Welcome Back A warm welcome back to everyone after the holiday break. Looking at our students at Monday morning’s assembly, it was wonderful to see so many excited faces amongst our students upon their return to school. Grade 5/6 Production If you happened to have been at the Grade 5/6 production during the last week of Term 3, you will no doubt have an appreciation of the special night we were treated to. The overall quality of the production was simply amazing and the quality of the choral and individual singing was outstanding. The Grade 5/6 Production never fails to unveil some stars and on the night it was wonderful to see so many of our students shine. Huge plaudits to Carrye Malone and Kate Phoenix for their dedication and professionalism in delivering a wonderful event for our children and to our community. DVDs of the performance will be available from our office soon – if you would like to reserve a copy, please make contact with the office. Vale Neilma It was with great sadness that our community learned of the recent passing of Neilma Toy. Over the years, Neilma has been a great servant of our school, consistently lending a hand at our major fundraising events. A smile was never far away from Neilma’s face and we will all miss the big hearted approach she showed towards helping our school. On behalf of our school community, I would like to extend my sincerest sympathies to the Toy family. Grade 5/6 Bike Hike Next Wednesday our Grade 5/6 students will be heading off to ride 150 kilometres from along the Great Victorian Rail Trail. Combining with students from Nagambie Primary School and Seymour College, our students will take on this fabulous three-day challenge. Many of our parents are lending their support, either by riding or driving support vehicles, and it is wonderful to see our community getting behind this fabulous feature of Avenel Primary School culture. I will be riding with our students for the three days and I am looking forward to seeing our students show great camaraderie and spirit over the three days. Term 4 Highlights Term 4 is always a busy term and over the next 11 weeks, we will be providing our students with an action packed program. Our Prep students will be undertaking their first school sleepover, whilst our Grade 1/2 students will also be participating in their very own excursion and sleepover. Our Grade 5/6 students will be challenged through our Bike Hike camp and the Energy Breakthrough event and we will also be running a swimming program towards the term. With our Fete and Clearing Sale, Christmas concert and Grade 6 Valedictory thrown in for good measure, Term 4 promises to be a busy but thoroughly exciting term for all of our students. Nits Unfortunately, we have had notifications of the presence of nits. I would be grateful if everyone could make a concerted effort to detect nits in their child’s hair. We will organise our “nitbuster” crew for a whole school inspection in the next week. All the best, Neil
