What is Pointillism?

Pointillism started in France as a protest. Occasionally called “Optical Realism”. The artist wanted to show how light on a painting effected the color of the work. It is painting created by small dots of pure colors that become blended in the viewers eye.

Who invented Pointillism?

It was developed by Georges Seurat in 1886. Seurat was born on December 2, 1859 in Paris, France. In 1875, he began to take drawing lessons form Justin Lequien. He married Madeleine Knoblock. He died of a throat infection.
