As we enter this Christmas season, our thoughts move to the one who this season is all about, Jesus our Savior and

Lord. What is profound about this season is not that a baby was born or even that the child was placed in a lowly manger. The amazing thing about Christmas is that God the Son came in hu-man flesh. He came to give his life so we could have life!

Jesus stated so plainly that he did not come to be served but to serve. Through his actions, he demonstrated that our purpose is not to strive for a position or power. Like Him, our greatest reason for being is to serve others. No passage demonstrates Jesus’ servant attitude more clearly than John 13. Years ago, I heard teaching by John Maxwell regarding this passage which revolutionized my understanding of this scripture. Let me share just a few thoughts of that teaching with you.

Right before describing Jesus picking up the towel and wash-ing the disciples’ feet, John shares three profound statements. These statements give the backdrop for what is going to occur in the passage.

“Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist…” (John 13:3-4, ESV).

From this passage, we see that Jesus was willing to serve and was not position-conscious for three reasons:1. Because he knew what he possessed

Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power.2. He knew who he was

“and that he had come from God” 3. He knew where he was going

“and was going back to God”

He knew what he possessed, he knew who he was, and he knew where he was going; he didn’t have to establish a posi-tion. It is a fact in life that the most secure people in life are not position conscious, they don’t need the title, they don’t need the office, they don’t need the place on the organizational chart, they really don’t need any of that because they know who they are. It is also true, the less secure you are in yourself, or in your relationship with people or in your relationship with God,... the less secure you are, the more that you will demand your rights, and the more that you will demand your position, and the more that you will demand whatever you think you have coming to you and what you really deserve. You cannot serve like Jesus with a demanding heart.

Jesus could serve because He was secure and confident in who He was. He was confident that He was fulfilling the Father’s perfect will. Just like Jesus, we were born to serve. But we will only be able to serve with pure motives, when we are secure and confident in our relationship with the Father through Jesus.

During this Christmas season, take time to thank God that He loved us enough that he sent his only begotten Son to give his life for us. Then, purpose to be like Jesus so that you too can say, “I have not come to be served but to serve.”

It is often said that Jesus was “born to die”. I don’t think we can totally disprove this or completely do away with this

statement, though I do believe that He was born to live as much or more than He was simply born to die. Without His living...His dying is a fragment. His dying becomes a piece to a some-what mystical, theological puzzle that doesn’t really have the edge pieces visibly in place.

As we go through the Christmas season, as believers, so much of our impetus is on Jesus being born. Rightly So !

*Obviously “The Reason For The Season”This being the truth, the reason, the greatest story ever told,

the gift, etc, etc, etc; We don’t really debate the “why” as much as the “how” and “when” at Christmas time.

I however would like to suggest a few “why’s” for your Christmas consideration.

Why was Jesus born ?1. To fulfill prophecy ?2. To bring in the New Covenant ?3. To astound people in the temple ?4. To gather a band of unique disciples ?5. To create a following among the masses ?6. To change water to wine ?7. To help people catch massive amounts of fish ?8. To cast out demons ?9. To heal lepers, the blind, Peter’s mother-in-law, the

centurion’s servant, the woman with the issue of blood, paralytics, the mute, the deaf, hands, ears, eyes, legs, children, the afflicted, diseases ?

10. To raise people from the dead ?11. To calm a storm ?12. To Feed thousands without much food ?13. To comfort people ?14. To cleanse the temple ?15. To make a tree wither ?16. To redeem thieves and deceivers ?17. To teach ?18. To confound and confuse ?19. To open the door for the Holy Spirit, as a unique person of

the trinity ?

20. To prepare the way for the Church ?21. To be denied ?22. To be betrayed ?23. To be Judged ?24. To be mocked ?25. To be satirically crowned “King of the Jews” ?26. To be beaten ?27. To be crucified ?28. To be pierced ?29. To be killed publicly ?30. To be buried ?31. To rise from the dead ?32. To restore His disciples ? 33. To ascend to Heaven ?

