The Nurses will be completing required vision and hearing screenings. 9th graders will be screened in both, 7th graders for vision, 11th graders for hearing and new transfer students for both. If any deficiency is found, a letter will be sent home with your daughter. Please return the form to us after further follow up is obtained. If you have any questions, please let us know. Thank you!

FROM THE NURSES

Work study schedules for the 2nd quarter have recently been mailed. If you received notification that your daughter was to be scheduled during the 2nd quarter but you do not receive a schedule in the mail, please notify Mrs. Cyndy Brookover at [email protected].

FOR WORK STUDY

On Tuesday, October 24th, the sophomores will take part in signing the Notre Dame Academy Student Statement at a special prayer service and assembly

What is this about? Why the sophomores?

This student statement was written in 2006 by the Student Council. It has since been personally signed by every sophomore, junior, and senior who attends Notre Dame Academy. By signing this statement, the girls are saying this is WHO I am and HOW I live my day at Notre Dame Academy. It is about integrity, faith in God, confidence in self, creativity, ideals, friendship and love. Each girl promises to uphold these ideals for, “…this is who we are; this is what we do; this is what we bring to the future…” of Notre Dame Academy

and to their own personal life. The sophomores, having been taught this spirit and already being a Notre Dame student for one full year, are honored to celebrate this signing on October 24th before the presence of their classmates.

Congratulations to the Class of 2020!!

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, November 9. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with your daughter’s teachers to discuss her academic progress. Just as in years past, you will schedule your own Parent/Teacher Conferences online.

To register and schedule your desired conferences, enter this link into your internet browser: http://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Notre_Dame_Academy

Once you reach the homepage, you will see a list of all teachers for grades 7-12. Select some or all of your daughter’s teachers. Please refrain from scheduling Study Hall classes.

The following information will appear once you submit your selections:

You have selected [number of teachers you chose] conferences. (Click one of the options listed)

o These are all for one student o There are for more than one student o Return me to the conference list to re-choose my conferences

Continue following the directives given on the following pages to schedule each conference. The choices will differ slightly depending on whether you are registering for one daughter or more than one daughter.

That completes the registration process. The following message will appear:

Thank you for registering. Please check your email at the address you provided. You will find an email with the subject header “Select Date/Time for Teacher Conference Now”. Just press the link provided in the email and you will be able to pick a time slot for each conference.

If the email is not in your inbox, look in spam or junk mail (some servers may not recognize the email address) and click on “not spam” so the email moves to your inbox and the email address is added to your address book as a safe sender.

The times for conferences are from 1:00-4:00 pm and 5:00-8:00 pm. Please choose one 5-minute time slot for each of your daughter’s teachers. If you should need additional time, please email the teacher to set up a longer conference at a different date and time. The Parent/Teacher Scheduler will be closely monitored.

If you need to reference the names of your daughter’s teachers, please log on to your PowerSchool account. Again, please refrain from scheduling Study Hall classes.

The registration deadline is two days before Parent/Teacher Conferences. Time slots may fill up, so please make your selections as soon as possible.

Please Note: The following teachers will have limited availability during conferences

Sr. Colleen Marie Cousino (3:00-4:00 pm, 5:00-6:00 pm) Mrs. Amanda Mutgi (1:00-4:00 pm) Mrs. Karen Niewiadornski (1:00-2:30 pm) Mrs. Vivian Nelson (3:00-4:00 pm, 5:00-6:00 pm)

If you have any questions regarding scheduling, please contact Ms. Kelly Kraus, Administrative Assistant, at [email protected].

As always, you can access your daughter’s grades online, via PowerSchool. On behalf of the entire faculty, I would like to thank you for your continuous support and interest in your daughter’s education. We look forward to seeing you at Parent/Teacher Conferences. – Mrs. Cullum

News from the Counseling Center Credit Flex Change Involving PE Please note that there is a small change in our credit flex requirement if your daughter is earning her PE credit through the BYU option. Due to restructuring of BYU classes this summer, students now only need to take one BYU PE class to fulfill their PE requirement. If you have any questions, please reference the Paths to PE credit at NDA or have your child talk with her counselor.

Reminder to Seniors to Complete any Outstanding Graduation Requirements by January 2018 Seniors - if you are working on an online graduation requirement, an independent study class, or credit recovery class, your course needs to be completed by January 16th, 2018. This will ensure that there is enough time for your course to be graded and updated to your transcript and that you will be on track to graduate in May.

Parents of Sophomores Is your daughter interested in a unique and fun leadership opportunity? Does she like to meet new people and develop her leadership skills?

