Summer Respite 2014
There are so many women behind the
scenes working to make every
Respite Program memorable. We are
filled with gratitude for their efforts.
Did you know that for about the past 15
years, each Respite Program ends with
a “raffle” in which everyone wins?
That means a door prize for everyone.
And the beautiful
prizes are
donated each
time by Joan
Malone, Prue
Kirsch, Lynn
Rice and
Kathleen Devine.
They put together
lovely gift
baskets, typically
filled with luxurious toiletries, and
tied with a bow. Plus lots of other
goodies, all brand new, such as jewelry,
bed linens, towels, candle holders,
vases, music boxes, scarves and
mittens, cookware, and on and on.
Besides the re-
laxing weekend,
the Respite
women get to
take home a
gift, chosen
with love, like
the grand-
mothers on the
left, above, below, and those on the
front page.
Joan, Prue, Lynn and Kathleen have
exceeded a
thousand door
prizes by now. We
are humbled; they
are wonderful.
There is not a gift
basket large
enough to contain
our thanks for all
those years.

March: a Respite
for Adult
Caregivers If you know someone who is
caring for an adult such as a
parent or spouse or adult child,
then surely you know how
difficult their challenges are,
physically, mentally and
emotionally.
On Saturday, March 7, 2015,
the Women’s Respite Program
will provide a day-long retreat
for these women at the Center
of Renewal.
Help us spread the word. Tell
your friends, family and co-
workers. Mention it to doctors,
nurses, social workers, and
teachers.
We are still working on the
details, and are drawing on our
experience with a day for adult
caregivers in January 2013.

The Women’s Respite Program has operated for 26 years
providing all our services for free. We ask for a $10 donation
from the women who attend. Some can donate; others
cannot. It doesn’t matter. And the reason we are able to
afford such generosity is the kindness of contributors,
year after year.
This summer, so many people were feeling generous.
We received contributions and grants from individuals
and organizations. Here’s a partial list.
Cabana Sam’s Restaurant
The Delaware Women’s Golf Club
The Hill Foundation of Canada awarded a grant to
benefit Marie’s Boutique
The Many Faces of Mercy Giving Circle awarded a
grant to defray costs of the 2015 Respite for Women
with Cancer
The Poverello Fund
The Providence Fund awarded a grant that allows us
to have two part-time staff people, plus helps with
programming.
Sisters of St. Francis Office of Advancement
The Zonta Club of Buffalo
The Zonta Club of Cheektowaga
and West Seneca
Lots of individuals, like you
We don’t know how to thank you except to keep going with
enthusiasm and love. We’re looking forward to 2015—
seeing old friends and welcoming new ones. Your
contributions enable us to provide the respite so many
women desperately need. We thank you.

Try to sit down and share a meal with your family at least once a week. At the table, everyone should turn off their phones. Don’t even bring them to the table. During your meal, take turns talking to each other about your day. It will prob-ably be easier with younger children. It may take practice, but you may all come to enjoy the ritual.

The massage helped physically.”

“How refreshing to know there are others that care. I was just amazed at the beauty and the love of everybody—reaching out to others in such a loving, caring way.”
“I’m a grandmother raising my grand-children. It’s been a long journey, but with God’s grace I’ve been able to endure the challenges. During this jour-ney, the Women’s Respite Program has been the biggest blessing because coming here I get to renew my spirit . . .”
“I’m 25 and I have a 7-year-old boy who holds the key to my heart. I’m a hardworking woman of God. This program has refreshed and brought a sense of light and new friendships to my life.”
