DESCRIPTION

In 1980, artist Tom Phillips completed A Humument, a treated version of the Victorian novel A Human Document, by WH Mallock. In response to this and during a workshop with Fermynwoods Contemporary Art, students from the Complementary Education Academy’s William Knibb Campus were encouraged to dissect popular children’s novels in the same manner as Phillips. Taking pages from books including Louis Sachar’s Holes, Robert Swindells’ Stone Cold and Spike Milligan’s Book of Milliganimals, this collection of new images quite out of context to the original literature provides a visual handbook to the imagination of the students involved.
