Light yellow-green. The Wieden reminds of fresh

hee, green apple and a hint of lime. The medium

youthful wine is dry with a playful acidity. White

pepper and pointed herbs on the palate, as well as

green apple. Spicy finish.

Mid yellow-green. The nose shows floral notes,

brioche and red apple, as well as tabacco notes. This

spicy, dry wine shows hints of honey melon, white

pepper and herbs on the palate. Structured and

dark fruits, dark chocolate and oak is replayed on the

medium to full-bodied palate; the tannins that

accompany the fruit are substantial, but ripe and

balanced.

Grassy green hints play with faint tropical notes of

passion fruit. The palate is taut and fresh and

provides that wonderfully phenolic backdrop that

makes Grüner such a success at the table. There is

concentration and ample stores of fruit underneath

that cool exterior, waiting to be plunged into.

Cellarhand

The 2015 Loibner Riesling Federspiel is lovely

aromatic and ripe on the elegant and very

distinguished nose (as if it were a Muskateller).

Medium-bodied, round and piquant this is an

expressive, salty and stimulating Riesling that's just

perfect to drink today. With 12.5% alcohol, this wine

is on the upper level of the light Federspiel category.

A beauty that would be a cash cow in any restaurant

that offers it by the glass.

Although the nose is restrained, fresh, ripe notions of

Mirabelle and yellow apple can be made out. The

palate is bright and poised, shot through with lemon

zestiness and lip-smacking freshness. Dry, toned

and slender, it's packed with bright, citrusy fruit.

Rosé 2016 Cellarhand

This dusty, savoury Austrian expression of the

Blaufränkisch variety smells of red cherries and

flowers backed by cranberry and marzipan. It’s long

and smooth, with juicy, almost sour-edged,

raspberry and red cherry fruit punctuated by

refreshingly bright acids and underscored by a fine,

dusty extract.

Pittnauer “Pitti”

Blaufränkisch/Zweigelt 2015 Cellarhand

Intense kind of wine but geez it feels good to drink.

It’s heady in dark fruit, prune, cinnamon, cola and

anise scents. The palate is a punchy wash of dark

fruits, kirsch, faint herbs. It’s juicy but has pops of

bright acidity through it, making it feel a touch wild,

but also, supremely refreshing as a red.

A funky yeasty richness still lingers on this very

young wine, the palate, however, shows all the

promise of a concentrated yet refreshing wine: there

is ripe, juicy pear flesh at the core, framed by zesty

lime that swings with the peppery freshness of

arugula and watercress.

Cellarhand

Golden colour and plenty of polish to go with it.

Apples and pears dusted with spice, saltwater,

grilled nuts, fresh apricot. Medium bodied, peppery

texture and taste, and also quite flinty, with a range

of fruit flavours, though to a large extent, it’s not

really fruity at all. It’s briny and delicious, with a long

dry and dusty finish.

Nose shows attractive layers of rose petals and ripe

strawberries with a gravely edge. Beautiful savoury

palate; complex but lightweight with chewy tannins

rarely seen in other varietals.

Peaty, meaty, pepper and spice, but with a core of

juice bramble fruit. It’s medium bodied with spiced

sour cherry flavour, fine but silty tannin, and a lively

finish that closes with a sweet orange tang and dried
