It’s hard to believe we are at the end of week 2 already. We’ve had some pretty warm days so the students are spending more time inside when it is over 40 degrees and we have been talking to them about being aware of their bodies, so they know when it is time to slow down and drink water. Sunscreen is in the kitchen on the left hand side as you walk in the door. Please encourage your children to apply it in the morning when putting their lunch in the fridge. We have continued with poetry this week and had some fun on Friday doing a treasure hunt that the 3/4 students had designed for us as part of mapping in maths. We are raising lots of money for our Do it for Daniel Fun Run, so please hop onto the website and add something to our accounts. We look forward to seeing all the parents and Grandparents on Grandparents Day.
English In English this week we have continued our poetry unit. In P-2 we have focused on the poetic devices rhythm, rhyme and alliteration as well as looking at the different structures in poetry. To practice identifying nouns and adjectives, we also did an
adjective poem.

HASS In HASS this term we are focused on geography. We have been learning how to draw maps. Here are some of the maps we drew of our classroom. We used our maps in Maths too. In maths we are learning about grid references. See what we did to our maps! We used our rulers to draw a grid over the top and put reference numbers and letters along each side. We then made some grid references to see if other people in our class could find the objects at the location. The 3/4 students also did grid referencing but they drew a map of the whole school. They then made a treasure hunt for us by giving us grid references. At each point we had to search to find the next clue.
Mapping by Lacey-Jane – Year 2
We did mapping because we are learning about geography. We did a map of the classroom from a

Treasure Hunt – connections between Maths and HASS (Geography) With Miss B in HASS, the students drew maps of the classroom. The P-2 students drew a grid over the top of theirs with Ms Argus in Maths, while the 3/4 class drew a big map of the whole school. They then put a grid over their map and created a treasure hunt for the P-2 students. They wrote coordinates to form the clues and we all went to see if we could find the treasure.
Here we are reading the map.
Working out the next location.
