The performances will take place in the typical intimacy of the most beautiful squares of the Culture Village-Katara, precisely the courtyard just behind building number 5. Some of the finest representatives of the European jazz scene will capture the audience completely free of charge. A unique musical event, which fully embraces the vision and spirit of Culture Village-Katara, aiming to promote intercultural exchanges and reflecting the prerogatives of a city projected to the future. The 1st Katara European Jazz Festival took place from October 30th to November 1st 2014.

Katara European Jazz Festival is organized by seven European embassies (Austria, France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Switzerland). This event is only made possible with the very strong partnership of Culture Village-Katara, the Qatar Music Academy, Qatar Airways, named as the official airline of the event, and FNAC Qatar. The “Défense Conseil International (DCI)” in Paris is a partner of the French embassy and the Goethe-Institute Gulf Region in Abu Dhabi is a partner of the German embassy.

Dr. Al Sulaiti, CEO of Culture Village-Katara Foundation, said that the goal behind the Katara European Jazz Festival event is to cement this annual international jazz festival and make Doha a hub that serves a forum for international artistic exchange between European and Arabic music traditions.

The event held in Culture Village-Katara will consist of various evening events performed by Jazz musicians. Each embassy will bring to Doha one jazz group representing its country. For more information and for the schedule of concerts, please log on to www.katara.net.

This year’s event is even stronger as two more countries (Netherlands and Spain) are joining. These embassies joined forces to present to the Qatari audience some of the finest representatives of European Jazz music – a highly regarded form of art that has captured global audiences since the early 20th century.

Thanks to the support of the Qatar Music Academy, workshops are scheduled for the benefit of the QMA music students. The initiative encourages inspiration, promotes ideas sharing and develops new techniques in a most exciting multicultural environment. Jazz, punk and a quite unusual line-up with, at times, two drumsets, at times two guitars, and again, at times 2 tubes and keyboards – who comes up with this mélange? Matthias Schriefl, a kid from the German Allgäu area has amused international audiences with his crazy ideas before, and audiences have left his concerts with new inspiration. Schriefl´s many awards make him stand out and the bands he toured with show his attraction. He shares the stage with successful international jazz musicians and has collected newcomer awards and trophies for established artists as well, the West German Broadcaster´s (WDR) Jazz Award for Improvisation being the most recent decoration. “The width of his sound scope is extraordinary and his talent for improvisation is captivating, his arrangements are inventive” says WDR´s Reiner Brückner. Schriefl´s energy and his lust for new approaches are owed to his young age. “'No fear of simplicity, no fear of complexity” is his motto. His music feeds passion and humor and allows musical bursts – a pleasure for his band mates and for the audience the same.

“FALB FICTION... around the world“ is the third release of the exciting Austrian Jazz Formation FALB FICTION. In 2009 Viola Falb (Hans Koller Prize Winner 2008) left her hometown Vienna to live abroad for a while and get inspired from other cities and traditions. And FALB FICTION toured a lot in all kind of different countries... all those fascinating impressions of Bangkok, Berlin, Svalbard, Papua New Guinea, Kyrgyzstan, New York, ... influenced Viola Falb´s composing and playing a lot, which causes for the audience: a tour around the world.

MONK'N'ROLL - Francesco Bearzatti is one of the top musicians of Italian jazz. After tributes to Tina Modotti and Malcolm X, which were widely acclaimed by critics and public alike, in Italy and abroad, he now celebrates the musical genius of Thelonious Monk with a project of pure adrenaline, where all the energy and power of renown rock pieces (by Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, Michael Jackson, Police, Aerosmith...) intersect with those famous themes from the composer who passed away 30 years ago; one of the most extraordinary characters that jazz has ever known. Over recent years, Monk has been the subject of a careful re-evaluation by the critics, while the "new wave" of jazz, based primarily on improvisation, places him ideally as its reference point. Alongside Francesco Bearzatti, who plays saxophones, clarinet and live electronics on this record, is the highly-proven Tinissima 4et including Giovanni Falzone on trumpet and vocal effects, Danilo Gallo on double bass and electric bass, and Zeno De Rossi on drums and percussion.