I love the celebration of Christmas. The season is one of excitement and great

hope. I have read that the early Christians decided to celebrate the birth of Christ on a day that was already a recognized holiday, December 25. Celebrating on this day would keep them from suspicion and dan-ger. The Romans called December 25 “The Birthday of the Unconquered Sun” because it was so close to December 21, the winter solstice. For Christians it became “The Birthday of the Unconquered Son.”

What a gift God gave us when He gave His Unconquered Son that first Christmas day.

Look with me as we open our gift from the Father and see four things given to us at Christmas.

1. The gift of Jesus gave us Light for a dark world.

Zacharias the father of John the Baptist tells us of the great gift of light that has come to people that were in darkness. Luke 1:78 “Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us;” 79 “To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.””

Simeon told that this light would bring revelation and glory so we could see who Jesus really is. Luke 2: 27 “So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law,” 28 “he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:” 29 “”Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word;” 30 “For my eyes have seen Your salvation” 31 “Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,” 32 “A light to bring revela-tion to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.””

Will you please open this wonderful gift of light? If you will receive this gift your life

will be changed for God promised to guide you by His light into the way of peace.

2. The gift of Jesus gave us a King to protect and provide for us.

The wise men sought for the king. Wise men still search for the King that can give us His protection and His provision. Matt 2:1-2

Mary was told about the never ending reign of this glorious King. Luke 1:31 “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.” 32 “He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.” 33 “And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Thank God we have a King whose Kingdom will never end!

Isaiah tells us about His glorious reign Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the govern-ment will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” 7 “Of the increase of His govern-ment and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”

Will you please open this wonderful gift of a loving King? He will not lord over you, but he will provide and protect you!

3. The gift of Jesus gave us a Redeemer to set us free.

Anna told of the redemption that would come because of the gift of the Father. Luke 2: 38 “And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.”

God gave the gift of a ransom to redeem us from the slavery of sin! Rev-elation 5:9 And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,

Will you please open the wonderful gift and accept His power to free your life from the slavery of sin?

4. The gift of Jesus gave us a Savior to save us from our sins!

The angel told Joseph you shall call his name Jesus for he will save his people from their sins. Mat 1: 21 “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.” 22 “So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:” 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

When you study the meaning of “save,” we see it means to deliver, or protect, to heal, preserve, to make whole. If we will accept this wonderful gift from God then Jesus will “save us from our sins.” This means that there are three things that Jesus will do for us concern-ing sin when He saves us. a. He delivers you from sins power. b. He heals you from sins effect on your life. c. He protects you from sins attacks.

Sherry and I pray that this Christmas season you enjoy family and friends, but most of all we want you to enjoy the gift of the Father “His Unconquered Son” Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Merry Christmas!

God’s Christmas Gift to Mankind

We who profess Christ as our Lord and Savior are called to be humble servants. Jesus’ instruction and example to his

followers is clear on this matter. For example, when the mother of Zebedee’s children desired that her two sons be granted to sit one on His right hand and one on His left in His Kingdom (the high seats), Jesus took the opportunity to teach servanthood and humility.

MATTHEW 20: 25-28: Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you, let him be your minister. And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant. Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Notice two key words in these verses: Minister and Servant. According to the Ryrie Study Bible the word minister means servant. The word servant means slave. These two words epitomize the person and character of Jesus. But what about us? In this context, are we ministers and servants?

This holiday season, let us examine ourselves. Let us examine our attitudes, and our actions. We are called to serve. Are we following the example of our Lord? We can! We can truly be ministers and servants to the Glory of the Lord.

To all my fellow servants, Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!

Please prayerfully consider inviting these missionaries to your church giving them opportunity to share their heart.

Philippians 2:5-7

5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:6 Who, being in very nature[a] God,     did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;7 rather, he made himself nothing     by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,     being made in human likeness.

