It is very important that parents/guardians take time to read the school newsletter each month.

If you are NOT interested in receiving a paper copy of the Betty Gibson newsletter as you are viewing it on our webpage, please let the office know.

Also, as an incentive for the students to take home their newsletters, you may enter your family for a free pizza voucher donated by Little Caesars Pizza. Newsletters are sent home on the 1st school day of the month with the

oldest/only child in the family. The draw will be made 1st thing, the morning of the 5th school day of the month. Entries can be brought to the office. One entry per family.

Roots of Empathy comes to Grade 8 class: October’s theme is “Crying”. Mrs. Anderson’s Gr. 8 students will be discussing how crying is a way babies communicate. Babies cry for many reasons; sometimes it is a physical reason. They might be hungry, in pain, tired or are feeling discomfort. At other times, it is for psycho-social reason. The Grade 8’s will be learning that a crying baby is not a bad baby. They will be discussing SIDS, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. We will be learning how a babies temperament trait connects to crying.

Ms. Paulishyn, Guidance Counsellor

Youth Revolution Youth Revolution is underway. It is open to all Grade 5-8 students at Betty Gibson. Our purpose is to make our community a better place by modeling healthy lifestyle choices. We volunteer in the BG community and focus on supporting our fellow students through creating healthy, fun events in our school. We usually meet once a month at lunch to plan and connect. Last years YR students will be visiting classrooms to recruit new members. Hope to see you! Meeting dates and times are announced over the intercom.

October YR Plans: October 7: YR lunch meeting October 14th: YR Kick off with all kids in BSD Beyond the Hurt Training (select Gr. 7 & 8’s will be trained to deliver the program to Gr. 6 students at BG) October 24-28th: We Scare Hunger (Local Action): Gr . 5/6 project:

PATROL INFORMATION

Our patrols cover two intersections; 12th & Van Horne and 11th & Van Horne Ave. Please have a conversation with your child about respecting our patrols and the very important job they do. They are there to help our very youngest students to our oldest students cross the street safely. We would also like to thank you in advance for any encouraging words you offer our patrols as they are a dedicated bunch of kids who do a great job for our school. The Po-lice Constable who has been assigned to our school requires that all parents also use the Patrols to cross the street.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

A grade 4 student in our school did a very

generous act this summer. She had

heard about donating hair to help cancer patients by using it for making wigs for them. In July she

went to the hair salon and had her beautiful long hair cut short to help make someone's

life a little better.

Thank you Kalli!

Fruit and Vegetable Grant

We are fortunate that we will be receiving a grant from the Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba, so

that we can provide fresh fruit and vegetable snacks to our students.

We do not have all of the details yet, but hopefully it will be similar

to last year. If so, each classroom will be given fruit and/or vegeta-bles for snacks each week. All

students are welcome to enjoy these snacks while they last (for at

least two days out of each week). Depending on the item, the price,

and the popularity, the snacks may be available for more days during the week. Volunteers would be

greatly appreciated. Most of the time, help is needed Monday morn-

ings from 9:30-10:30 to prepare and distribute the snacks to each

classroom. Please call the school (204) 729-3965 if you are able to

help with this program. Parents, please let your child’s teacher know if your child can not have

certain fruits or vege-tables (due to aller-

gies, etc.). Stay tuned, as there will be

more information to come about this won-derful opportunity.