"RED & BLACK LIGHT" is an ode to the woman of today and to the founding and fundamental role she plays in the hope of a better future. Women in my family have had an immeasurable influence on my overall musical work. They inspire me a lot, especially in their way of managing their daily life and that of their surroundings. Despite living in a labyrinth where life is complex and often dramatic, they hold power and stability such as some sort of invincible trance. They give me the impression of never losing sight of the essential.

Focused on a more current aesthetics and bringing more electro and even pop music, this album contains my compositions as well as a cover version of today’s diva Beyonce. These compositions are inspired by the famous Egyptian diva Oum Kalthoum and the musical mood of the album is actually a mix between the strong Arab influence of her voice, the strength of the electronic technology we are lucky to use in the 21st century and the freedom that jazz offers. Despite being particularly complex in the way it is written (as it includes polyrhythms of 19, 17 or 27 beats for instance), we (the three musicians surrounding me and myself) have arranged this music in a way that the heaviness of the writing would never be heard. So we have avoided the trap of elitism and scientific writing to elaborate a transparent and clear album, on which the public can dance and sing and which is yet full of a multitude of superposition of unsuspected themes, harmonies and rhythms which only a mathematic reading of the album can reveal. Recorded at Ivry sur Seine (France), with three extraordinary Belgium musicians, namely: the multi awarded Eric Legnin (keyboards), François Delporte (guitar) who plays with me since many years and the incredible drummer of the jazzband "Aka moon", Stephane Galland, this album is above all a desire of highlighting the importance and the necessary complexity of essential things and people". - Ibrahim Maalouf

SPAINBiel Ballester Trio

Biel Ballester was born in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, in 1974. He studied classical guitar at the prestigious Luthier School of Barcelona, with teachers Alex Garrobé and Fernando Rodriguez.

Biel’s impressive guitar technique, his very personal style -based on the Django Reinhardt manouche heritage, but incorporating the Mediterranean musical tradition-, as well as the beauty of his many original compositions, soon got him well established in the Spanish club and concert circuits. Subsequent demand for his awe-inspiring style enabled him to perform in other countries in Europe and the United States.

SWITZERLANDThe Albin Brun Alpin Ensemble

The Albin Brun Alpin Ensemble plays compositions of Albin Brun which are a unique blend of jazz, folk and improvisation. Beside the references to different musical cultures - inspired by Bruns tours and voyages - the closeness to his own alpine tradition is always an important benchmark.

He gathers established musicians, who bring broad experience from different contexts. Thus the band perform at prestigious jazz festivals as well as at folk music festivals and thereby show a great sensibility to draw their inspiration from the local folk music in a way which does not result in pseudo-jazz or a tribute to an idyllic rural world.

ومنــذ تخرجــه مــع مرتبــة الشــرف مــن المعهــد الموســيقي فــي عــام 1992 م، اســتطاع عــازف البيانــو الهولنــدي ميشــيل بورســتالب أن يفــرض نفســه علــى الســاحة الموســيقية الدوليــة، وقــد حصــل علــى جائــزة أفضــل عــازف منفــرد فــي أوروبــا فــي مســابقة لموســيقى الجــاز فــي بروكســل عــام 1992 م، وكان الموســيقار األوروبــي األول الــذي يفــوز بجائــزة الملحنيــن 1996 م . ومنــذ ذلــك الحيــن عمــل ميشــيل بورســتالب بشــكل وثيــق مــع فنانيــن مثــل هيربــي هانكــوك، بــات ميثنــي، جينــو فانيلــي، جيمــي هالســيب، بيــل بروفــورد، وكان آخرهــم مــع لودوفيكــو إينــودي، وقــد شــارك بورســتالب في مهرجانــات الجــاز الكبــرى فــي جميــع أنحــاء العالــم.و يشــار إلــى أنــه أصــدر أكثــر مــن 20 ألبومــا، وقــد أســس شــركته الخاصــة للتســجيل غراميسرســي