To understand why pastors should receive a Form W-2 from his/her church, it helps to understand that pastors are considered

employees of the church, whether part-time or full-time, and to do that we look to common-law rules.

IRS Publication 15-A states,“Under common-law rules, any-one who performs services for you is generally your employee if you have the right to control what will be done and how it will be done. This is so even when you give the employee freedom of ac-tion. What matters is that you have the right to control the details of how the services are performed.”

Common-law rules are composed of three factors: behavioral control, financial control, and the relationship of the parties. Below is a brief explanation of each:

• Behavioral control: Does the church have the ability to dictate how and when the person performs his/her duties? If so, the individual is an employee.

• Financial control: Does the church control the business aspects of the person’s job? Is the individual able to seek other job opportunities? If the worker is not permitted to seek other job opportunities, then he/she is an employee of the church.

• Relationship of the parties: Does the individual provide du-ties/services that are vital to the church’s existence? If so, he/she is an employee.

But does it really matter if your church distributes the right tax form to its pastor(s)?

The short answer to this question is, yes, it does matter that the correct tax form is distributed to pastors. There are costly fines and penalties associated with distributing incorrect tax forms to

ministers that can be upwards of $100,000. (See IRC section 6723 and IRC section 7202.)

Additionally, classifying a pastor properly as an employee as opposed to a contract worker affects the filing of related tax forms churches are responsible for submitting as an employer (e.g., Form 941).

How to report a pastor’s income on Form W-2We know that pastors are considered employees of the church

according to common-law rules, but it doesn’t stop there. Pastors have what is known as a “dual-tax status.” In short, this means that pastors are employees for the purposes of federal income tax, and, at the same time, they are considered self-employed for Social Security tax purposes. OF course, Paul’s insight here gives us a more complete picture of Christ’s work on our behalf, but it is what Paul said just before this that causes this to take on a greater level of significance for you and me.

Philippians 2:5-8 (KJV)5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

IF Christ came to serve, and we are to have the same mind (mindset) as Christ…this essentially means that you and I have been reBORN to SERVE.

GOD is not asking you to redeem the world—that has already been done—but He is asking you to SERVE just like the one who did!

Merry Christmas to all!

CHRISTMAS is the glorious celebration of Christ’s arrival on the earth, and the gospels of Matthew and Luke masterfully share the story of how God became flesh.

Matthew 1:23 (ESV)“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).

OUR story is different because of THIS story! Because Christ set aside his deity and came to earth to become a man, the death sentence of sin was commuted by the God of all creation. Christ-mas made possible that which was impossible. Christ was born to serve mankind as the sacrifice (ransom) for our sins so that we could be free from its penalty—but more importantly, its grip of control.

Matthew 20:28 (ESV)“…even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

IN his letter to the church at Philippi, the Apos-tle Paul gave further detail about Christ’s service. Paul describes that Christ did not merely take on the ACTIVITY of a servant, but took the form…the nature…the DNA…of a servant.

GIRLS MINISTRIESDeshae [email protected]

The most wonderful time of the year is fast approaching and as we look at the familiar story of Christmas, my prayer

is to see something I didn’t see before. For example, consider Luke 2:11-12, “For today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Jesus was a baby, yet He was the Savior, all the giftings and potential that we would see displayed throughout His life was with Him in the small tiny package wrapped up in a manger. Jesus was born to serve as a pure spotless lamb to bring forgiveness and transformation to the hearts and lives of many. We only have one Savior, but your church and commu-nity are full of students who are full of giftings that can change the World. What are you doing to help girls see their God given potential?

On October 12, over 150 leaders and girls gathered to cel-ebrate who God has created them to be at Pure Girl 2019. High-lights from the day were four girls giving their hearts to Jesus,

one girl being baptized in the Holy Spirit and over $5,000 being brought in for Missions. We look forward to seeing all of you next October.

