LETTER FROM CHRIS RONDEAU

I`am so proud to share an update on the success we’ve collectively achieved in this major milestone

year for Planet Fitness and our engagement efforts in local communities and across the country.

At our 2019 National Conference in Las Vegas, I was invigorated by the enthusiasm our franchisees showed as I stood alongside almost 200 volunteers who packed 3,000 backpacks for the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada. The energy in the room was contagious and so clearly reflected the generosity and spirit that is at the heart of this company.

That sense of purpose is particularly highlighted by the growth of the Judgement Free Generation® (JFG), our pro-kindness, anti-bullying initiative. 2020 will mark four years since we launched the JFG and, in the past year, we’ve continued to invest in this cause through our expanded partnerships with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center to reach youth in need.

Our continued impact would not be possible without the overwhelming support of our franchisees, team members, members and vendors. Together, we are celebrating the following milestones:

> We have contributed more than $5M to-date toward pro-kindness, anti-bullying support.

> We awarded 55 JFG Scholarships – totaling $275,000 – to a group of standout, college-bound teens who promote kindness and inclusion in their communities.

> We built more than 30 Mini Judgement Free Zones, giving Boys & Girls Club youth safe and accepting spaces to exercise and learn about fitness.

> And, we contributed more than 500 volunteer hours during the 2019 Flexing for Good Volunteer Week at PFHQ, with countless hours volunteered in communities across the country by franchisees and club team members.

2019 marked an important year for our role in advancing teen physical and emotional wellness. We launched our Teen Summer Challenge, opening our doors from May 15 to September 1 to teenagers to work out for free in all of our clubs in the U.S. and Canada. This effort reached 925k teens and drove 5M+ workouts.

Every member of the Planet Fitness community deserves recognition for the positive societal impacts we have made and continue to make every day. While I’m extremely proud of these milestone moments that we have reached in 2019, there is still more progress to be made. We are excited to continue to grow in 2020 and deepen our overall impact across communities.

My best,

Chris Rondeau

Our continued impact would not be possible without the overwhelming support of our franchisees, team members, members and vendors.

JFG OVERVIEW + PARTNERS

Bullying continues to remain an all-too-common issue today. In fact, one in five youth report that they’ve been bullied, and bullying is the #1 concern for parents of school-aged children. As the home of the Judgement Free Zone®, Planet Fitness is committed to addressing this important issue. The Judgement Free Generation® is our philanthropic initiative designed to combat the judgement and bullying faced by today’s youth by creating a culture of kindness and encouragement.

MISSION: To empower a generation to grow up contributing to a more judgement free planet – a place where everyone feels accepted and like they belong.

VISION: To free the world of judgement, and fill it with encouragement.

Together with partners like Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the nation’s leading youth development organization, we are providing youth with evidence-based tools and training to create a culture where bullying is not accepted, and kindness prevails. Since Boys & Girls Clubs of America enables more than four million youth each year to reach their full potential, we believe that we can and will make a meaningful impact together.

Planet Fitness has also teamed up with PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center, the nation’s leading nonprofit bullying prevention organization, to introduce educational resources designed to equip school teachers, counselors and other educators with the tools needed to empower students to prevent bullying and stand up for kindness.

PROMOTING KINDNESS, PREVENTING BULLYING

GRANTS TO CREATE KINDER CULTURES

In 2019, we continued our commitment to extend our Judgement Free Zone® philosophy in afterschool spaces for youth in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Our Core Programming ApproachOur programming with Boys & Girls Clubs has focused on providing tools and resources to establish more positive Club environments where youth feel included.

In order to do so, programming focuses on both staff training and youth development curricula that promote social-emotional skills, which are proven to help youth build healthy relationships and make responsible decisions. The development, growth and nurturing of these skills through JFG programming ultimately helps to create an environment for youth that fosters empathy and promotes kindness and inclusion. Our focus on inclusivity, paired with creating opportunities for positive interactions among peers, builds spaces in which bullying is far less likely to happen.

Core Program Elements

JFG Youth Ambassador Grants: The youth ambassador grants empower teens to lead by example and work with their peers to create more inclusive cultures in their Clubs.

