ResearchThe film I am going to do will be a comedy horror. In my film I expect blood or people dying as well as annoying characters that are either crazy, psycho or stupid to make the film funny.

So I need to research- •camera angles used in horror films, • type of music I should use,•Sound,•costumes/makeup •speech between characters to create an interesting atmosphere.

I should decide if I should include writing and a voice over in my opening.I should also look out for what makes people scared or jump such as blood or loud music or even gun shots and screaming.

Titles• Titles are very important for movies, especially for an opening.

In films the most important titles appear in the middle of the screen while less important titles appear on the right of left side of the screen.

• Here is an example from the opening to “Doomsday”.

Page 3: In Depth Research

• Some of them even have an logo included which makes the title stand out more from the rest of the movie.

• Again this is from the opening to “Doomsday”

Page 4: In Depth Research

• The title of the film is in the middle of the screen but also fills up the screen which tells that it is what the audience should be focused on while also getting their attention.

• The font used is bold Times New Roman which is a simple font which is easily readable and not too fancy/complicated.

Page 5: In Depth Research

• Here is an example of a less important title and where it is placed differently from the important titles.

• This is also used for the names of actors in the movie. The main actors name is usually in the middle of the screen while less appearing actors names are placed on the right or left side of the screen.

Page 6: In Depth Research

• By putting “and” before the actors name suggests that the actor is less important or does not appear as much as others within the film.

Camera Angles/shots• In the trailer “Seed Of Chucky” there are a lot of close ups and

tracking shots used to show the characters as well as to scare us.• The close ups seem to work well when a face is about to appear

or someone is about to wake up which makes it suddenly scary.• The camera also appears to fade in and out as well as starting off

from darkness and panning upwards to show the inside of a house at the start which may be good shots/angles to use in my 2 minute opening.

• In the trailer “Shaun of the Dead” the camera moves fast between certain shots which may be good to use in my film to keep up the atmosphere, interesting and also funny.

Page 8: In Depth Research

•Here is a screenshot showing how the camera has come up from a dark scene to show a house. This can create a scary atmosphere and also lets the audience know something interesting will happen or is building up to it.

Page 9: In Depth Research

• Here are two screenshots showing how someone can suddenly scare the audience with the turn of a head and waking up suddenly.

• This scene in the “Seed of Chucky” short trailer had quiet music which created a scary atmosphere.

Page 10: In Depth Research

Music• “Snakes on a Plane” trailer has low music within the start of

the trailer but as tension rises the music suddenly becomes loud which scares the audience.

• The music also appears to be slow, scary music which helps set the scene.

• Slow music may be a good idea for my film as well as make the music get louder as something interesting/scary will happen to help make my opening scary.

Sound• Within trailers, clips or the full movie of comedy horrors, the

sound mostly used which is not human is a door creaking or a smashed window which may become helpful to make my opening scary when possible.

• For the most used human sound is screaming or crying for mercy. Again I could use these sounds when possible when it comes to filming my opening.

Horror to Comedy• In most comedy horror’s I have watched, horror comes before

the comedy part. Maybe this is because turning something scary into something funny is easier then making something funny into something scary.

• In “Shaun of the Dead” it goes from Shaun being attacked by a zombie to a quick comedy scene of him getting his picture taken with the zombie by his best friend, which seems to work and make people laugh.

• Because of this I have decided to start off with darkness to create a horror scene and then go to comedy genre when it is needed.

• Here are screenshots showing how something scary as getting attacked can become funny in a matter of seconds or camera shots.

• Screenshot showing a zombie attacking/lashing out at Shaun’

• This shot Shaun’s friend has asked him to pose for a picture.

Character Relationships

• In most comedy horror films, the characters get along with most people until near the middle or end of the film where they are mad at each other or complain at each other because they don’t get along no more.

• Because of this I am going to let my characters get along with some of the other characters while some characters do not get along with each other or ignore one another to make the opening funny.

Page 15: In Depth Research

• In Twilight Bella does not get along with her father or talk to him much. You can tell this by the lack of communication with the opening but also how her head is faced away from her father and looking down.

• Looking at her facial expression is also a large hint to the relationship with her father.

ConclusionFinally with all the researched finished, I have decided to do this

for my film.

1. I will start off with a quick scene which includes many angles of someone running and being hunted down.

2. My characters will be introduced in order continuously starting off with the one that will scare the audience.

3. My characters will be introduced from horror to comedy like each time to show the audience that it is comedy horror and also to keep them interesting and know which type of characters there are.

4. The scene will be placed in/near woods where there are many shaded area’s to make a dark atmosphere.
