And a happy dry, arid, Mojave, outer-space-like summer to all. What a way to start the mid-year! It has been Pray for

some time since we’ve seen drought conditions like this. The grass looks parched, and for the most part, it is.

At this point in time the grass has gone dormant to preserve what little life it has left. But a few days of rain

will re-awaken it and cause the return of noisy lawn mowing equipment. As far as the other flora is concerned,

it will be touch and go with the many recently planted shrubs. Pete and ground crew members are trying to

water these plants until measurable rainfall arrives. If there happens to be a shrub in your area that appears to

need a drink, please share some water with it or notify the office, we will send the water boy over to tend to its needs,

and as far as large plants and trees are concerned, little can be done to satisfy their need for a supply of moisture.

We are just now seeing the results of past droughts on our large mature oaks. Stop and take a look at the upper most

branches of any mature oak on the property and you will see die-back of about one foot of new growth. This is how

large trees deal with stress, they lessen the strain by removing growth to maintain what nutrients and root mass it has

remaining to survive. Experts say it takes up to seven years for larger trees to show the stress of past droughts. Once the

root mass is compromised, it never fully recovers. This is why the tree takes such extreme measure to save itself from

certain death.

F.Y.I. Crowfields maintenance department has available to concerned residents a multitude of theft deterrent devises

that we can install in your home. Please call the office to put in a request for an assessment and get advice on devises

that would work best for you. Please remember to always lock your doors, even if you are at home. A friend will always

knock before entering.

Until next time, have a safe and peaceful summer. Charles Bennett, Property Manager

Burgler Advisory & Helen Eill’s (Cluster E) story about it

A burgler has invaded some of us – slipping in and seeking money. Lock up and look out. Know & watch out for your

neighbors. The police are patrolling our area and with our help, this situation will be resolved & thief caught.

MISSING MONEY: Warning & Advisory story from Helen Eill, Cluster E

By now many people know that my unit was entered and money was taken---only money. There was no indication that anyone had been there any of the four times that it happened. I’d still be blaming myself for carelessness and exploring the side-effects of my medications if I had not surprised him one night. I have been careless, but not in the ways that I thought. I always lock my doors when I leave. I did not, however, put into place the rod that prevents my sliding door from sliding. The police assure me that with that in the track, or with a lock activated, no one could open that door. I did not lock my storm doors---ever. I do now. I also now forego the good mountain air, and open windows only when I am in the room and close them when I leave. In the park that is Crowfields, it’s easy to feel too secure and to forget that we are vulnerable. We all know what we can do to enhance our own security, when we think about it. I have learned some things. ● For instance, when you suspect that someone has been, or is in your house, don’t go looking for him. ● When he leaves his shoes on your carpet near the back door, take them and run out the front door. ● Call 911 & when the police come, you will have something to show them to prove that you really did see what you say you saw. ● Don’t leave your wallet or handbag near the front door. Indeed, ●don’t leave them in the same place all of the time. ● Move them around, and then remember where you hid them.

Most importantly, believe in your own abilities. Each one of us who has reported a theft, first assumed that we had misplaced that money. “Maybe I left my wallet in the car,” “Maybe I put it in the wrong place,” “Maybe I’m hallucinating.” That seemed to be more plausible than someone entering our homes without a trace. It can, and has happened, and may happen again to any of us! Be vigilant! Lock up!

A number of residents have signed on to join Nextdoor.com, the casual free neighborhood communication network. Nextdoor Crowfields should allow residents to communicate on missing pets – or people -, things to buy or sell, looking for services, and advisories on concerns like recent burgleries & bear sightings. To find out more, check out https://nextdoor.com/about us, and to sign up: http://nextdoor.com. You will find directions there. Do join up!