Positive Club Climate Staff Training Grants: The grant program was developed in partnership with experts at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and equips Boys & Girls Club staff with the resources and skills they need to effectively bolster group connection and build positive environments within Clubs. Since initial implementation in 2016, the trainings have become core to Boys & Girls Clubs’ professional development curriculum.

“Get Down with Your Judgement Free Self” Video Contest In celebration of New Year’s Eve, we challenged Boys & Girls Club youth across the country to submit fun dance videos to show how they get down with their judgement free selves in 2019 for a chance to win a $10,000 grant. We received more than 50 amazing video submissions that demonstrated creativity, awesome dance moves, and an understanding of the importance of being ourselves and accepting others.

SCHOLARSHIPS RECOGNIZING ACTS OF ACCEPTANCE

We are proud to have expanded our JFG scholarship program in 2019 to award 30 deserving youth from Boys & Girls Clubs across the country with $5,000 scholarships for their secondary education. The JFG Scholarship recognizes youth not for athletics or academics as typical programs might, but instead for demonstrating and promoting kindness, acceptance and inclusion in their communities, qualities that Planet Fitness and Boys & Girls Clubs of America both strongly support.

We are honored to have been able to award scholarships to more than 55 students from across 24 states since 2017.

PROMOTING KINDNESS, PREVENTING BULLYING

SPARKING TEEN-LED KINDNESS CONVERSATIONS

SCHOOL & STUDENT-LED RESOURCES

Planet Fitness partnered with Boys & Girls Club in Texas to host the second annual Kindness Conversation in October in honor of National Bullying Prevention Month. The Kindness Conversation provided a safe space for youth to discuss bullying prevention and identify solutions for fostering kinder cultures where youth are accepted and included.

The conversation was led by Skylar Diggins, a point guard for the WNBA’s Dallas Wings. She shared her personal journey with bullying and encouraged students to think compassionately about others.

We partnered with PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center to develop free-to-download educational tools designed to engage and educate students on how to address and prevent bullying by standing up for kindness.

These resources, which include teacher guidebooks, interactive activities, videos and handouts, are intended to be a one-stop shop for classrooms and student groups alike that may already be struggling with bullying behavior or for those hoping to get ahead of these issues before they start.

In addition to the full curriculum, we’ve also developed quick reference guides for elementary, middle and high school students that share the key details youth need to know about bullying and their role in creating a bully-free environment.

To access the resources, visit PACER.org/planetfitness

To further extend our impact during National Bullying Prevention Month in October, we joined with PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center to launch Students with Solutions – a nationwide contest that invites classrooms across the country to submit their creative ideas for spreading kindness and preventing bullying.

The program engaged classrooms with a compelling video on bullying prevention and a discussion guide for thoughtful group dialogue. After watching the video, students were encouraged to create a visual representation inspired by what they discussed and how they will do their part to spread kindness in their classrooms.

Classrooms across the country showed their creativity through submissions with videos, songs, drawings and poems all about promoting kindness. The two winning classrooms, from Grande Innovation Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona and Parker Junior High in Flossmoor, Illinois, received a Buddy Bunch for their efforts - a bench where students can go when they want someone to talk to.

Bullying Prevention Curriculum Nationwide Kindness Contest

CAN SOMEONE BE INVOLVED IN MORE THAN ONE ROLE?Yes! It’s often the case that being bullied, doing the bullying, or witnessing bullying are not distinct categories! It’s more common that kids play multiple roles throughout the day.

WHAT YOU CAN DO IF YOU ARE BEING BULLIED OR SEE BULLYINGBy learning advocacy skills, you can help to address bullying for yourself and others.

Why is advocacy for self and others important to address bullying? Advocacy skills can empower you to:

• Ask others to get involved, such as telling your parents or other adults• Gain confidence to take action to stop the bullying and recognize that you have the right to be safe• Identify what help you need and think of ways you can respond when bullying happens• Make choices that lead to positive change for you, such as sharing how others can help you

STUDENT ACTION PLANReady to take action to address bullying? Maybe not sure how to start?

