The British LibraryThe British library is the national library of the United Kingdom and the largest library in theworld! It is located in London, on Euston Road, near St Pancras Station and opened in 1997.It was built by Colin St. John Wilson and happened to be biggest monument of the country in

the 20th century. To get to the main building, one must cross a large court where IsaacNewton’s statue can be contemplated. The heart of the library is a glass tower constituted ofthree floors, where the King’s Library is located; it consists of 65,000 volumes gathered by

King George III between 1763 and 1820.

It is a recent institution, founded in 1973 following the British Library Act. Before that, all thedocuments, archives and books were located in different places, such as Bloomsbury orChancery Lane in London, or in the Yorkshire region. Until 1973, the national library waspart of the British Museum. Now, most of the documents can be found in the magnificentbuilding on Euston Road.

It also contains many old and precious documents: we can find there, for example, twoGutenberg bibles, two 1215 copies of the Magna Carta, 347 pages of the Codex Sinaiticus, the first printed map of the New World, some manuscripts from Leonardo da Vinci, writtencompositions from Mozart, Bach, Mahler, or the only manuscript of the Beowulf poem. Wecan also find a compilation of all British and Irish newspapers from 1820. There are manyexhibitions happening in the library, due to its various and infinitely precious collection. It isopened to everyone and is very helpful for students, especially when looking for very specificinformation.Entrance to the building is free. Access to the reading rooms is also free of charge. However avalid reading pass is required, which you can get upon going through the registration process.

Saint Paul’s Cathedral

It’s an English Church located in Central London. The beginning of the constructionstarted in 604 with a man called Mellitus. In 962 and 1087 the cathedral burnt down andwas built again and enlarged every time. But, on the night of September 2 in 1666, theGreat Fire that began in a bakery destroyed much of London including St. Paul'sCathedral. Three years after this disaster, Christopher Wren took over the reconstructionof the church. Before today’s version of this cathedral there were four others but theyalso burnt down.

It has the second largest dome in the world. If you go inside, you will be able to see three different galleries:

- the Whispering Gallery which is very well known for its acoustics. If you are whispering near the wall, a person anywhere in the gallery can hear this whisper as he approaches his ear to this wall.

the Stone Gallery, which is located 53 meters outside the dome.

the Golden Gallery, which is located at the base of the lantern. You can have a beautiful view!

To get there, you can take a lot of public transport:

- the underground at the station called Saint Paul’s on the Central Line.

- the bus.

- walk and cross the Millennium Bridge.

There is an entrance fee for tourists but it’s free for the believers. Saint Paul's is a popular tourist attraction and is still used as a church today.

This historical monument was built in 1066 by William the Conqueror. It has been used as a jail and an execution place but now it's a museum and it still stores the incredible British monarch's Crown Jewels. Once inside, you can visit the White Tower and see its impressive collection of Royal Armouries and Weapons, or enter the Bloody Tower reputed to be where the « Princes in the Tower » were murdered by an unknown hand in around 1483.

This tower is also frightening because it is known to be haunted by the ghosts, if you want to see one of them you must visit it!

Our opinion…This monument is amazing! Its architecture is fabulous, it takes us back in the medieval time thanks to the decorations and the towers! Furthermore, we can have a breathtaking view on Tower Bridge. The Tower of London teaches us more about British culture and monarchy thanks to the explanations which are easy to understand and there is also a paper chase for the kids. The price is a bit expensive (29.50 £) but this wonderful monument is worth being visited. To avoid the crowds, it is better to visit it early in the morning. Moreover, you should take your time to enjoy visiting all the sites. And when you get hungry, you can eat hot dishes and sandwiches in the New Armouries Café located in the Tower.

Emirates StadiumThe Emirates Stadium is the new football stadium of London.

The stadium is located in the north of London, in Highbury, District of Islington.

It is open since 2006, now more than 60,000 people can attend to a match in thestadium. The previous one was too old and too small, not all the supporters could get aseat for all the matches; and even more important was the safety issue. After twotragedies in the 80s, a big fire and a huge hooliganism fight, the government asked fora new stadium.

The team that Londoners support is Arsenal, a famous team of the Premier Leaguechampionship, called “Gunners”by supporters and commentator. It was created inLondon in 1886. The club won:

13 Premier League English titles

13 England Cups

2 Capital One Leagues

15 Community Shields

CamdenCamden Town is a weird and wonderful part of London. Located north ofCentral London, just 1 stop away from Euston train station or the Camden TownStation, it’s a right of way to visit the crazy shop fronts, check out CamdenMarket for some food and other wonders, and perhaps see thecanal lock open up.

Camden is known as the more punky part of London. Punkexploded in Camden in July 1976 at the Round House, which isstill a popular music venue today. Prior to the 1970’s, Camden was anabandoned part of North London, it was home to a lot of drunks and disused railgood yards from 100 years. It is a lot grungier than other parts of London andyou can still feel its punk effects, even if they are pretty commercialised thesedays.

You can head to Camden to experience its incredible range of food stalls or justchill by the canal and have a few drinks in the many pubs and bars whilelistening to some punk music.

Camden Market is definitely one of the most famous “attractions” in Camden; itis known the world over, especially for its fresh food stalls, vintage clothes, music shops, handmade jewellery and everything in between. It is a must whenyou go to Camden.Camden High Street is the main road through Camden; this is where the cooland well-known shop fronts are.

Finally the thing you will notice almost immediately is the artistic expressioncovering everything there, from the walls to the shops to the clothes and the people.

Greenwich (Part 1) Greenwich is a very exciting place in London, notable for its maritime history and forgiving its name to the Greenwich Meridian (0° longitude). In Greenwich you can findvery incredible places like the Royal Observatory which is located on a hill in GreenPark. If you want to learn more about the stories of the stars and the planets, youshould go there. The Royal Observatory played a major role in the history ofastronomy and navigation because of the meridian’s location. This Observatory wasestablished in 1675 for King Charles II and the building was completed in the summerof 1676 by Sir Christopher Wren. This place is now more a museum then anobservatory.

After the Royal Observatory you can see the Queen’s house. This place is one of themost important buildings in British architectural history, being the first consciouslyclassical building to have been constructed in the country. The Queen’s House wasbuilt in 1613 to 1615 by Inigo Jones for Queen Anne of Denmark, King James I’swife; it’s a very beautiful place with a gigantic garden. It’s so incredible to see wherethe Queen used to live.

Greenwich (Part 2)

If you want to go to Greenwich you will have to visit some places which I’ve lovedvisiting like the Maritime Museum. I am also fond of walking in Greenwich Park so ifyou’d like to go for a walk...

Greenwich Park is set on the side of the River Thames and is a great mix of greenspace, gardens and historical features. You can climb up the hill for a panoramic viewacross London.

Also, I advise you to visit the National Maritime Museum which is full of epic storiesof explorations. The museum is also the largest museum of its kind in the world.