If so, please encourage her to apply to attend the Hugh O’Brien Leadership Conference (HOBY)! You can learn more by visiting their website: www.HOBY.org or checking out this short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4X95kNcz64 This year’s HOBY conference is June 7-10th, 2018, at Ohio Northern University. To apply, please have your daughter pick up a HOBY Application form from the Counseling Center. Applications are due by November 1, 2017. Only one sophomore from NDA will be selected to attend the conference, so encourage your daughter to apply today! If she has any questions, please see Mrs. Schank. [email protected]

From the College Counselor October 3rd, is the Lourdes University College Fair. This fair is open to all Toledo area Catholic high school students. It runs from 6:30- 8:00 pm in the Lourdes University Franciscan Center. There will be over 100 colleges at the fair and it is a great opportunity to talk to the college representatives and get more information on schools you are interested in. Class of 2018 Parents Thanks so much for coming out to the parent college meeting last month. If you have lingering questions, please contact me. Continue to encourage your daughter to finish those applications! If your daughter has not taken the ACT or SAT, be sure to get her registered immediately for the next test. There are some colleges that require SAT Subject test scores. Check with the colleges your daughter is interested in to see if this is necessary.

Class of 2019 Parents The Junior Student/Parent meeting will take place on Thursday, November 30 at 6:00 pm in the Dining Commons. This meeting will be the "official" kick-off to your daughter's college search and application process. A great deal of information will be dispensed regarding this process. Please be sure you and your daughter are able to attend. Juniors are encouraged to take the ACT or SAT during this school year. Now is a good time to start preparing for this test.

Class of 2018 and 2019 Parents There will be approximately 70 different colleges sending representatives to NDA to speak with our students. As juniors and seniors, your daughters are allowed to participate in these presentations. Check Naviance frequently for the list of dates and times, and have your daughter sign up for the ones she is interested in. Have her print up the confirmation page after she signs up; that will be her pass out of class.

Please contact Mrs. Meier with any questions at [email protected]

Bon’d Fire The 7th and 8th Grade Bon'd Fire will take place Friday, October 6 at NDA behind the Dining Commons. This is always a fun night for the girls and families to relax and enjoy the cooler weather, s’mores, and company! Thank you all those who parents who have contributed time and supplies to the event. If you have any last minute questions, please contact Mrs. Angie Zoldowski at [email protected].

Testing & Early Dismissal October 11Wednesday, October 11, is a no-color day. NDA 7th graders will be taking M.A.P. (Measures of Academic Progress) tests in room 117 from 8:15am – 2 pm. M.A.P. is a diocesan mandated test that covers science, reading, language arts and math. The best way to prepare for standardized testing is to get a good night’s rest and to eat a healthy breakfast. The test will not have any effect, negative or positive, on any grades. NDA 8th graders will be taking the ACRE test for the Toledo Diocese. The ACRE will not take quite as long as the M.A.P. testing. Thus, our 8th graders will be able to use some of the time to review Theology, work on homework, go over room requests for Chicago, ask teachers for assistance with studying, and complete student council business. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Andrea Zimmerman at [email protected]. All students will wear school uniforms. Both 7th and 8th graders should arrive to school by 8:15 am. 7th graders should report to room 117. 8th graders should report to the Resource Center. This will allow the teachers time to take attendance and provide instructions for the day. A snack and pizza lunch will be provided for students on this day, and students should bring a water bottle. Lastly, please remember that school will dismiss at 2 pm. Students must be picked up no later than 2:15 pm.

Yankee Candle SaleThe Yankee Candle Fundraiser ends October 6. Please make sure your daughters turn in their envelopes no later than October 9. Student earnings will be available through business office by October 16. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Zimmerman at [email protected].

1. Parents are going to have an opportunity to send in snacks and water for the girls to have with them on the bus ride. Please see information from Mrs. Kraus on items needed and when/where to place the items.

2. All final payments must be made by October 27. Please contact the business office if you would like to make a payment. Also, balances from the Yankee fund drive will be applied.

3. There will be a specified list provided to the girls (and sent to the parents) for all final details in November, but some helpful answers to frequently asked questions which might help you with planning include:

Q: How much cash should my daughter have with her for trip? A: $125-$150 (pre-paid credit cards in combination with cash work well)

Q: What should my daughter pack to wear? • Jeans (for the city) • Khakis or black pants (for the show) • Sweats (for the bus) • Sweaters/Spiritwear • Boots/tennis shoes (anything comfortable for walking) • A change of shoes in case one pair gets wet • Winter or Fall Coat and hat (just in case)

Q: How will I contact my daughter? A: The girls are all permitted to carry their personal cell phones with them for the entire trip.

Q: Who will my daughter room with at the hotel? A: The girls will each have an opportunity to fill out a form with 5 of their close friends they would feel comfortable being with. There is a guarantee that they would have at least 1 person they requested in their room.

Q: What about medications? A: Please notify Mrs. Zimmerman. She will consult the school nurse to properly handle each individual student’s needs. Once we know your needs, this will be communicated to Mrs. Zimmerman and Mrs. Cullum who will be holding onto any medications as well as the first aid kit during the trip.

Q: What about chaperones? A: The final list chaperones will be announced November 1st. Mrs. Cullum will be joining the class for the trip.

What Not to Wear • High heels • Sleeveless tops • Skirts