Bullying can end, but that won’t happen unless students, parents, and educators work together and take action. Start by creating a plan that works for you and your situation. This student action plan is an opportunity for you – either on your own or with your parents and teachers – to develop a strategy to change what’s happening to you or someone else. It’s your chance to have a voice in making change.

The plan includes three steps:Step 1: Describe the bullying that’s happening. Include dates, location, who is involved, and details of the behavior.Step 2: Describe what you would like done about it. Think about how the situation could be stopped or prevented.Step 3: What steps can you take to make that happen? Include who could help, what they can do, and what you can do.

Download PACER’s Student Action Plan template to get started at PACER.org/publications/bullypdf/BP-25.pdf

YOU HAVE RIGHTSIt is important for you to know that there is legislation in every state designed to protect students in a bullying situation. These laws vary from state to state, but many state that:

• Students who are bullied should be provided with support and strategies designed to keep them safe and prevent further bullying

• Those who are bullying should be given consequences that are appropriate for the situation and circumstances• Students who witness bullying should be trained on how to respond to bullying and the role they can play in

creating a safe school community

What Youth Should Know About BullyingA quick guide for middle and high school students

WHAT IS BULLYING?Bullying is typically defined as when:

• A person is being hurt, harmed, or humiliated with words or behavior• The behavior is repeated or there is a concern that it will be repeated• The behavior is being done intentionally• The person being hurt has a hard time stopping or preventing the behavior• The hurtful behavior is carried out by those who have more power, such as being older, being physically

bigger or stronger, having more social status, or when a group of students singles out an individual

WHO IS INVOLVED?There are three potential roles in a bullying situation:

Targets = The individual(s) to whom the behavior is directedThose who bully = The individual(s) who are directing the behaviorWitnesses = The individual(s) who see or know of the behavior

TARGET

EXPANDING FITNESS, BOOSTING CONFIDENCE

BUILT MINI JUDGMENT FREE ZONE® GYM SPACES ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Together with our franchisees and team members, we are bringing our Judgement Free Zone to Boys & Girls Clubs across the country, offering safe, non-intimidating gym spaces where youth can get active and encourage one another. These Mini Judgement Free Zones reflect our very own purple and yellow colors and inspirational messaging to boost confidence and remind youth that they belong. We have seen firsthand the incredible things that happen when people feel strong and empowered and are committed to providing youth in our communities with opportunities to build a positive relationship with fitness that will hopefully stay with them for life.

Spotlight: Knoxville, TN

Planet Fitness team members in Knoxville brought together community members, Club youth and the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Tennessee Valley to celebrate the grand opening of a Mini Judgement Free Zone in Knoxville with a ribbon cutting and personal training session led by our very own trainers.

Spotlight: Cincinnati, OH

Our Planet Fitness team in Ohio built a Mini Judgement Free Zone for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati, an organization which serves more than 130 youth per day.

Of the new space, Boys & Girls Club executives remarked:

“It is extremely important for our kids to be moving every single day. The statistics show that our area has a high demographic of young people that are considered obese. We know that being physically active actually increases a child’s ability to concentrate and perform better in school too. And more importantly, it helps with social-emotional capacities. It increases their self-esteem and how they feel about life overall.”

- Crystal Allen, VP Operations, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati

“We try to teach respect, kindness and encouragement across the board to the kids in our Club, which aligns perfectly with the Planet Fitness anti-bullying initiative. Coming in here respecting each other, accepting people are different, doing things together, is a great opportunity to work together and just get along.”

- Jeannie Helsel, Corporate Giving Specialist, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati

Special thanks to franchisees and partners who raised more than $150,000 during the 2019 PFIFA Conference to help build six Mini Judgement Free Zones across the country!

Thanks to our franchisees, team members, members, and vendors we raised more than $1M during our system-wide fundraising effort this September in support of our partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and raised $20,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada.

PROMOTED REGULAR (NOT JUST RANDOM) ACTS OF KINDNESSThis February, we rallied our members on social media to help shift random acts of kindness to regular acts of kindness in celebration of Random Acts of Kindness Day. For every comment about regular acts of kindness posted over the course of a week, we donated $5 to PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center.

