PRIETA POST 5

Welcome to 2016! Let’s hope this year brings us closer to our goals and dreams. I’ll never forget buying my first Porsche, a 1979 911SC Targa. I just loved how responsive it was. I remember saying that it would take a long time before my driving would catch up with the car’s capabilities. And I was right. I don’t think I ever did explore the full capabilities of the car.

It was a great car and one of the best things about it was it led me to join LPR. The people are great and the activities we offer are quite extensive for a group our size. Be sure to visit the website and check the Calendar of events to start planning for the new year. A couple of highlights are the Crow’s Nest Tour, always a favorite, on January 23. In February we have our first tech session at Elephant Racing and Soup Night at the Raddings’. Check the calendar for details.

We are hoping to work with The Racers Group, in Petaluma, to host a tech session and/or a wine tasting at Adobe Road winery, owned by Kevin Buckler. The Racers Group is currently involved with Aston Martin for 2016 Endurance racing, but they are also campaigning Porsches, in fact, one of their Porsches won the

overall championship in 2015 in the Platinum Series. This is a new opportunity that is just developing with several regions here in Zone 7 so we look forward to firming up the plans this month. Keep a look out for new events on the calendar and advertisements in the POST as plans develop.

I’d like to alert you to the fact that our

own Sandy Provasi is now the Zone 7 Representative, and as such is our liason to the PCA board. She is very interested in promoting more inter-regional activities, so look forward to more shared events this coming year. One event that has been revived by Sacramento Valley Region is the CRAB weekend event in May. Maybe we can pull together a tour to get there and back together.

As new members enroll in our region we need to invite them to come to events that interest them, so we are looking to offer an even broader list of events. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you have ideas that we can discuss.Thank you to all the Board Members and Committee Chairpersons who’ve devoted so much time to making LPR what it is.

Looking forward to an exciting and enjoyable 2016, Bob Morgan

Editor’s Letter Bill Jump, [email protected]

Bill’s Blurb

It’s New Years’ day as I write this. It is great to see another year! I am musing what to scribe as I have Baileys on the

rocks at my side, have watched the Rose Parade and now it’s bowl game time, and a time to reflect a bit. I am thinking how great it would be to put time in a bottle. I can’t do that but I but I have tried to capture a bit of “LPR time” on the front cover. We have great folk and many opportunities to engage beyond attending: hosting GTG or Tours, Charity, AX, Leadership, volunteering at the Zone 7 level, Werks, or Rennsport, and providing pics and content for the Post, etc. The message is par.tic.i.pate! Thanks to all that do par.tic.i.pate!

My objective re the January Post was to be done before Christmas. I like to start assembling content on the 11th as the deadline for input has long been the 10th (like a 55 mph speed limit). Well, the morning of the 11th my laptop failed. After several days of research, it was determined that it was not repairable and I was about 10 days past the 5 year window that HP would repair or provide service parts. So after more research a new machine was ordered for 1 day delivery. It shipped on time but it became

a 4 day delivery. Then it was time to transfer data from my two very fast HDD to the new machine and get software loaded (still working on that). Now it’s into a learning curve on Windows 10- just not the same as Win 7. So I was able to start after Christmas. That’s life in the fast lane. Life was simpler in the old days. Fortunately, January is a skinny issue.

Last month I opined about the Paris attacks and hoped US leadership would wake up about homeland risks. Well I got my answer later in the day I released the December Post- San Bernardino was in the news. The candles in the picture below were placed as a remembrance for the 32 children who lost a parent that day. They will be scarred the rest of their life. AMERICA!.. It’s our country- lets protect it.

Congrats to Kevin Bennett, Gary Goelkel, Dale Achabal, and Les Schrieber on their 10 year and longer anniversaries.. Have a great 2016 and engage this year. Enjoy this Post and don’t forget to renew your Post Subscription this month.

The Night of Wines and Cheeses

When we arrived we were greeted by Greg, Sue, and Greg’s college friend, Roy, who was visiting on a business trip. There were a few other beings in the house, two Pit Bull puppies that Greg and Sue are fostering until they are adopted, along with their 3 dogs, Gia, Charlie and Oliver, all rescues with their own stories.

Emilie and Bill Highley, Jim and Jennifer Bryant, and Christina Vincent were there when we arrived, soon joined by Vince Vincent, Ken and June Iles, Kevin and Debbie Bennett, and Bill and Mary Beth Jump. Rudi and Joanna Herz arrived soon thereafter as did Bonnie and Lisa Radding with friend Michael.

Everyone brought a bottle of wine and some cheese, or fruit or both with which to cleanse our pallettes between tasting 9 different red wines. We had a blind tasting, we covered each wine bottle so no one knew which was which, and then tasted all the wines and used stickers to vote for our favorites.

It was a lot of fun to see that the winners were not necessarily the most expensive or the most famous of the wines being tasted.

Thanks to Greg and Sue for opening their home and welcoming us like family.

This is not another garage shop tour. Elephant is an engineering and technology company specializing in Porsche suspensions. They

will use a couple stripped-down Porsches to show how the suspension parts fit and what they do. We might also get a demo of their shock absorber dyno and their custom shock manufacturing. Ever see a 3d printer? Elephant uses one for modeling new parts.

Check out their web site and then join us for the tech session.

$2 per attendee. Coffee and donuts will be provided.

