• WehavebeendeliveringCITTrainingtoofficersinaregionalacademyformatsince2006. Roughguess,average40officersperyearfor10years,some400officers.
• NewRochellePoliceDepartmenthastrainedalloftheirCriticalIncidentUnitofficersaswellasthosepatrolofficersthatmightbecalledtosupporttheirCIU.
• WehaveacollaborativeinitiativewiththeCityofWhitePlainswithamentalhealthprofessionalembeddedintotheirDepartment. WecallitthePoliceMentalHealthOutreachTeam. Itisaco-responsemodelsimilartotheLAPD’sCaseAssessmentManagementProgram. Theyalsohaveover30%oftheirofficersCITtrained.
• WehaveamirrorcollaborativeinitiativewiththeCityofYonkersPoliceDepartmentinthe4thPrecinct. Co-responsemodelwithoneCountystaffmemberembeddedintothe4th.
• ThosearethepoliceagenciesthatIknowhavedonesomethingsubstantial. Myguessisthatinsomeoftheotherpolicedepartmentslike,Scarsdaleforexample,isaPoliceOfficerwhohastakenthetrainingtobecometheirCITofficer.
• WehaverunclassesinOrange,Putnam,Dutchess andUlsterandBronxcounties. WehadaclassrecentlyinthePoliceAcademyofWestchester.

• Wearebuildingtrustingrelationshipsbetweenuniformedpoliceandourcommunity,basedonthetruththatallpeoplearesubjecttoPostTraumaticStressDisorder-comingfroman“equalpeople-differentroles”perspectiveisnotthenormforpeopleinpowerandweworktoreducepowerdifferentialstoexposethehumanityandcompromiseinsituationswhentheycanberelievedbysuch
• …Thenthereisbetweenobesityanddiabetes,2/3ofpeoplewhostrugglewithsubstanceabusereportbeingabusedaschildren.
• ThatmeansthattheWaronDrugsisaWaronTraumatizedpeoplewhojustneedhelp----#endthedrugwar
• WhentheCentralMassRLCdiscoveredthat95%ofitsparticipantsdeclaresometraumaintheirlivesorchildhoods,wedecidedtoexposethistruthagainstallsupport.Therapists,doctors,etcwarnedusnottotalkabouttrauma,yet,wefindthattalkingabouttraumareducesnotonlysymptomsorbehaviors,itcreatesalevelofresilience!!!!
• Weworktogetherwithourlawenforcementtoreduceharmtoourcommunitymembersbypromotinganatmosphereofself-awarenessandself-careallwhilecreatinginclusivecommunities.
• Whensomethingoccursinourarea,thepolice,becauseofourongoingcommunicationandneighborhoodvisibility,respondinamoretraumasensitivewayleadingthepersontohelpratherthantofurthertraumaticexposure.
• ThesimplefactsarethattheCrisisInterventionTeamofficersapproachinplainclothes,nobadgesorweaponsexposedandtheypulltheirvehicletoaproperparkingspaceratherthantodrawattentiontoamarkedpolicecarandstigmatizeourcenterorfrightenourmembers.
• WelookforwardtocontinuingourworkwiththeCITPrograminallcountiesandarecurrentlyexpandingtoSouthbridge,Mass
• Itisalsoourexperiencetoask“WhatHappenedtoYou?”ratherthan“What’sWrongwithyou?”
• Itisthehumanconnectionthatfacilitatesthemostpositiveoutcomeandtheunderstandingoftheimpactoflanguage--
