IBM IMS Advanced ACBGenerator for OS/390®

IMS™ Advanced ACB GeneratorVersion 1 combines a number offeatures and functions to help youmanage your IMS Access ControlBlock (ACB) libraries more effectively.It also provides a high-speed genera-tion process, which becomes moreimportant when processing largevolumes of IMS ACBs.

IMS Advanced ACB Generator is afunctional replacement for theACBGEN utility provided with IMS. Itreports information in a tabular formatrather than the prose format used by

the IMS utility. This tool allows you tocheck results quickly from yourdesktop, and helps ensure that allProgram Specification Blocks (PSBs)and Database Directories (DBDs) youexpected to process were indeedprocessed. The consolidation of largeamounts of output into a few pagesthat are easy to read and check,combined with other high-speedprocessing characteristics of IMSAdvanced ACB Generator, can bringa significant increase in productivityto your operation. The more PSBs andDBDs that are generated, the greaterthe time reduction that is realized.

IBM IMS Library ManagementUtilities for OS/390IMS Library Management Utilities (LMU)Version 1 help manage IMS ACB, PSB,and DBD libraries. The utilities includedare:

• DBD/PSB/ACB Compare — reports thedifferences between DBDs, PSBs, orACBs having the same name, butresiding in separate libraries. It can beused to ensure that DBDs, PSBs, or ACBsthat have the same name are defined bythe same generation macro statements.

• DBD/PSB/ACB Mapper — producespictorial layouts of IMS physical andlogical databases. These maps, whichare produced as a printed listing,graphically represent the structure andcharacteristics of IMS.

• DBD/PSB/ACB Reversal — converts theDBD/PSB control blocks back into IMSDBDGEN/PSBGEN utility control state-ments. This utility can also produce theneeded SYSIN statements for the DBD/PSB/ACB Mapper. A number of reportsare also generated describing memberinformation such as DBD/PSB organiza-tion, processing options, and the relation-ship among its members.

IBM IMS Sequential RandomizerGenerator for OS/390IMS Sequential Randomizer GeneratorVersion 1 creates a randomizer thatenables you to access HDAM and DEDBdatabase segments either directly orsequentially. Using this technique, HDAMand DEDB databases can be accessed inlogical key sequence without sacrificingtheir efficient direct access capabilities.

IMS Sequential Randomizer Generatoralso optimizes the distribution ofdatabase records by adjusting therandomizing module if the number ofsynonyms or the control interval (CI)/block utilization exceeds the user-specified value. This tool can help youmake better, more effective use of yourHDAM and DEDB databases.

System RequirementsIMS Advanced ACB Generator, IMSLibrary Management Utilities, and IMSSequential Randomizer Generatorsupport IMS Versions 5, 6 and 7. SMP/EVersion 1 is required for installation. Thesetools also run under z/OS®.

IMS Advanced ACB Generator replacesFast ACBGEN. IMS Sequential Random-izer Generator replaces SequentialDirect Access Method (DAM) Optimizer(SDO). Fast ACBGEN, SDO, and LMUwere features of the IMS Database Tools(DBT) product.