I’m a snitch by Ima

Ima Snitch Returns, or, Run for your Life! Hello dearies. It’s me again after 18 months off for good behavior. Even though denied writing materials I’ve still been able to maintain my reliable hot source for information, and I don’t mean the hot sauce I get at Taco Bell. At least I was able to smuggle in my Stoli into my regular knitting wool parcels. That deputy warden was such a sweetie pie. All it took was a personal arrangement. A very personal arrangement, he’s still singing, “Prisoner of Love.” By the way sweeties, I have been asked to publish a photo of myself. I don’t want any more pics since even spackle doesn’t take care of my wrinkles. Let’s just say that those who do know me say I look very much like my favorite cartoon character, Maxine. Look it up on Google but not after eating breakfast.

So where do we start our Loma Prieta Region gossip? Well, rumor had it that the Bennett’s dog, Farley, follows Kevin around everywhere due to sheer adoration of his master. Turns out that the poor little doggie’s vision was impaired due to all that hair over its eyes, and so it relies on a role reversal with Kevin being the dog’s seeing eye. And talking of doggie stories, can you believe June Iles ate some of Farley’s dog treats at the Bennett’s Porsche Pizza Party? She thought it was table munchies along with the peanuts. Said it tasted pretty good though. Ken also gave this a try and said it tasted better then Toad in a Hole. These Brits can be a hoot. Oh yes, one more Porsche pooch news snip. Latest addition to the Mitchell family is Maggie, a fair sex brown haired cover girl creature shown lying languidly on the cover of the September Post. The Highleys have added a dog, Bandit, to their family and the Morgans new puppy, Chico, rounds out the current crop of little canines. Okay, tell me the club hasn’t gone to the dogs?

Sign seen at recent German Car Concours: “Achtung ! Unlezz du ist naaked, do not lean on das auto. Verboten ist beltz unt buckles vich kan scratzxh der paint. Exzeption: Ticket booth blonde frauline mit der grossen Jagermeisters. Ja, ist O.K. She kan lean all day.”

I heard that the Dummkopf Award is back in circulation, John Reed as the greatest numerical recipient of this dubious award having it once again in his possession. Something to do with him driving through a pile of leaves with a hidden brick in them. Who is next John, remember it’s your duty to pass it on...and indeed, I’m told he did. Bob Morgan is now the new keeper of the coveted award. I understand he did a number on the LPR barbeque after the Swapmeet and it wasn’t pretty. Way to go, Bob!

Ask Kathy Musser about the ant hill and her cat. Bet she won’t tell you anything, and probably will say she

doesn’t know what you are talking about. But Ima knows all ! Ask Johnny about sitting on the ant hill, pity the poor ants!

Vacations and cruises are supposed to be good tonics for you, yes? So how come, Bob Morgan, Debbie Bennett, Ken Iles, Kevin Bennett, Joanna and Rudi Herz all came down with some ailment immediately on return from a recent vacation ? Could this be Cruiseites? Or withdrawals from the buffet?

Another rumor going around says that Anne Roth’s autocross brownies will knock at least 20 seconds off your best time. Well dearies, even if that’s not true, you don’t care, but you’ll sport a happy grin. The brownies have reported medicinal properties, brings new meaning to taking the high road! And what’s this I heard about a real live brown bear invading Dave and Lisa Darling’s Tiki BBQ party? True story, but bears in Sunnyvale? Luckily it was after most people had left. Oops, the latest: That was actually a bare LPR member who was barely noticed. Peter Ridgway, where were you the night of this event?

Canuks Jimmy and Jenny Bryant have finally returned from their lengthy sabbatical. When asked if they would do it again Jimmy replied, “In a heartbeat”. He felt the best of the trip was Ethiopia, but he missed his Canadian bacon. Jen Says that Jim is her favorite slab of bacon anywhere. I hear Karen Tefankjian has been saving some of those hot sauce packets from Taco Bell, you know, the ones that have flirty messages printed on them like, “You know you want to”, or, “what time do you get off - and how”? No explanation on what she has in mind. Ed was overheard to say, “What hot sauce?” Also overheard, Hal Hallock griping about a T.V. commercial we’ve all probably seen, You know, the one with a couple in two separate side-by-side bathtubs while holding hands. All alone and out on a beach yet. Hal wants to know what the heck the Madison Ave. advertising boys were thinking? And what the situation has anything to do with anything? Hal whispered that he tried this stunt but got a cramp in his leg and muscle spasms in his back. Oh, to be 25 again.

That’s all for now sweeties. I must get on with knitting my wedding dress. Who knows, I may find Mr. Right one of these days and I need to be prepared. But I’m getting a bit tired of all these K1, P1, K2 Tog. instructions. After all this trouble Mr. Wrong is looking pretty good. Keep doing what you’re doing and I’m sure I will see it all, then tell it all the way I see it. In the mean time, my dog, Grey Goose and I are off for a walk around the couch. Ciao 4 Now. Ima.

Happy New Year to all,

I wanted to introduce myself as the new Zone 7 Rep. I will be taking over for Paul Czopek who has moved to Arizona. The Zone 7 banquet for 2015 will be held on Feb. 27th, 2016, at Dave & Buster’s in Milpitas. All are welcome to join us for a fun evening of awards and a bit of non-driving competition. Please note, the Zone Website will be undergoing some updating over the next few months. I hope this will make it easier for all to find info on

Zone events. With the new year comes the Zone Autocross School to be held on March 26th and 27th, 2016 at Marina. Also mark your calendars now for Sacramento Valley Region’s CRAB weekend May 13th -15th, 2016. This will be a multi event weekend with something for everyone from Concours, Rally, Autocross and of course, a crab feed. Hope to see you at an event soon.
