Presidents ReportTwas a dark and stormy day. The predicted rain, hail andthunderstorms were omnipresent. How can we play golf inthese conditions? was the popular cry. But right on time, theclouds dissipated, the sun shone, the blue sky replaced thedark and gloomy overcast and the greens and fairways ofWoodlands Golf Club glistened.

Twenty six members and partners were rewarded with a mag-

nificent evening and teed off on time at 5.30 on Wednesday inexcellent conditions and joined a large group of Woodlandsmembers for their Christmas Nine and Dine. Following thegolf an additional six members joined all the golfers in themain dining room for a magnificent meal and the inevitablepresentations to the winners. Woodlands did a great job andreally got into the Christmas spirit, fancy dress, plenty of priz-es (for their members) and lots of laughs. A very enjoyabletime was had by all.

Woodlands also donated two bottles of wine for the winners ofthe RCOB group to go with the Calloway and Titleist golfballs. The top performers

Woodlands is the first eventin the RCOB Summer Cup.The trophies for the SummerCup winners will be thosewith the best aggregate scoreover four nine hole games.Yarra Yarra, Kingswood andVictoria are planned as thenext three venues.

Following the magnificentweather turned on for the golf, the next day was the coldestDecember day for seven years and thoughts immediatelyturned to the Concourse Festival. Would this rotten weatherpersist? Would all the work by Kerrie and her team bewashed away? Would it be the first claim on the Clubs insur-ance policy for a cancelled event?

But again, we were blessed with a magnificent Friday after-noon and Kerries hard work and organisational skills wereevident. From traffic management to car parking in the pri-mary school, selling tickets for rides, raffle tickets or jewellery,

queue management at the animal farm or Santa, itseemed that everywhere and anywhere around the Con-course there was an RCOB member or partner in abright yellow volunteer safety vest. It was an excellenteffort by Kerrie and her team and all the members andpartners who contributed.

Anecdotally, it appeared that more traders took ad-vantage of the festival and were more involved than inthe past and apparently there was only one complainingtrader. It was debatable whether there were more peo-ple this year however the bad weather of the previousday may have impacted on numbers. Those that werethere all seemed to have a great time and the kids cer-tainly enjoyed the wide variety of rides and activities.

The post event review will be important to identify wheth-er it is something we should be involved with in future,how to continuously improve it as a major event on ourcalendar if we do stay involved and where we can im-prove the return for both the traders and RCOB. Again,thank you Kerrie and all those that helped make it a suc-cess.

The Board were advised on Monday night that amend-ments requested by RCOB to the agreement withSandybeach were agreed to by the Sandybeach Boardand as a result the Club will be making a donation towardthe purchase of a new bus. Our donation entitles RCOBto:

have a logo displayed on the side of the bus

be acknowledged in the bi-annual Course andEvent guide which has a print run of 68,000 be represented in posters and information at the

Centre be acknowledged in their Annual Report and at

their Annual General Meeting

Sandybeach is a significant Community centre in our ar-ea and a long term relationship with them should providesubstantial benefits and opportunities to both parties.

We are back at VGC on Thursday for the first meeting forsome time. It is designated as a Club Forum focusing on

membership but it is also an opportunity for members toraise any other matters of interest or concern.
