• Determinants of health include the internal and external environments, availability of personal, social, and cultural resources, and lifestyle.

• The ability to carry out daily tasks, develop cardiovascular and muscular fitness, maintain a healthy weight and
nutritious diet, and avoid abusing harmful substances

• The ability to maintain a balance between work and leisure in order to
promote wellness and personal satisfaction.

illness and death and were satisfied at the midpoint
• Today, we are able to achieve a higher level of health and a better quality of life

1. Life Expectancy:-The number of years a person can expect to
live (has increased by 30 years between 1900 and 2000)
2. Quality of Life:
-The degree of overall satisfaction that one gets from life (must concentrate on more than one aspect of health to have high quality of life)

• ACTIVITY:– With partner, identify ways in which each of these
factors influence YOUR life. Write answers down and use examples.

• What are some risk factors that we have control over in everyday life?

• National health program with 2 main goals:– Increase amount of years of healthy life for each
American– Eliminate differences in health based on race, ethnic
group, or income
• The program aims to raise awareness, provide information for everyone, and help individuals build the skills they need to maintain a healthier life.
