Betty Gibson School is always very happy to have parents and guardians volunteering in our school. Volun-teers are often needed for fieldtrips, class-room activities, library
and many more areas of the school. We would love to have more volun-teers signed up to help in our school even if it’s for once or twice a year. Please call or stop into the office (with two pieces of identification) if you’re interested in volunteering and we will start the process of having you become a volunteer. Thank you

Roots of Empathy comes to Grade 8 class: October’s theme is “Crying”. Mrs. Anderson’s Gr. 8 students will be discussing how crying is a way babies communicate. Babies cry for many reasons; sometimes it is a physical reason. They might be hungry, in pain, tired or are feeling discomfort. At other times, it is for psycho-social reason. The Grade 8’s will be learning that a crying baby is not a bad baby. They will be discussing SIDS, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. We will be learning how a babies temperament trait connects to crying.

PATROL INFORMATION
Our patrols cover two intersections; 12th & Van Horne and 11th & Van Horne Ave. Please have a conversation with your child about respecting our patrols and the very important job they do. They are there to help our very youngest students to our oldest students cross the street safely. We would also like to thank you in advance for any encouraging words you offer our patrols as they are a dedicated bunch of kids who do a great job for our school. The Po-lice Constable who has been assigned to our school requires that all parents also use the Patrols to cross the street.

Halloween Celebrations
A grade 4 student in our school did a very
generous act this summer. She had
heard about donating hair to help cancer patients by using it for making wigs for them. In July she
went to the hair salon and had her beautiful long hair cut short to help make someone's
life a little better.
Thank you Kalli!

Fruit and Vegetable Grant
We are fortunate that we will be receiving a grant from the Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba, so
that we can provide fresh fruit and vegetable snacks to our students.
We do not have all of the details yet, but hopefully it will be similar
to last year. If so, each classroom will be given fruit and/or vegeta-bles for snacks each week. All
students are welcome to enjoy these snacks while they last (for at
least two days out of each week). Depending on the item, the price,
and the popularity, the snacks may be available for more days during the week. Volunteers would be
greatly appreciated. Most of the time, help is needed Monday morn-
ings from 9:30-10:30 to prepare and distribute the snacks to each
classroom. Please call the school (204) 729-3965 if you are able to
help with this program. Parents, please let your child’s teacher know if your child can not have
certain fruits or vege-tables (due to aller-
gies, etc.). Stay tuned, as there will be
more information to come about this won-derful opportunity.
