THE PASTORAL PRAYER AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead, I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Eternal and merciful God, out of an abundance of love you created all the earth. Through your grace you fashioned us in your very image. Your works in our lives are mighty and marvelous. Yet sin blinds us to the fullness of your glory in our lives. We worry and we stress. We make it all about us. We forget to bless you and give you thanks. We often do not think of you as we make our plans for the future. Help us to remember at all times we are disciples of Jesus. You alone are Lord of our lives. You judge us mercifully and you shower us with grace. We give you thanks. Amen.

THE ANTHEM O Come, Let Us Sing to the Lord! Louis Harris

O come, let us sing to the Lord, let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving and make a joyful noise with the psalms. For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In His hands are the deep, deep places of the earth; the strength of the hills is also His. The sea is His and He made it, and His hands formed the dry land. (Psalm 95:1-6)

Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7

WATCH SUNDAY’S WORSHIP ONLINE!

Thanks to the ingenuity and dedication of Bob Wells, Derek Mathews, and all our sound and IT volunteers, you can now watch Sunday’s service on our website if you missed it. It’s not the same as being here, but it is the next best thing. Services are typically one week delayed, and there is an archive. Enjoy this gift from our wonderful volunteers.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

VBS registration is now closed and we have over 80 children planning to attend! VBS is June 13-17, 9 a.m.– 12 p.m. and we still need several volunteers to be group leaders and Bible storytellers. VBS families will also have the opportunity to participate in a school supply drive for the children supported by Intown Collaborative Ministries. Each day of VBS we will have a collection box in the narthex for children to donate backpacks, lunch boxes, wide ruled/college ruled lined paper, crayons (16pk), pencils, colored pencils, glue sticks, and folders. All are welcome to participate in this school supply drive!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Habitat for Humanity offers plenty of community service opportunities. Please let Ben Hammett Walkuski know if you’re interested or would like more information: [email protected].

MPP SUMMER CAMP The preschool offers camp on a week-by-week basis for five weeks this summer. Details about camps and registration forms can be found on the preschool pages at www.morningsidepc.org. Those who have completed the Toddler, Twos, Threes and PreK years are welcome. There are a few openings for most age groups each week. If you are in town for the Memorial Day week, there are a few remaining completed threes and PreK openings for camp. The theme this week is “It’s all about music.” Contact Director Melinda Sandkam at [email protected] for details on availability.

WANT A VERY PART TIME JOB IN JUNE? The Preschool seeks to augment its substitute list and still needs a toddler assistant here or there. Must be 18 years old and have some experience with young children. Could be as many as nine days in June or even three days in a week. Please contact Melinda for the specific needs.

NEW PIANO

We are thrilled to have a new grand piano in the fellowship hall. Chris Hawkins has graciously donated his Lester piano to the church. Through the generous donations of this congregation, the money was raised to buy a piano in honor of former Organist/Choirmaster, Walter Huff was instead used to rebuild the Lester piano. These funds were used to rebuild the piano. It is a fitting way for this church to celebrate Walter’s 25 years of music leadership and to provide a lovely piano for the fellowship hall. We extend our grateful thanks to Chris and Philip Hawkins, and to all those who contributed to the Huff Piano Fund.

THIS WEEK AT MORNINGSIDE

CHOIR CONCERT

Come and experience a music concert presented by The Chancel Choir and soloist Sunday, June 5 at 4 p.m. Mozart’s “Missa Brevis in F Major,” K. 192 was written when Mozart was only 18 years old. It is a smaller setting of the mass text but clearly shows Mozart’s genius as a composer. This work will feature the choir with 18 year old Kirby Burgess as soprano soloist; Nan Nowell, alto; John Young, tenor; Brandon Odom, baritone; Mason Copeland organist; and the Atlanta Strings. The concert will also feature our four soloists (Megan Mashburn, Nan Nowell, John Young, Brandon Odom) singing the Brahms “Liebeslieder Waltzes,” op.52 with Jonathan Crutchfield and Ben Leaptrott providing 4-hand piano accompaniment. The concert is free! A collection will be taken to benefit music at Morningside. Please invite your friends and family to join you.
