It is very important that parents/guardians take time to read the school newsletter each month.
If you are NOT interested in receiving a paper copy of the Betty Gibson newsletter
as you are viewing it on our webpage, please let the office know.
Also, as an incentive for the students to take home their newsletters, you may enter your family for a free pizza
voucher donated by Little Caesars Pizza. Newsletters are sent home on the 1st school day of the month with the
oldest/only child in the family. The draw will be made 1st thing, the morning of the 5th school day of the month.
Entries can be brought to the office. One entry per family.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATIONS 2016-2017
Registration forms for kindergarten are available at the school. Children who will be 5 years old on or before December 31, 2016 are eligible to attend kindergarten classes for the 2016-2017 school year. If you are aware of any parents of eligible children, please advise them to contact the school.
SCHOOL OF CHOICE School of Choice allows parents and students the ability to choose, generally without cost, a school to be attended other than the one identified as serving the student’s current residential area. There are certain responsibilities and obligations that parents and students must meet when exercising School of Choice. Some of the considerations are: program suitability, space availability, application dates,
transportation. Deadline for application for 2016-2017 is May 13, 2016. School of Choice is not available to Kindergarten students. Parents of Kindergarten students wishing their child to attend a non -catchment area school may apply through a “Special Request” form for “one year only”. Decisions about these placements are not finalized until early September. For further information, please contact your school principal or the Brandon School Division Administration Office at 1031 Sixth Street.
REGISTRATION 2016-2017 (Kindergarten - Gr. 8)
Registration forms for the 2016-2017 school year will be sent home with the students on February 16, 2016.
Please read the registration form carefully to ensure all information is correct and/or make any changes, ie: phone numbers, address, emergency contacts, etc.
Complete the medical health form, both sides, and sign it. This form has to be updated annually.
Forms are to be returned to the school no later than February 16th, 2016
Roots of Empathy (Grade 2/3T)
During Theme 3 "Caring & Planning of Baby", our ROE classroom learned about
teething. Baby Harper does not have any teeth yet but she has been drooling a
ton! We also learned what items are important to have in a diaper bag.
(Grade 2/3S)
During Theme 4 "Emotions", we learned that babies show their
emotions just like we do. We learned that there is no such
thing as a bad baby. Babies com-
municate with us by sharing their emotions. Perhaps most exciting was how Baby Bexley is trying to turn over! She is getting very
strong. We can help them with their situations. We also discussed that it is important that we share our emotions with people we care
about.

A NOTE FROM MUSIC
We have been having tons of fun in music over the past month. One of the many things that we have been doing is Kid-
stix (pictured below). Kidstix, simply put, is drumming. Using trash cans, cutting boards, toy tambourines, and some old
rhythm sticks we have created a type of drum set for each student. Students get to work on a vast variety of skills like
keeping beat, playing in an ensemble, learning easy to advanced rhythms, improvisation, basic composition, musical form
and so much more without even realizing it. Keep your eyes open for some Kidstix performances at our next
concert!
Our music program is very excited to announce that we have received a wonderful grant from the government. The mon-
ey received from this grant will be used to bring in presenters for our grade 6 classes. These classes will be working with
notable local musicians to compose their own musical works.
With the new seasons ahead of us, we also have many things coming in our music department. Here are some clubs and
dates to mark on your calendars:
Mar 2 Orff Club Begins
Mar 3 Dance Club Returns
Feb 25 Talent Show Auditions
Mar 24 Betty Gibson Talent Show
May 2 Music Monday Concert for K-6
We look forward to showing off our musical talents in our upcoming performances. Hope to see you all there.
Betty Gibson Parent Council presents:
Movie night in the gym!

Bring your blankets and get cozy in the gym with your
family and friends.
Admission is free. Everyone welcome! !
Popcorn, treats and drinks will be available for purchase.
There will also be a silver collection with all proceeds going towards our
playstructure fundraising goals.
Dress appropriately for the weather - extra layers for your legs, feet and hands;
Always wear touques and gloves when playing outside;
Remove wet clothing immediately and change to dry clothes as soon as possible;
Teach children not to play around snowplow areas;
Teach children never to touch or lick exposed metal (fences, flagpoles, etc.) in winter;
Do not allow children to dig snow tunnels or forts as they may collapse.
Now that the weather is turning chilly, BSD would like to remind our parents, students and staff of a few safety tips during the up-
coming winter months:
When there is the possibility of inclement weather, visit the Brandon School Division Website at www.bsd.ca and local media for
detailed information.
YOUTH REVOLUTION
Youth Revolution kids have been busy volunteering their time. Many students made the trip to Christmas Cheer in December where they helped bag candy and count oranges for the Christmas hampers.
