About RAM Fiberglass, Inc.

Thank you for considering RAM Fiberglass, Inc. for your fiberglass piping requirements. We hope you find our catalog to be one of the most complete in the industry.

Since 1973, RAM Fiberglass, Inc. has supplied fiberglass pipe and fittings to the petroleum, chemical process, power, marine and municipal markets. Our standard product line of pipe and fittings is manufactured using a premium grade of vinyl ester resin pigmented dark gray which will handle most service environments to 200°F. We offer a premium grade high temperature vinyl ester resin system for services to 250°F. We also offer a complete line of epoxy fittings. Please consult RAM Fiberglass, Inc. for the resin system which best suits your service environment.

RAM Fiberglass, Inc. pipe fittings are manufactured in sizes ½” to 36” at our facility in Chino, California. Standard products are offered with a 40 mil corrosion resistant inner liner. This 0.040-inch inner liner will provide good chemical resistance and mild abrasion resistance in most applications. Our products are also available with a highly corrosion resistant 110 mil “SPI” liner in accordance with National Bureau of Standards (NBS) “Voluntary Product Standard PS 15-69”. For highly abrasive services we offer all internal corrosion resistant liners with an abrasion resistant (ABR) additive. All products are finished with a UV inhibitor and wax coat in the exterior layer.

Several joining systems are offered to facilitate pipe and fitting assembly. Standard joining systems for pipe and fittings ½-inch to 12-inch diameter are adhesive bonded bell and spigot, flanged or plain-end for butt-and-wrap joining. Joining systems for pipe sizes greater than 12-inch are plain-end for butt-and-wrap joining or flanged. Threaded pipe fittings and adapters are also available in sizes to 8-inch. Choosing the right joining system can save valuable field labor dollars. Please consult RAM Fi-berglass, Inc. for assistance in selecting the right joining technique for your project.

The products offered in this catalog are designed for an internal operating pressure of 150 psi unless noted otherwise. Our recommended maximum test pressure on a piping system is 1 ½ times the actual operating pressure of the piping system using water as the test media.

In addition to manufacturing, RAM Fiberglass, Inc. offers complete shop prefabrication services, field repairs and installation of fiberglass pipe and pipe fittings. If we can be of service in these areas please contact us for a quotation.

For the assembly of two flanges not shown in Table 2, the hex head bolt length may be calculated by adding the total of the thickness of the two flanges being joined plus the gasket thickness, plus 2 times (2X) the washer thick-ness plus the thickness of the nut plus the length of three threads. Refer to the RAM Fiberglass Product Catalog for thickness of all RAM Fiberglass flanges.

3.0 PRIOR TO JOINING FLANGES• Check all flanges for seal ring damage especially those inside the bolt circle. Flanges with damaged inner seal rings should be replaced.• Check gaskets for damage. 4.0 FLANGE ASSEMBLY

Assemble the flanges being joined using a washer under all bolt heads and nuts. All bolt threads must be lubricated to obtain proper torque results. Finger tighten all nuts and check for proper alignment of flange faces.

Misalignment of flange faces will cause bending stresses at the flange and flange joint and damage may result. Correct any misalignment prior to applying torque.

5.0 APPLYING TORQUE

Torque must be applied to all nuts in increments and sequence as shown in Table 3. Proceed through the tightening sequence applying torque in increments shown in Table 3 until the recommended torque is attained. Recheck the torque on each bolt in the same sequence as bolts previously tightened may have relaxed during the torque sequence.

6.0 SEALING AGAINST RAISED FACE STEEL FLANGES, VALVES ANDOTHER FLANGES

Ram Fiberglass filament-wound 150 lb. flanges can be bolted to raised face steel flanges provided bolt torque is applied in increments and sequence as indicated in Table 3. A full face gasket should be used, see 1.0. To prevent damage, flanges rated less than 150 lb. require the use of a spacer ring to fill the annular space created by the raised surface between the filament-wound flange face and the flange or valve face.

Valves are often supplied with elastomeric sealing surfaces built into the body of the valve. Due to the wide variety of sealing surfaces and faces on valves RAM Fiberglass recommends a full face gasket (see 1.0) at all valve connections.

ELASTIC AND STRENGTH PROPERTIES OF GLASS FILAMENT REINFORCED PIPE WALL

PIPE:RAM Fiberglass, Inc. epoxy pipe is filament-wound using continuous filament glass roving impregnated with epoxy resin and contains a nominal 0.050” thick reinforced liner in pipe sizes to 12”. Epoxy pipe is designed for a constant working pressure of 150 psi and is available in pipe sizes of ½” to 12” diameter. Pipe and pipe fittings have a maximum service temperature of 250°F in most applications.

