2017 Bond Election
Andover has long been a leader in excellence as it relates to fa-cilities, academic and athletic achievement. The district, in partnership with our community, has studied its facilities for the past year. We are committed to providing opportunities for our students to successfully learn and grow.
The bond issue seeks to: im-prove safety and security, ad-dress necessary facility im-provements, enhance academic choices, and provide equitable opportunities.
The 17-year bond will be paid off in 2034. Interest rates are estimated at 3.5%, which are near historically low levels for the past 50 years. The state will pay 24% of the principal and in-terest of the bond issue. There
are two propositions:
Proposition 1 ($168.8 Million,
No Tax Increase):
Build storm shelters onto CES, RMES, SES, AMS, ACMS, and ACHS.
Build a new Meadowlark Ele-
mentary on a new site.
Build a new Andover High School on the same site & keep existing gyms.
Add additional preschool programming.
Upgrade district athletic facil-ities including middle school tracks & tennis, AHS stadium, locker room & park-ing, and enhance ACHS sta-dium to host home events.
Build a district tennis com-
plex.
Address district-wide neces-
sary facility improvements.
Renovate existing Meadow-lark building for District Of-fice, Support Services, and Andover eCademy.
Proposition 2 ($19.805 Million,
2.3 Mill Tax Increase):
Build a district pool to pro-vide a place for curriculum, swimming & diving teams.
Construct new career & pro-
fessional studies center.
Add artificial turf to varsity softball & baseball fields.
The tax increase on a $100,000 home for P2 would be $26.45 per year,
just over $2 per month.

Climate Survey Results
The Andover climate sur-vey is given annually to employees, parents and students. Aligning with the district goal of Culture & Climate to provide a posi-tive, safe environment to optimize student and staff success, the survey analyz-es the atmosphere of Ando-ver Public Schools. The in-formation from the survey guides the district’s con-stant improvement efforts.
With nearly 4,000 respons-
es, the district is pleased
with the participation from
staff, parents and students.
As various groups have
viewed the results, three
areas on the survey have
been identified as the top
priorities to stakeholders.
The areas of utmost im-
portance are Quality In-
struction, Safety and Feel-
ing Valued. These were de-
termined based on feed-
back from the Superinten-
dent’s Student Advisory
Team, district leadership
teams and administrators.
The survey shows 90 per-
cent of parents and sec-
ondary students are “very
satisfied” or “satisfied” with
the quality of instruction.
Regarding school safety, 89
percent of parents, second-
ary students and staff said
they are “very satisfied” or
“satisfied.” Finally, 79 per-
cent of parents, secondary
students and staff feel con-
nected to their school and
valued by the district.
Thank you to all parents
and students who took the
time to take the Climate
Survey! For building specif-
ic data, please click here to
go to the WES webpage.
Each year results are post-
ed on the website for re-
view.

Classroom Guid-
ance
Character trait of the month: Teamwork– Working with other people
to accomplish a goal. During classroom guidance, the students will
engage in various activities that will help them work on teamwork.
We talk about there not being many more difficult tasks in life than
getting a group of different-minded individuals to work as a team.
The students will engage in several team-building activities where
they will learn that in order to accomplish the goal, they will have to
compromise and be willing to problem solve in order to be a great
teammate.
Students and parents,
I can’t believe it’s March already! Where did the year go? Well, along with
March comes state testing. We will begin testing after spring break
starting with 5th grade science. Parents, please talk with your child(ren)
about not being stressed about testing, and instead, treat this like any
other test they would take. WES kids are prepared and have done
well in the past. Some tips are: encourage them to take their time,
I have no doubt our students will do well. GO WARRIORS!!
get a good nights rest, eat a good breakfast, and try their best.