In addition, the 3D Lead team was launched consisting of five girls from within the District who feel led by the Lord to serve their church and peers. These girls are giving a year to discipleship and being used in the different Girls Ministries events throughout the District. God has placed treasures inside of girls, but oftentimes He places them in our path to help them discover, develop and deploy these giftings. Who is the student God has placed in your life, this Christmas season, that is full of world changing potential that just needs to be unwrapped?

♫♪ RUM PUM PUM PUM ♪♫As a child, one of my favorite Christmas TV programs was the story of the Little Drummer Boy. It was based upon the 1958 song by the same name. Many artists have recorded the tune with great success, but have you ever paused to consider the mean-ing of the song. I have to admit, that I have been more focused on the “rum pum, pum, pums” and totally missed the point.

Look at the words of the song without the “drum noise” and I think you’ll listen to it differently next time.

Come, they told me, a new born King to see.Our finest gifts we bring, to lay before the King

to honor Him, when we come.

Little Baby, I am a poor boy too.I have no gift to bring that’s fit to give the King,

Shall I play for you, on my drum?

Mary nodded. The ox and lamb kept time.I played my drum for Him. I played my best for Him.

Then He smiled at me. Me and my drum.

This song tells the story of a little boy who want-ed to give a gift to the newborn Savior, but had noth-ing but the ability to play a drum—so he did. He played to the best of his ability and made the baby Jesus smile.

Obviously, this is a fictional story, but one with a great mes-sage. You don’t have to have money or possessions to give a gift to God or to others. The best gift is the gift of your-self. When you give yourself—the best of yourself—to God and to others it will always bring a smile to the Lord’s face!

Make every MOMENT of this Christmas season count!

ROYAL RANGERSJerry [email protected]

The annual District Daniel Boone Frontiersman Camping Fellowship Fall Trace was held at the District Royal Ranger

Campground at Rocky Mount Missouri on September 20 – 22. Weather started out nice on Friday but it rained most of the day on Saturday. However the temperature was warm. NE Division FCF VP, Ted King, “Chocktaw”, was in charge of the Trace and did a great job organizing the event. Doug Laut , “Hoot”, spoke at the Friday night Council Fire Service and the “young Bucks” were “front and center” at the alter time.

Following are eight members who completed the Buck-skin level of advancement: Mark Jones, Dan Rockafellow,

Will Goble, Shawn Adonijah, Ryan Evarts, David Evarts Jr., Noah Kelley and Joshua Pennekamp.

During the Saturday morning business meeting, Frank Reed, the Daniel Boone Chapter president was elected for another term of three years of service. Money was pledged and raised in the amount of $1730.00 for Missions.

“To Give and to Serve will often have us having real Faith and standing for things that are tough but worth it. I know my Savior Jesus Christ my King is pleased with FCF and the Royal Ranger Ministry.”

SENIOR ADULT MINISTRIESJohn [email protected]

One old singer crooned about how we were “Born to lose”. A rock group sang about “Born to Be Wild.?,” But the Bible teaches

that every person was “Born to win!” No one was born by accident and God has a purpose and will for

every soul brought into the world. That purpose includes serving the Lord with all of our might. One of the differences between Genera-tions is that an older generation recognized the importance of serving whether it was in the community the church or going to war. The devil’s message in our current times is that we were born to be served by others and that we should be the center of attention. Interesting the middle letter in the word sin is I and the middle letter in the word pride is I. Jesus’ message was, he that would be the greatest let him be the servant of all.

The 50-plus generation has lots of opportunities and abilities to serve the church and the lost. Interesting that most televangelists message is not one of serving but one of getting and gaining in this world’s goods, but the way of service is the way to reach people or as an old song says, I’d rather see a sermon than hear one any day, ac-tions speak much louder than words can ever say.

Jesus came into the world to be a servant and we should follow in his steps.

Great things are in store for the 50-plus in 2020.
