Mandate of the magnet test facility:

- 1232 dipoles + 460 quadrupoles have to be cold tested at CERN

- 12 benches built, organized in 6 clusters of 2 benches (SM18 building)

- Wide range of local (per cluster) or shared (mobile rack) equipments

- Magnet presence on the bench VS number of tests to execute

Constraints for the tests & measurements:

- Several applications have been developed to assist the tests and measurements

- Fast and easy setup of the applications

- Taking into account specific calibration of the used devices

- Limit as much as possible the manual edition of the configuration files

- Traceability of the used equipments is requested by the QA rules

Definition of a Test:

From the TEMA point of view, a test is :

- A list of commands

- From a set of pre-defined commands, dedicated to an application

- Used to execute a measurement with a list of specified equipments

- On a local test bench

- Used to execute a set of measurements & to drive the equipments

- On a local test bench

But what about the Magnetic Measurements …

… at SM18 the MM are managed by the MMP6 application

Page 25: IMMW14, Ferney Voltaire, 26-29 September 2005 hubert.reymond@cern.ch (slide 1/35)

ConclusionsConclusions

IMMW14, Ferney Voltaire, 26-29 September 2005 [email protected] (slide 35/35)

- The integration of the Test Master, Hardware Recognition System and MMP6satisfies the constraints specified for the test benches facility.

- The full system is in use since few month. The performance is very satisfactory, with a good reliability.

- A lot of time has been saved during the phases of measurement and softwareconfiguration.

- The experience of HRS will be taken as an example in the view of an adaptationfor the LHC.
