Foreword
India’s Tourism sector, which contributed 6.7% of the GDP in 2013, is expected to grow over four-folds by 2025, creating a multiplier effect on job creation and economic development at the grassroots, thereby truly adding ‘Inclusiveness’ to Vibrant India. In his vision for ‘Brand India’, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has underlined Tourism and Tradition as key drivers of growth. In 2013, the sector added USD 18.13 Billion to foreign exchange earnings (FEE) and generated over 35.4 million jobs. However, despite its huge potential, India’s share of the world’s tourist arrivals is only 0.64%.
With 32 World Heritage Sites, 10 bio-geographic zones and unique geographical diversity, India offers a varied mix of cultural heritage, natural resources and biodiversity. With the tourism industry expected to grow at 7% per annum, as projected by WTTC , it is critical for India to capitalize on its diverse portfolio of niche tourism products such as Medical, Wellness, Sports, MICE, Rural and Religious tourism, spread across states.
Haryana, the ‘Abode of God’, is a tourist destination with diverse offerings such as archaeology, rich cultural heritage, religious sites as well as natural and wildlife attractions. The State has been taking several strategic steps towards leveraging its competitive advantage through key initiatives such as promotion of Highway Tourism through its 44 tourist complexes, introduction of ‘Haryana Travel Guide’, re-development & exploration of various ancient cultural sites (Indus Valley Civilization), expansion of air strips, amongst others.
However, isolated growth of the tourism sector has prevented it from growing as a significant economic activity. It is, therefore, critical to develop a progressive tourism policy which ensures balanced regional development, economic progress to the less developed regions and widespread diffusion of industries in the State.
As a proud partner to the Haryana Tourism for the Surajkund International Art & Craft Fair, 2015, I am pleased to present the YES BANK - Haryana Tourism publication ‘Tourism in Haryana: An Incredible Experience’ which highlights the Arts & Crafts, Fairs, Religious Tourism Sites, Nature & Wildlife, Adventure as well as Historical & Heritage attractions of Haryana. Through this endeavour we envisage to provide a competitive advantage to the diverse offerings of Haryana State and place it as the Preferred Tourist Destination of the Nation.
I am confident that the contents of the report will be a useful reference for all stakeholders and provide further impetus to the growth of tourism in Haryana.
Thank You.
Sincerely,
Rana Kapoor Managing Director & CEO
