Gov. Gen. David Johnston announced Prince William and his bride-to-be had accepted an invitationto take a royal tour of Canada Wednesday.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper said the couple’sdecision to come to Canada for their rst o cialpost-wedding trip is a testament to the country’sclose relationship with the royal family.

“Canada looks forward to welcoming the young

couple this summer and providing them with all thatour country has to o er,” Harper said. “It is my sincerehope that their tour will be the start of a lastingrelationship with Canada by the royal couple.”

As QMI Agency rst reported Tuesday, the royalcouple will arrive in Ottawa on June 30 and depart fromCalgary on July 8.

Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach said Albertans werelooking forward to welcoming the Royal Couple toour province in July.

“It is a great honour to share the splendour of our province and the hospitality that Albertans areknown for,” Stelmach said in a release.

Heritage Minister James Moore said heexpected Quebecers to be polite and respectfultowards the royal couple.

“I’m con dent that Canadian hospitality extends from coast to coast,” he said.

e couple plans to celebrate July 1 in Ottawa, just as William's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II,did last year, Moore con rmed.

“ ey will be here on Parliament Hill forCanada Day and I think it will be a great kick o totheir visit to Canada,” he sa id.

Moore would not say how much money wasbudgeted for the visit but said Canada would absorbthe costs as the royal couple were guests of Canada.

“Obviously, we have a responsibility as a govern-ment to make sure that things are done in a way thatis responsible with taxpayers money and everybody,I mean everybody, recognizes that, and it will bedone with existing allocation of funds and willrequire no new taxpayers money,” Moore said.

William and Kate are to be married on April 29 inLondon.