We were inspired to see so many kind comments and thrilled to donate $25,000!

Spotlight: Denver, CO

Over the last three years, Planet Fitness has continued to build its partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Denver through local donations, volunteer support and celebratory events with the local NBA team, the Denver Nuggets.

Spotlight: Detroit, MI

In 2019, the 44 greater metro Detroit Planet Fitness clubs banded together for a fundraising campaign to raise $10,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan. As part of the campaign, 5 local radio personalities committed to a month-long training for a one-hour triathlon held at the Southgate Planet Fitness club. For every minute spent working out during the event, Planet Fitness clubs committed to donate $35 to the Boys & Girls Club. With the support and coaching of our trainers and team members, each contestant reached their 60-minute goal and a total of $10,000 was generated.

Spotlight: Portland, OR

The PF team in Portland sponsored local Boys & Girls Club youth to visit the Portland Trail Blazers facility, receive a tour and even play in a basketball game with the team’s shooting guard, CJ McCollum.

HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE

BE THANKFUL PROGRAM

In 2019, Planet Fitness headquarters hosted its second annual Flexing for Good volunteer week. More than 130 team members participated, choosing from one of five, one-day volunteer opportunities.

PFHQ volunteers helped to paint a pool house and to clear brush at the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester’s offsite summer camp, rolled up their sleeves to help clean the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, cleared dog-walking trails and weeded fences at the New England SPCA in Stratham, assisted with various improvement projects including painting and installing a new door at Lydia’s House of Hope in Somersworth, and cleaned up a park in their home community of Hampton.

During the 2019 holiday season, PFHQ held our second annual Holiday Toy Drive, benefitting the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, MA. We challenged each department to collect the most toys and decorate the most festive collection bin. Thanks to the enthusiastic support of the PFHQ team, we were able to donate more than 600 toys and make a $5,000 donation for deserving Boys & Girls Club youth.

The “Be Thankful” program, new in 2019, invited PFHQ team members to recognize their fellow colleagues with

a $1 donation to Boys & Girls Clubs. We raised more than $700 for Boys & Girls Clubs and celebrated those team

members who were recognized with special notes, balloons and chocolates.

OPENING OUR DOORS TO TEENS

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Grand Strand (Myrtle Beach, SC) earned a $1,000 grant for promoting and participating in the Teen Summer Challenge

TEEN SUMMER CHALLENGE

During Summer 2019, we opened our doors across our Planet Fitness locations in the U.S. and Canada and invited teenagers ages 15-18 to work out for free – all summer long.

The inaugural Teen Summer Challenge offered teens a way to stay active and build self-confidence and self-esteem in the process.

Nearly half of all teens (41%) report that their fitness levels dramatically decrease over the summer when school is out and they don’t have the same access to physical activity. This not only impacts their physical health, but also impacts their emotional wellbeing: Teens who exercise noted they feel more confident (47%), happier (43%), less stressed (37%) and less anxious (24%) overall.

The Teen Summer Challenge gave teens the opportunity to incorporate regular exercise into their routines and form healthy habits that we hope will stay with them for life.

Beyond activity in Planet Fitness clubs, we held a promotion with the Boys & Girls Clubs to encourage even more youth to get involved. Clubs that promoted the challenge on social media using the #BGCAteensummerchallenge hashtag were entered to win $1,000 to further their in-Club programming.

What’s more – all teens who signed up for the Teen Summer Challenge were automatically entered into the Planet Fitness Scholarship Sweepstakes – which randomly selected 51 teens across all 50 states and Washington, D.C. to receive a $500 scholarship, with one lucky teen receiving a $5,000 grand prize.

The Planet Fitness team in Detroit partnered with the Detroit Police Department to build a new gym for the 12th Precinct. Detroit Chief of Police, James Craig, joined in the opening celebration and tried out some of the new equipment.

We are committed to increasing access to fitness. This past year, PF Corporate and our franchisees were proud to donate fitness centers to several deserving partners in our communities.

THANK YOU TO OUR FRANCHISEES, TEAM MEMBERS, MEMBERS AND VENDORS FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT. WE ARE PROUD TO BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE TOGETHER.
