About
Holland Bloorview
Kids Rehabilitation Hospital
Holland Bloorview has done so much for us. We see the gains our daughter has made. We want people to know the potential children with disabilities have if they’re given the proper support in a caring environment. This is what Holland Bloorview offers to all children. Lena, Mia’s mom
Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital creates a world of possibility by supporting children and youth living with disability, medical complexity, illness and injury. Our vision is to create the most meaningful and healthy futures for all children, youth and families.
We take a holistic approach to helping over 8000 families who come through our doors each year as inpatients and outpatients, and are renowned for our expertise in partnering with clients and families to provide exceptional care
Holland Bloorview is a top 40 Canadian research hospital that is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. Our innovations, research and evidence-informed care impacts the lives of children and youth around the globe.
We are guided by a goal to lead and model social change by eliminating stigma aimed at kids and youth living with disability.
“ “
Personalized Care is Vital When Holland Bloorview Becomes a Second HomeWhen hospital stays extend for months for children undergoing rehabilitation, personalized care for them and their families is top of mind. From smoothing out administrative matters to making the families feel as comfortable and cared for as possible, Holland Bloorview strives to make a difference. Just ask six-year-old Carson and five-year-old Alex, who share a room together.
Using Music for Brain Health and Unlocking Inner Rock Stars “When the music starts, they are in charge, they are in control. They can just be who they want to be. Music gives them that permission to just be themselves.” One of the most magical things about Holland Bloorview’s music therapy program is that kids enjoy themselves so much, they don’t even realize it’s a treatment unto itself.

Poised for Huge Growth, Bloorview Research Institute Delivers Newfound Hope to FamiliesThe Bloorview Research Institute is poised for huge growth, with a $25 million campaign underway to promote world-leading efforts in neuroscience, recruit renowned scientists, drive machine learning and artificial intelligence, and bring life-changing discoveries to the market. Research is, as one Holland Bloorview parent put it, hope for the future. “That hope, mixed with love, gives our kids the strength to face their challenges and get through tough days when everything seems too hard to handle.”
Giving Parents a Community of Support“I don’t know what we would do without Parent Talks,” says Jen whose young son has autism. “It’s given us a sense of safety, and peace in what can be an incredibly difficult journey.” Holland Bloorview is expanding this peer support program to broaden its impact on parents adjusting to raising a child with autism or cerebral palsy.
Building the Next Generation of Developmental Pediatric SpecialistsAt least 400,000 Canadian children live with disabilities. It’s more important than ever to train and encourage new developmental pediatric specialists to help manage the complex needs of these youth. That’s why Holland Bloorview runs a two-year residency and fellowship program in partnership with the University of Toronto.
Lifting Innovative Projects off the Ground KneuroKnits, a new group devised by a Holland Bloorview clinician-scientist, studies the benefits of a knitting club for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder. It’s one of dozens of innovative projects to emerge in recent years from our donor-funded Centre for Leadership, whose seed funding gets great ideas off the ground.

A Powerful Anti-Stigma Campaign Fueled by Powerful Stories “I hope that Dear Everybody makes people a little bit more comfortable seeing people with disabilities around, because they’re here,” says Jen whose seven-month-old son had a stroke that may leave him with life-long disabilities. “Accept it and let’s embrace it.” Hers was among the incredible stories shared in a national campaign to end disability stigma.
An Energized Community of Supporters Raises the Bar for Care Over 9,500 donors and 1,300 volunteers play integral roles in Holland Bloorview’s model of care. This incredible community of individuals contributes time, energy and insight help to end stigma and improve the lives of children with disabilities – and literally energizes our hospital.

Family as Faculty Program Recognizes Families as Experts in Their Own CareFamily as Faculty leaders participate in teaching or facilitation roles as equal partners with front-line staff not only across Holland Bloorview, but into the community too.
“The idea is that families are experts in their own care, and are therefore the best people to convey that knowledge to clinicians and staff,” says one Family as Faculty leader.
Charting a Course with Help from Children and FamiliesFrom many angles, Holland Bloorview gathers, analyzes and actions the feedback of our clients and families. The newest is from videos recorded at Youth Feedback Corner, an idea created by Jadine, a client with cerebral palsy. “This way, we can answer the questions we want and have a safe place to share our stories,” she says.
