About the Presenter……
Eveleen Ling (MEd; LRSM; LTCL; ATCL) is an
accomplished musician and a highly experienced
earlychildhoodeducator.Shelecturesandconducts
workshops and seminars in early childhood
education inmusic,singing,percussion,dancesand
music & movements at early childhood
organizations, locally and internationally. For
instance,sheconductstheSkillsTrainingCoursesat
the Kindergarten Association, Malaysia (Persatuan
Tadika Malaysia) as well as performs with the
Penang Philharmonic and Kuala Lumpur Symphony
Orchestra. Shewas on the curriculumpanel of the
CurriculumDevelopmentDivision(BPK),Ministryof
Education for formulating themusic section of the
Garis Panduan and was involvedwith BPK in the
training of trainers on the implementation of the
National Preschool Curriculum (NPC) and the
National Preschool Curriculum Standards (KSPK).
Her over-30 years of teaching experience in
preschools include teaching refugeechildren in the
UNHCR Myanmar Learning Centre, setting up
preschools in 25 remote villages in Sarawak and
providing Lab training to teachers in Sarawak,
Jakarta, Cambodia andMyanmar. Currently, she is
thePresidentoftheAssociationofProfessionalEarly
Childhood Educators, Malaysia, (MAPECE) and
ChairmanofPersatuanTadikaMalaysia(PTM).
SYNOPSIS OF THE WORKSHOP
Science teaches us that sound is vibration, and the
frequency of vibration is what makes different
sounds.Fromabasicsourceofsounds,rhythmsand
tempos, an infinite variety of musical expressions
and emotions can be produced. In this workshop,
participantscarryoutactivitiesandexperimentswith
materials of the environment to produce different
pitchesusingdifferentlevelsofwater,volumesofair,
lengthandsoforth.Theywillexperiencehowmusic
and sounds are produced based on the scientific
principles they have discovered in the activities
carried out. They will then create music with
differentmaterialsandmakeimprovisedinstruments
toproducepitches,soundeffects,tonecoloursThus,
inthisworkshop,participantsdiscoverSTEM,thatis,
science,technology,engineeringandmathematicsin
music.Itwillbeaclassroom,learningcentre,setting
where participants can implement in their own
classrooms.