FITTINGS AND FLANGES:A complete line of socket, threaded and flanged pipe fittings and flanges is available in all pipe sizes. Flanges are drilled and faced to ANSI B 16.5, 150 lb. standards.

APPENDIX FSPECIFICATION FOR FILAMENT-WOUND

REINFORCED FIBERGLASS PIPE

SCOPE

This specification covers manufacturing, fabricating, furnishing, delivering & testing filament- wound, glass fiber reinforced thermosetting epoxy vinyl ester resin pipe designated RTRP 12E (Type 1, Grade 2, Class E, epoxy vinyl ester resin liner reinforced) in accordance with ASTM D-2996.

PIPEAll sizes

Pipe shall be filament-wound, glass fiber reinforced, thermosetting epoxy vinyl ester resin pipe RTRP 12E (Type 1, Grade 2, Class E, epoxy vinyl ester resin liner reinforced) per ASTM D-2996. Pipe shall be supplied in sections of maximum length.

Pipe shall be machine made and consist of the following laminate element layers, resin impregnated, and bonded integrally to form a monolithic pipe wall:

a.) A epoxy vinyl ester resin base internal corrosion resistant and abrasion resistant liner consisting of C-veil or synthetic veil with a nominal thickness of 40 mils.

b.) A structural wall of epoxy vinyl ester resin impregnated and bonded continuous Type E glass fiber filament strands machine would helically.

c.) A resin rich external surface containing an ultraviolet inhibitor.

Total pipe wall thickness shall be designed to withstand the internal and, if applicable, external design pres-sures and temperatures. Total pipe wall thickness shall be subject to approval by the Engineer.

JOINTSAll sizes Pipe and Fittings

Style and design shall be approved by the engineer.

Standard joining for pipe sizes 1/2-inch through 12-inch shall be adhesive bonded bell & spigot. Standard joining for pipe sizes 14-inch through 24-inch shall be adhesive bonded bell & spigot or plain-end for butt and wrap. Standard joining for pipe sizes 30-inch and larger shall be plain-endfor butt-and-wrap or bell and spigot with single, or double, o-ring.

The cutting of pipe, the dressing of cut pipe ends, the preparation of joining surfaces andthe bonding and laminating techniques shall be per the instruction of the pipe and fittingmanufacturer.



Specialized equipment, tools, adhesives, curing equipment and information such as flange bolt torques and assembly instructions shall be supplied or approved by the pipe and fitting manufacturer.

FLANGESAll Sizes

Flanges shall be filament-wound construction manufactured from the same materials as the pipe. Flanges shall be socket type for adhesive bonding and shall have raised sealing surfaces integral to the flange face.

Flanges, except for thickness, shall have the same number, position and size of bolt holes, and flange out-side diameter as ANSI B16.5, 150 lb. Compression molded flanges or flanges of other construction shall not be permitted.

FITTINGSAll Sizes

Fittings shall be filament-wound construction with internal corrosion resistant 40 mil. liner manufactured from the same materials as the pipe. Fittings shall also have a U.V. inhibitor.

Fittings shall be supplied with sockets for adhesive bonded bell and spigot joining, flanged, or plain-end for butt-and-wrap joining, depending on fitting size (see JOINTS).

Inside diameter of fittings shall match inside diameter of connecting pipe. Elbows shall be smooth radius with no miter cuts/welds unless approved by Engineer.

BOLTS

ANSI B18.2.1, 1972 Regular Hex Head Bolts - material per project requirements.

NUTS

ANSI B18.2.2, 1972 Regular Hex Nuts - material per project requirements.

WASHERS

ANSI B27.2, 1965 Type A Plain, Narrow Series (same as SAE Standard) - material per project requirements.

NOTE: Use washers under all bolt heads and nuts.

GASKETS

Full face, 1/8-inch thick material suitable for application with a Shore A durometer of 60 +/- 5.

RECEIVING

Inspect shipping cradles, padding, hold down straps and any other protection for displacement or failure.



Inspect for evidence of pipe movement, either axial or lateral, during shipment. Inspect pipe exterior and interior for shipping damage.

Record and report any observation of shipping damage to carrier’s agent immediately and request in-spection report. Note any damage on carrier’s freight bill before carrier leaves.

HANDLING

Use handling equipment sufficiently strong to handle the load. Pipe weights per foot can be found in the RAM Fiberglass, Inc. product catalog.

Lift pipe using canvas or nylon belts of adequate strength. Belts must be 4-inch minimum width.

