Sunday School has concludedfor this year.

Sunday School will beginagain on Sunday, September12, which will be Rally Day.

Hybrid Worship begins thisSunday! We are very excited to be phasingforward this week to hybridworship. What we mean by hybrid isthat some of the congregation willbe participating via zoom and otherswill be in the sanctuary. This bringssome new technological challenges,so we ask for a bit of patience as weget used to the new practices. We strongly encourage those who are not vaccinated to continue to worship viaZoom. Although we will be taking care and the positivity rates are down in ourcounty and state below 2%, we believe that in person worship for those notvaccinated is still a high risk activity. For those worshipping in the sanctuary, know that we will be using masks nomatter our vaccination status. We will also ask people to socially distance andto refrain from singing. We know for many, the chance to be together is very exciting and the chance tosee friends in person may come with the impulse for hugs and handshakes, butwe ask that you refrain for the moment. We want to create a safe environmentand a culture of care for one another. We will have fellowship time outside following worship for those who want acold drink and a time to chat. Per CDC guidance, masks will not be requiredoutdoors. We will also have virtual fellowship time for those participating viazoom with a laptop where folks at the church can interact. We expect to be learning as we phase into this new worship experience! And aspositivity numbers continue to decrease and vaccination rates continue toincrease in our area, we expect to be able to continue to relax some of oursafety protocols in the months ahead.

The full protocols can be found here: Worship Protocols.

The Church in Action

Beginning this Sunday, July 11, the United Church ofChrist is gathering for its National Meeting – alsoknown as General Synod. Synod happens every twoyears. This is the first time that it will be entirelyvirtual. Something like 700 delegates are part of thedecision making process of Synod. They come fromeach conference and are carefully selected to reflectour inclusive values – balancing factors including

age, gender, clergy and laity, and race.

Like most Annual Meetings, Synod includesthe work of elections, budgets, and bylaws. ButSynod also considers a wide variety ofresolutions brought from localchurches. (There are 3 resolutions from NHthis year!) These resolutions are discussed, debated, amended (sometimes significantly)and then voted. As with all settings of the UCC,Synod speaks only for itself, but we areencouraged to listen and the engage – though not necessarily to agree. I have had the joy of participating in a number of Synods through the year –occasionally as a delegate, but also as a visitor and a volunteer. The keynotesand worship services are often amazing and workshops broaden understandingin a great number of areas. Because Synod is fully virtual this year, any of us can register as visitors andparticipate. Go to www.generalsynod.org for all the information. There will alsobe daily news updates on Synod’s activities.

Our Prayer List is published weekly as a linkhere in Steeple Chat.

If you have prayer concerns that should beincluded in our weekly listings, please contactthe church office at 742-5664 or by email at:[email protected].

We are excited toannounce the CochechoChallenge HalfMarathon and 5k willreturn on SaturdaySeptember 4th!!

We are in search ofVolunteers for this amazing race & would appreciate your help and support:

1. Food Coordinator2. 27 Road Marshalls (Age 18 + older)3. Water Station attendants4. Registration5. Bib Pickup

What are the Road Marshall responsibilities? They are to give runners the rightof way to vehicles. The runners expect you to stop traffic, to keep them safeAND to direct them in the correct direction to go. Being vocal to the runners isa must as they are relying on you.

We hope you can take time on the holiday weekend to come support FPC andthe many runners and walkers who participate. It is a major fundraiser for ourchurch, and we couldn't succeed without all your help!

Amy Perry recommendsWaking Up White and FindingMyself in the Story of Raceby Debby Irving.

Reading this book. Amy reflectshelped me realize how much mycaucasian heritage has defined mylife. I have the coloring and the facial

features that are "normal" in our American, New England culture. Assuch I've never had people look at me or treat me as an outsider. And,when referring to other people whose heritage is not caucasian I mightnote them as African American, Native American, Asian American, etc. it didn't occur to me to include my own racial heritage, caucasian,as part of a person's description. As if being white were The Standardfor race.

Increasingly our country is showing ourwonderful diversity. This author's

observations and reflections helped mebecome more aware of how I cancelebrate that in my interactions with anddescriptions of others. In Peace & Friendship,Carolyn RickerE-mail: [email protected]: 603-520-7385
