and there was this little one who could scarcely pronounce my name, he loved with great love, he loved until it hurt. And this is what I bring before you, to love one another until it hurts, but don’t forget that there are many children, many children, many men and women who haven’t got what you have. And remember to love them until it hurts.” Living authentically and walking with holiness always involves sacrifice. It has to hurt. Only actions springing from true and deep sacrifice demonstrate true integrity. Without sacrifice, even what is apparently a generous gesture can be nothing. It is no wonder that the widow who contributed from her poverty received great admira-tion from Jesus and the young child in our story above the interest of Mother Teresa. It is easy to make the houses of our lives look like they are in perfect order when in fact they are in shambles within. Religion can sometimes make this hypocritical masquerade easy to accomplish. We can find ourselves in all the right holy places, reciting all of the correct prayers, participating in community collections, and reciting the proper doctrines only to find ourselves empty, shallow, self-focused, and overly anxious about personal concerns. The one who learns to discover their inner poverty, their spiritual poverty, is the only one who can truly place him or herself at the mercy of God. It is only when we allow ourselves to be empty that we realize Who we actu-ally need to fill us. This is the real meaning of trust. Many of us are afraid to take the plunge. We allow ourselves to detach from only so much, always keeping a watchful eye on the protection of our securities. We understand the value of poverty, but we do not want to become too poor. As long as we are able to recognize this tension, our reluctance to let go and our struggle, we can continue our journey of humbly learning how to love so deeply that it hurts. God understands and waits.
“HARVEST of THANKSGIVING”Contribute to our “Harvest of Thanksgiving” as
we count our blessings at the close of our liturgical year. During the weeks of November 14th & 21st,
all are invited to write down expressions of gratitude on paper fruits or vegetables for
placement on our cornucopia on thebulletin board near the water font.
Nonperishable food for our localMessiah Food Pantry will be
received in the designated totes and boxes prior to
Thanksgiving, and may also be presented at our
Thanksgiving Day Mass.

Both widows in today’s readings gave all they had to the work of the Lord, one
using all her remaining food to feed Elijah and the other offering her two copper coins to the temple treasury. Faithful
stewards give all that is asked and trust the Lord to be faithful to His promises.
EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS
The Look Have you ever made the mistake of telling your spouse that you’re out of something — only to see them respond with The Look? Then you realize it: of course, he or she knows you’re out of butter. They knew it before a butter shortage was even a blip on your radar. We might go to the fridge and lament the complete lack of ketchup. Then someone moves a couple items and show us the ketchup that so savagely eluded us just moments before. Sometimes, we all have “the look” when dealing with God. We tell Him our stores are empty. “I’m out, God! I can’t do any more! Can’t give any more. Can’t take any more. It’s all gone.” But we forget: God is the keeper of our stores. He is the one who fills them, and the one who watches as they empty. See, we don’t know how much we are capable of loving. We don’t know how much we are capable of serving. We don’t know how much we are capable of hoping. We see everything with spouse eyes. Only our Creator truly knows the limits of His creation. Do you ever make the mistake of telling God “I’m done”? Be careful the next time you do. Chances are, He’s far from finished working. — Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

IC Did You Know….. A School Tuition Organization (STO) is a charitable or-ganization that receives voluntary cash contributions from Iowa taxpayers and allocates those funds in tuition grants to Iowa school children, who use those grants to attend one of the accredited non-public schools represented by the STO. At least ninety (90%) of the money received by an STO must go back out in tuition grants. It is possible for a donor to restrict 50% of their gift to one or more school/s or system/s supported by the Our Faith STO. As an Iowa taxpayer, you can contribute to the STO and receive an Iowa tax credit equal to 75% of your contribution. The amount you contribute qualifies as a charitable donation on your federal tax return as well. -Directly quoted from the OurFaithSTO.org website This year, 71 students from I.C. School in K-6th grade were awarded over $47,000 in tuition assistance through STO. More information can be found at www.OurFaithSTO.org.
FIRST RECONCILIATION Please pray for our 2nd
grade students at IC School and in the
Faith Formation program, as they prepare to
celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on
Wed., Nov. 10th, at 6:45 p.m. at I.C. Church.
Three Snyder brothers, Leonard, Arthur and Bertrand, moved to Charles City, IA, from Preston, MN, to work
for Sherman Nursery in 1929. All their children graduated from IC school, also their grandchildren and many great
grandchildren. At last count, 127 descendants of the 3 Snyder brothers went to IC or were (and are) teachers
there in the last 92 years….still many there now! I am a proud granddaughter...Vickie Shollenbarger
We Are All Pumpkins in His Eyes. God picks you from the patch and brings you in. (John 15:16) Then He washes all the dirt off of you. (2 Corinthians 5:17) He opens you up and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of sin. (Romans 6:6) Then He carves you a new smiling face and makes you into a new creation. (Ezekiel 36:26, 2 Corinthians 5:17) And He puts His light in side you to shine for all the world to see. (Matthew 5:16)