Straight continuous lengths (40-foot maximum) of pipe are to be lifted at two points spaced 10 feet apart at center of pipe.

Prefabricated pipe assemblies generally require two point lifting. Please consult RAM Fiberglass, Inc.

STORING

All pipe shall be placed on flat and level ground and supported by a minimum of three 4-inch wide sup-ports (4X4’s) equally spaced along pipe lengths.

Pipe to 16-inch diameter may be stacked four high. Do not nest smaller pipe into larger pipe when stacking. Do not stack pipe 18-inch and larger.

Store all pipe in a way that will avoid point loading from rock, nails, etc.

Fittings should be left in their shipping boxes until ready for use.

Store all adhesives in a cool dry place until ready for use.

TESTING

Field testing of the pipe system is best and most safely accomplished using a non-compressible fluid such as water.

Testing with air or any gas is not recommended.

Provide vents for air and vapor removal at all high points in the pipe system.

Test the system hydrostatically at 1-1/2 times the operating pressure of the system for a period of four hours.

2. All orders are subject to approval and acceptance by RAM Fiberglass, Inc. An order requiring immediate attention or airfreight shipment may be charged an expediting fee which will be quoted at time of order acceptance.

3. All prices are consumer net and are subject to change without notice. Prices are based on standard domestic packaging. Unless otherwise agreed, the invoice price will be those in effect at time of shipment.

4. Invoices are due and payable 30 days from day of shipment. Any account over 45 days will be placed on credit hold and will be subject to interest charges at the maximum rate allowed by law. In the event Buyer delays shipment beyond the date on which RAM Fiberglass, Inc. could have shipped the goods, Buyer shall make full payment therefore within thirty (30) days of such date.

5. If the Buyer fails to fulfill the terms of payment of any order between the Buyer and RAM Fiberglass, Inc., RAM Fiber-glass, Inc. may defer further shipments until such payments are made or may cancel any or all orders unshipped. RAM Fiberglass, Inc. will be entitled to collect all expenses incurred in collecting delinquent accounts, including attorney’s fees.

6. All sales are final. Certain unused standard fittings may be returned for credit against future orders with prior written approval from RAM Fiberglass, Inc. Products authorized for return will be shipped freight prepaid at Buyers expense and will be subject to 25% restocking charge. Fittings noted “NO RETURNS ALLOWED”, piping assemblies and specialty items “made-to-order”, or manufactured from non-standard resin systems are not returnable.

7. RAM Fiberglass, Inc. warrants the products to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of shipment. RAM’s sole obligation and Buyers exclusive remedy in connection with the products shall be limited, at RAM’s option, to either repair or replace the product or products not conforming to this warranty, F.O.B. Factory. Any claims must be made in writing within the warranty period. This warranty is the sole warranty covering the products and RAM Fiberglass, Inc. makes no other warranty of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, and all implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose are hereby disclaimed by RAM Fiberglass, Inc. and excluded from this warranty. In no event shall RAM Fiberglass, Inc. be liable for consequential, compensatory, punitive or incidental damages. This warranty shall not apply to products which have been repaired or altered by other than authorized representatives of RAM Fiberglass, Inc. or to damage or defects caused by accident, misuse, vandalism, Acts of God, corrosion, erosion, normal wear and tear, improper selection by Buyer or other causes beyond the control of RAM Fiberglass, Inc.

8. Ram Fiberglass, Inc. shall be under no obligation or liability to Buyer for any direct, indirect or consequential damages arising out of delay in performance and non-performance of the terms hereof or any order caused directly or indirectly, by fire, explosion, accident, floods, labor trouble or shortage, war, act of or authorized by any government, inability to obtain suitable material, equipment, fuel, power of transportation, or Act of God, or arising from contingencies, occurrences or causes beyond the control of RAM Fiberglass, Inc.. Quantities so affected by any such circumstances may be eliminated without liability, but other terms of sale remain unaffected.

9. Unless otherwise specifically agreed by RAM Fiberglass, Inc., in writing, all goods will be manufactured to standard commercial tolerances in effect at date of manufacture. Orders for special tolerances or other than standard catalog designs are subject to additional charges. RAM Fiberglass, Inc. reserves the right to request payment from Buyer in advance of RAM’s com-mencement of manufacture.

10. Buyer shall reimburse RAM Fiberglass, Inc. for all sales, use, excise or occupation taxes or other taxes imposed on RAM’s sale of the goods to Buyer. To be exempt, Buyer must submit any appropriate tax exemption certificate to RAM Fiberglass, Inc. prior to date of shipment of goods.