NETHERLANDSMichiel Borstlap

MichielBorstlap is widely considered as one of the finest pianists of Europe. He is member of the Royal Academy of Arts & Science, serving as think-tank for Dutch Government. Since graduating with honours at the conservatory in 1992, the Dutch pianist MichielBorstlap has made a mark on the international music scene. He won the Prize for Best Soloist at Europ' Jazz Contest in Brussels in 1992, and was the First European musician to winthe Thelonious Monk/BMI Composers Award (1996). Since then MichielBorstlap has worked closely together with artistslike Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Gino Vannelli, Jimmy Haslip, BillBrufordand most recently with Ludovico Einaudi. Borstlap has performed at major jazz festivals around the world.

His music has been praised by the New York Times as “crystalline piano playing” and the Washington Post lauds the “rich melody and tonal clarity of a Mozart Sonata in today’s music”. He released over 20 albums in various settings and line ups on labels like Universal/Verve and has founded his own record company Gramercy Park. His compositions have been played and recorded by stellar musicians like Herbie Hancock & Wayne Shorter, who still perform his “Memory of Enchantment” to this date.

Music:In 2007 he formed a duo with Gino Vannelli and played together around the world.His albums ELDORADO &SOLO 2010 appeared top 20 in the Dutch Album Top 100 Chart.Since 2010 Borstlap focusses his career mainly on solo piano concerts.In 2014 the album 'Frames' is the latest in a series of solo albums.In 2014 he also joins a new band lead by the Italian composer & pianist Ludovico Einaudi, “Le Piano Africain”.Most notably they performed in Milan for a staggering number of over 24.000 people.

تــؤدي فرقــة "ألبيــن بــرون ألبيــن" مزيجــا فريــدا مــن موســيقى الجــاز والموســيقى الشــعبية واالرتجــال، إلــى جانــب الثقافــات الموســيقية المختلفــة المســتوحاة مــن رحــالت وجــوالت برونــز والــذي عــرف بقربــه مــن تقاليــد جبــال األلــب التــي كانــت بمثابــة المقيــاس المرجعــي لــه.

وتجمع فرقة ألبين برون ألبن بين عدد من الموسيقيين ذوي خبرات واسعة حيث تحيي العديد من الحفالتفــي مهرجانــات الجــاز المرموقــة وكذلــك فــي مهرجانــات الموســيقى الشــعبية. وقــد أطلقــت ســنة 2010 ســي دي المجــاالت ALPINES "ســفار ألبيــن".

وتســعى مجموعــة ألبيــن لخــوض تجــارب موســيقية متنوعــة مســتوحاة مــن ثقافــات مختلفــة.

وفــي هــذا الســياق، أقامــت فرقــة ألبيــن مشــروعا تعاونــت فيــه مــع فرقــة ثالثــي األصــوات النســائية مــن روســيا البيضــاء تدعــى Akana "آكانــا" حيــث نتــج عنــه إنشــاء فرقــة مشــتركة KAZALPIN "كازاألبيــن" التــي قامــت بجــواالت مختلفــة و أصــدرت ســي دي بعنــوان قصــة الجانــب الشــرقي فــي عــام

2011 و ســي دي ثانــي بعنــوان Snezhki / SCHNEE "كــرة الثلــج" ســيصدر فــي خريــف 2015./.

ومهرجــان ) ســان جــودا، كولمــار ومارســياك( فرنســا ، ومهرجــان لنــدن وأدنبــرا( المملكــة المتحــدة ،ومهرجــان )Gouvy( بلجيــكا.

يقــول إبراهيــم معلــوف: إن ألبــوم "ريــد أنــد بــالك اليــت" )"الضــوء األحمــر واألســود"( قصيــدة إلــى المــرأة العصريــة وإهــداء إلــى دورهــا البنــاء فــي ــا علــى أعمالــي الموســيقية كافــة. إنهــن مصــدر وحــي كبيــر بالنســبة إلــي خاصــة تأســيس غــد أفضــل. فلقــد كان لنســاء عائلتــي وال يــزال تأثيــرا جممــن حيــث طريقتهــن فــي إدارة األمــور الحياتيــة اليوميــة الخاصــة بهــن أو بمحيطهــن. فبالرغــم مــن متاهــات الحيــاة وتعقيداتهــا التــي غالبــا مــا تكــون ــدا عــن ــدو لــي أنهــن ال يضيعــن أب ــوع مــن ســبات ال يمكــن اختراقــه. فيب ــع هــؤالء النســاء بقــوة واســتقرار ال يقهــرا وكأنهــن فــي ن مأســاوية، تتمت

ناظريهــن مــا هــو أساســي فــي الحيــاة.

