Mental Health First Aid Workshop

Twenty-two participants attended the Mental HealthFirst Aid workshop hosted by our club lastweek. Presented by Cathy Hogan and IanGoodhardt, the workshop went very well with somevery positive feedback on the usefulness of theworkshop and the quality of the presenters and theirmaterial (see below). The feedback also indicatedthat all forms of publicity used by our club, (the roadsign, the newspaper articles, the direct emails andthe signs in local shops) contributed to getting a fullhouse. Two of the attendees, representing localcommunity organisations, were impressed enough tosuggest that they would like to join forces with ourclub to host another workshop. The club can be wellsatisfied with the outcome.

“Last week I was very fortunate to attend a twoday course on Mental First Aid. The course was or-ganised and supported by the Rotary Club of Beau-maris. I wanted to let the club know how much I ap-preciated the opportunity to be part of the courseand let the club know how worthwhile being involvedwith this area is. Jenny mentioned you are a member

of the club so I thought I would let you know how Ifelt about having the opportunity to attend. It bene-fits everyone and is a wonderful way of raisingawareness in the general community. Mental healthalong with other related areas still suffers from alack of community awareness and thus becomes sub-ject to misunderstanding and intolerance. This pro-gram is a wonderful way to promote understandingand tolerance.

I commend the club for its positive, practical promo-

tion in this area and encourage it to continue sup-porting such programs in the local community.

Thanks and cheers from Andrew Lamb”

Ice-Skater, Sweden

Photograph by PatrikStark,

We had been skatingaround in the thick fog in

the Stockholm archipela-go for a couple of hoursone morning in April. Itwas totally windless andthe only sounds werethose of our skates andsome birds in the openwater near us. Tour skat-ing on natural ice on thefirst of April is consid-ered late in the season,so this was our last trip.

Suddenly we saw it, thefogbow, and tried tocatch it.
