General Information and Sale Notes

Location:

The sale will be held at Worcester Livestock Market, Nunnery Way, Worcester. WR4 0SQ

M5, Junction 6 – take the A4538 signposted Evesham, approx.. ½ mile you arrive at a

roundabout, turn right, signposted Hospital A&E and city centre. Follow road going over motorway and you will see the market on the left. When you get to the next roundabout turn left and the market entrance is 300 metres on the left.

From Herefordshire – A44/A4103 to A4440 ring road, turn right going round Worcester

following signs towards M5, when arriving at roundabout at top of hill, take left turn now following signs to Hospital A&E, still on the A4440 ring road. At the next roundabout turn

right onto Swinesherd Way, follow dual carriageway, straight over first roundabout. You will notice the market on the right hand side, proceed right round the second roundabout, coming back on yourself, the entrance to the market is approx.. 300 metres on your left.

Conditions of Sale:

The sale is held subject to the LAA Conditions of Sale in addition to the Auctioneers

conditions of Sale.

Method of Sale:

All Pedigree cattle will be sold in guineas (105p).

Settlement and Clearance of Stock:

Settlement in full is due immediately at close of the sale. No animal may leave the premises

without an official ‘pass’, obtainable from the Auctioneers upon settlement.

Pedigree Transfers:

A transfer fee of £15 + VAT will be paid by both the Vendor and Purchaser before pedigrees

can be transferred.

Accommodation:

There are a number of very good Hotels and Bed & Breakfasts in the Worcester area. The

Auctioneers would be pleased to provide a list on request.

YAVERLAND HERD REDUCTION

FOREWORD

The Yaverland herd is returning to Worcester for the second production sale there. Following last year’s sale, we were very pleased with the excellent spread of our lines to other breeders.

This year saw a Yaverland animal being placed in the show ring on the mainland Yaverland Nancy was at the National show this year thanks to one of our best supporters. We have been pleased to see our animals re-registered to new breeders too, by buyers from last year moving them on to new homes. A big thankyou goes to everyone who has worked hard to continue our lines and make new ones

We are still running the same two stud bulls. Aston Jethro our first sire was selected for us by Peter Close. He brings great traditional features. He was widely shown by his previous owner and has several County and National placements. He is ably supported by Fishwick Pascal who introduces the fine beefy features. The gene pool of these two together produces some great looking calves

All animals have been running with a bull since the 1st

of September and are sold as running unless the catalogue states that they have been PD tested which is the case with those that ran with Pascal in the spring.

Healthwise all is well. We have just had a clear herd test on 20th

September for TB and are in a four year ward. We tag and test all our calves and vaccinate all breeding animals for BVD. We cover our heifers prior to their first breeding for IBR with a marker vaccination. All animals are up to date with worming treatment. We enjoyed a trouble free calving this season with no support needed and have had no mortality in cows or calves. We are Red Tractor assured. Management is low input as last year and the herd runs on conservation grassland. We have recently decided to introduce some concentrate for our younger animals to support them because of the very dry season and all animals have been given additional minerals this year. The herd is looking well and in fit condition for breeding. Last winter they were fed on hay ad-lib and calves were given a small allowance of concentrate. We have weaned one or two older calves particularly off the first time calvers a month prior to sale to enable some selective feeding of calves and to allow the mothers to get the best benefit from the grass that is now growing well after being droughted out for so long. There will be some separate sales so look out in the catalogue as in the majority of cases the calf from this season is in the market as well as its mother.
