welcome letter UeDA BoAreD
On behalf of Prof. Adel A. El-Sayed and both DASG & UEDA Board I’d like to welcome each of you to the 13th Upper Egypt Diabetes Association Conference (UEDA), IDF member and the 6th Diabetes in Asia Study Group (DASG) bi-annual meeting. It’s an exciting time for diabetes care as the epidemic continues to grow nationally and internationally which necessitates motivated and responsive collaborative efforts from all whom are concerned. Diabetes is confronting a time of many changes and both DASG and UEDA are meeting these changes bringing inspired people together in Cairo, to ensure that our mission and vision remains at the cutting edge.I’d like to give you an idea of what you can expect and what we hope to achieve over this meeting. Utmost concern as usual is giving to young generations of health care providers who constitute the base of diabetes health care nationwide so a special pre-congress educational course will be arranged giving them basal knowledge and roadmap for better diabetes care using IDF modules.Six workshops discussing Life Style, Diabetic Foot, Obesity, Thyroid, Insulin and Polycystic Ovarian disease represent an important feature of our conference and will be led by experts in the field with young UEDA juniors to give them more experience and UEDA capacity building.A remarkable feature will be DASG-UEDA joint meeting in special session exploring and formulating a new collaborative design to improve diabetes care in all our members.Special consideration is given for NCDs where a joint meeting with WHO will be arranged to tailor a roadmap for collaboration and create new opportunities in low socio-economic situations.Top experts and eminent International, Regional and National speakers will share the event bringing their expertise to our conference as they have the vision, the knowledge, the wherewithal and the experience to help us pave our way into the future. You are cordially invited to attend this well- organized scientific meeting and to enjoy the magnificent history of Cairo and its beautiful March weather. Cairo offers wide variety of options to explore: great pyramids, wonderful monuments old and recent architecture, rich history, vibrant cultural life and great sightseeing opportunities.

is the capital and largest city of Egypt. The city’s metropolitan area is the largest in the Middle East and the Arab world, and the 15th-largest in the world, and is associated with ancient Egypt, as the famous Giza pyramid complex and the ancient city of Memphis are located in its geographical area. Located near the Nile Delta, modern Cairo was founded in 969 CE by the Fatimid dynasty, but the land composing the present-day city was the site of
ancient national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo has long been a center of the region’s political and cultural life, and is titled “the city of a thousand minarets” for its preponderance of Islamic architecture.Cairo has the oldest and largest film and music industries in the Arab world, as well as the world’s second-oldest institution of higher learning, Al-Azhar University. Many international media, businesses, and organizations have regional headquarters in the city; the Arab League has had its headquarters in Cairo for most of its existence. With a population of 6.76 million spread over 453 square kilometers (175 sq mi), Cairo is by far the largest city in Egypt. An additional 9.5 million inhabitants live in close proximity to the city. Cairo, like many other mega-cities, Cairo’s metro, one of two in Africa, ranks among the fifteen busiest in the world, with over 1 billion annual passenger rides. The economy of Cairo was ranked first in the Middle East in 2005, and 43rd globally on Foreign Policy’s 2010 Global Cities Index.