يتمحــور هــذا األلبــوم حــول جماليــة أكثــر حداثــة تعتمــد بشــكل أكبــر علــى موســيقى اآلالت االلكترونية أو موســيقى البــوب، ويتضمــن األلبــوم مقطوعات مــن تأليفــي باإلضافــة إلــى إعــادة لموســيقى المغنيــة العصريــة الشــهيرة بيونســيه. ومــع أن الموســيقى معقــدة مــن حيــث كتابتهــا )فهــي تتضمــن إيقاعــات مــن 19 و17 و27 ضربــة علــى ســبيل المثــال(، إال أننــي تمكنــت، مــع الموســيقيين الثالثــة الذيــن عملــوا معــي، مــن جعــل الموســيقى سلســة لــدى ســماعها بحيــث ال يتــراءى للمســتمع مــدى صعوبــة كتابتهــا. لقــد تجنبنــا بذلــك توجيــه هــذا األلبــوم إلــى نخبــة معينــة مــن النــاس، كمــا تجنبنــا جعلــه ألبومــا ذي كتابــة علميــة، بــل قدمنــاه علــى أنــه موســيقى شــفافة وواضحــة، يمكــن للجمهــور أن يرقــص ويغنــي علــى أنغامهــا بالرغــم مــن

تدفــق األلحــان الرئيســة واألنغــام واإليقاعــات المتعــددة والممزوجــة بشــكل ال يمكــن كشــفه، مــا لــم تتــم دراســة الموســيقى بشــكل علمــي دقيــق.

أمــا التســجيل، فقــد تــم فــي منطقــة "إيفــري" الفرنســية مــع إيريــك لينيينــي علــى اآلالت ذات المفاتيــح وفرانســوا ديلبــورت علــى القيثــارة وســتيفان غــاالن علــى الطبــول. وقــد أردنــا مــن خــالل هــذا األلبــوم التعبيــر وبشــكل خــاص عــن أهميــة وضــرورة أن تكــون المســائل والشــخصيات األساســية معقدة".

يعــد فرانشيســكو بيارزاتــى، دون أدنــى شــك ،أحــد أفضــل موســيقيي الجــاز اإليطالييــن، وذلــك مــن خــالل مشــاريعه اإلبداعيــة الكثيــرة . وإثراإلشــادة ب " تينــا مودوتــي و مالكولــم اكــس "والمشــهود لهمــا علــى نطــاق واســع مــن قبــل النقــاد والجماهيــر فــي إيطاليــا وفــي الخــارج، يحتفــل فرانشيســكو بيارزاتــي اآلن بالعبقريــة الموســيقية للملحن"ثيلونيــوس مونــك " مــن خــالل مشــروع األدريناليــن النقــي، والــذي تتقاطــع فيــه معانــي الطاقــة والقــدرة مــن قطــع الــروك الموســيقية الشــهيرة ) مــنLed Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, Michael Jackson, Police,Aerosmith.. فــي وضــع مثالــي كمرجعيــة فنيــة.

"فالب فيكشن حول العالم" Falb Fiction هو اإلصدار الثالث لرائعة تشكيلة الجاز النمساوية.

ففــي عــام 2009 غــادرت Viola Falb )فيــوال فالــب ( الفائــزة بجائــزة هانــز كولــر ســنة 2008، مســقط رأســها فيينــا لتعيــش لبعــض الوقــت فــي الخــارج باحثــة عــن اإللهــام مــن مــدن و تقاليــد أخــرى. وقــد جالــت مجموعــة فالــب فيكشــن بلــدان عديــدة ومختلفــة منهــا البانكــوك وبرليــن وســفالبارد وبابــوا وغينيــا الجديــدة وقيرغيزســتان ونيويورك..وقــد تركــت هــذه الجولــة انطباعــات عديــدة عنــد فيــوال فالــب، ممــا جعلهــا تؤلــف العديــد مــن األغانــي وتعــزف

الكثيــر مــن الموســيقى ممــا قادهــا إلــى إصــدار "فالــب فيكشــن حــول العالــم".

وفــي الســنوات األخيــرة الماضيــة، امتــزج عــزف موســيقيو فالــب فيكشــن فــي وحــدة نابضــة ممــا خلــق مســاحة لالرتجــال المنفتــح. إذ أصبحــت األفــكار الجديــدة تؤخــذ علــى الفــور ويتــم تطويرهــا فــي الحــال حيــث يكــون العــزف المنفــرد مدعومــا باجتهــاد كبيــر ممــا ينتــج عــن إبــداع نوبــات مشــتركة مــن

الموســيقى الخالبــة.

تأسست مجموعة فالب فيكشن عام 2004، وصدرت لها أول أسطوانة "سي دي" في عام 2005 في استديوهات الجاز وركساتات" Werkstatt " ، وقد حظي هذا "السي دي" بشعبية كبيرة.

وفــي عــام 2006، فــازت فرقــة فالــب فيكشــن بجائــزة The European Jazz new comer "الوافــد األوروبــي الجديــد" فــي هراديــك كرالــوف بجمهورية Falb Fiction الشــيك. وبعــد عاميــن مــن هــذه البدايــة الناجحــة، التقــى الموســيقيون مــرة أخــرى لتســجيل "ســي دي" ثانــي فــي مــارس 2008 بعنــوانLost Control "فالــب فيكشــن لوســت كنتــرول" الــذي قــام بتأليفــه كمــا فــي الســابق عازفــة الساكســوفون الموهوبــة فيــوال فالــب التــي تســتخدم

تركيبــة متنوعــة وصعبــة فــي تأليفاتهــا الموســيقية، مــع المزيــد مــن الحريــة فــي اإلرتجــال ومــزج العديــد مــن األســاليب الموســيقية المختلفــة.

يقول رينر بروكنر:" مجال صوته أمر خارق للعادة وموهبته في االرتجال آسرة وما يقوله مبتكر ومبهر".وتعــود طاقــة شــريفل وشــغفه بالمناهــج الموســيقية الجديــدة إلــى صغــر ســنه، "الخــوف مــن البســاطة الخــوف مــن التعقيــد" هــذا شــعاره. موســيقاه

تغــذي العاطفــة والفكاهــة وتنفــذ بقــوة وحــرارة ، موســيقاه متعــة لزمالئــه فــي الفرقــة و لجمهــور المســتمعين.

يقــام المهرجــان فــي أروع األجــواء وأجمــل األماكــن بالحــي الثقافــي - كتــارا ، وتحديــدا فــي الســاحة الواقعــة خلــف مبنــى رقــم 5. وتهــدف كتــارا مــن إقامــة هــذا المهرجــان إلــى جعــل الدوحــة مركــزا ومنتــدى للتبــادل الثقافــي الفنــي الدولــي الــذي يمــزج بيــن تقاليــد الموســيقى العربيــة واألوروبيــة.

يتميــز حــدث هــذا العــام بانضمــام بلديــن آخريــن همــا )هولنــدا وإســبانيا(، حيــث ستشــاركان لتعــرض علــى الجمهــور القطــري بعــض مــن أفضــل ممثلــي موســيقى الجــاز األوروبــي.

وبفضــل دعــم أكاديميــة قطــر للموســيقى، ســتقام ورش عمــل لصالــح طــالب أكاديميــة قطــر للموســيقى، حيــث ستشــجع هــذه مبــادرة علــى اإللهــام وتبــادل األفــكار وتطويــر تقنيــات جديــدة فــي بيئــة متعــددة الثقافــات.
