Immigration- What Do We Really
Know? Over the past century, Longmont has been the home of immigrants from all over the world. According to the 1910 census, Russian-Germans were the largest ethnic group and over 25% of the farmers working southeast of Longmont were of Russian-German descent. The town of Windsor became a Russian-German enclave. The first generation of immigrants from Japan settled on farms in the St. Vrain Valley around 1915 to 1920, according to Betty Ann Newby's "The Longmont Album: History and Folklore of the St. Vrain Valley." Many of the first Latinos in Longmont came from other states in the United States. Latinos from New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas worked the sugar beet fields. Today, immigrants now account for one out of every six city residents, according to data from the American Community Survey. https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/table/RHI725214/0845970 So, what do we know about immigration? Tom Hoffman will be facilitating a six-week adult education class starting April 3rd, to study God’s word about immigration, what we hear, what is really happening, and what the law says. Come and hear stories from our brothers and sisters who now live here in Longmont. An outline of the classis on page 8 in this month’s Central Connects.

News About Karin Rebuldela and Her Recent Move
Many of you may have noticed Karin Rebuldela’s absence in the last few weeks. She has recently moved to Texas to be closer to one of her sons. What you may or may not be aware of is the reason for her move. Karin is living with Alzheimer’s and the time had come for her to transition to a memory care facility. The following letter is written by her son Marc, on behalf of the family. It shares a little more information and an address if you wish to contact her. Please keep Karin and her family in your prayers as they move through this transition.
Dear all, Where to start? The difficulty of these things is rarely written upon the earth but in the heart, with loss and indignity. These are profoundly sad days for us but they are days we saw coming nonetheless. There are so many things we want to talk about and share, but that would take more time than we have here, so we’ll simply talk about what is happening and how much we love you all. As of Monday, February 8th, Karin was gently spirited to Dallas and placed in the skilled and caring hands of the people of Silverado Memory Care. She enjoyed the journey and was able to spend some quality time with her grandchildren, Evelyn and Ford while watching the Broncos win the Super Bowl! The following morning, she and I had breakfast followed by her placement in Silverado. The placement itself was uneventful (they met her at the door, offered to take her for a walk and show her the facility, and she went around the corner as I began the paperwork) and she is now living comfortably and with no apparent struggle about leaving her house behind. When I visit, she is surprised that I found her, seems a little disoriented about time and place, but enjoys being in the moment with me and the grandkids. The staff at Silverado handled the transition with care and professionalism, and continue to be top notch. We were graced with a fair amount of good fortune to be able to find this care facility for her. As some of you know, Karin’s placement could not have come sooner. Her condition has been deteriorating for some time and it had simply become unsafe for her to live alone any longer. The whole family is in agreement. This had to happen. To those who have been there for her in Longmont, words fall desperately short of being able to describe our gratitude for all the love and help you’ve provided over these last several years. She could not have done it without you! Karin often expresses to us how much she loves and cares about all her friends. As difficult as this disease has been on her, we realize that it was perhaps even harder for close friends and family to adjust to the new Karin and learn how to accommodate her in ever-changing ways. There is still that spark in her eye when she talks about Central Longmont, Hawaii, The Motorcycle Gang, Spam, and more. For the time being, if any of you want to reach out to her, we ask that you allow me to handle correspondence as I am only a few miles from her and would be more than happy to ensure she receives it.

You can address any letters, cards, care packages, etc. to Karin at:
13362 Castleton DriveFarmers Branch, TX
75234-5114 Additionally, upon the recommendation of her caregivers, until Karin acclimates to her surroundings, we advise holding off any actual visitation in order to avoid any undue stress or confusion over her new home. Once that time has passed, we will inform everyone and would love for you to be able to see her. That is all for now, but we continue to be indebted and grateful to each and every one of you.
-Marc (on behalf of Karin's family)
January and February Session Highlights
Due to the end of year reporting, statistical data reports and deadline for minutes to be sent to the Presbytery for annual review, the Clerk of Session is a bit behind in reporting business of the Session.
January:Session has been working on creating a new Purpose and Core Value statement of Faith. The majority of the meeting was spent generating ideas.MOTION: To approve CENTRALongmont’s involvement in the Warming Center ministry with the understanding we will only serve as an overflow site. The Longmont Police Department will have a squad car at the church between 8:30-9:00 pm whenever possible on nights we are operating as an overflow site, and sufficient volunteers will be found.
Approved unanimously. February:Purpose and Core Values: Our purpose is to know Jesus and bless our community. (Purpose Statement)Our core values are the red ink of Scripture, particularly the Sermon on the Mount, summarized as…
shalom…we work for wholeness, peace, and justice for all peoplegrace…we forgive as God forgives us integrity…we live what we profess to believe
community…we’re responsible for more than our own lives Continued on Page 4
More Ways to Get Involved… Burrito Ministry to Day Laborers
Here are several ways to get involved in this ministry:• Join us for outreach! - This is a 30-45
minute commitment every Tuesday morning @ 5:30 am.
• Make burritos! - This is a 2 hour monthly commitment approximately every 6 weeks. We gather in the fellowship hall kitchen at 6 pm to cook, assemble burritos, and clean! We even have fun catching up on what's happening in our lives. We make about 180 burritos each time.
• Giving! - In order to keep this ministry going we need a a steady flow of cash every month. It costs approximately $150 each month to make this ministry happen.
• Prayer! - pray for this ministry.

Maxine Winter Memorial Music Scholarship
The Maxine Winter Memorial Music Scholarship is offered to any current participant (youth or adult) in the music ministry of CENTRALongmont.
Applicants must be currently attending high school or have a high school diploma. There is no upper age limit. More information is available with the application. Applications are available in the church office and Information Center and must be received by Sunday, May 1 for consideration. Please contact Lee Smoot (303-776-6833) for more information.
Warming Center You may have noticed that we have not been asking for supplies for the warming center the past few weeks, even when the temperatures were cold, and there hasn't been laundry waiting on a Sunday morning. The Journey, one of our partner churches, recently moved to a new facility on Pike Road and they are able to house up to 49 people. They graciously agreed to serve as the primary facility for the remainder of this season. CENTRALongmont has moved to being an overflow only site. Because of the number of people The Journey can accommodate, the need for overflow has lessened. This has been a huge help financially for Agape since they do not need to pay overnight workers at two facilities. The supplies we have been receiving we are sharing with The Journey as they are needed. Some of our volunteers are also taking shifts at The Journey and we are grateful for their continued participation in this ministry. Agape plans to have a new facility completed by next season. The facility will be located at Front Range Christian Fellowship, 10667 Park Ridge Ave and will be able to accommodate 80 people. We will keep you posted on their progress.

Willing to Help?
The Facilities Committee is looking for a volunteer (or two) who owns a digital camera and would be willing to systematically walk through every room/space in our church and take photographs of the rooms and the “stuff” in them (books, furniture, etc). The Committee would like to copy these photos on a disc and keep them in a safe place offsite. If we suffered a catastrophic fire or other disaster, these photos may be helpful in negotiating a fair insurance settlement. This is a project that does not have to be done all at one time and could be done over a period of days, weeks, or months. If you have a camera, some time, and some interest in providing this service to Central please contact Mike Wea ver ([email protected]) or Lawson Drinkard ([email protected]).

ANOTHER PRESBYTERIAN MISSION
Imagine a solar mission team from our church installing solar power to change lives. We can make our vision a reality by attending Solar School and taking the steps to initiate our project. Located at Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center near Little Rock, Arkansas, the Solar School provides us with the necessary training we need to complete our solar installation and form lasting covenants with partners across the globe. Develop a covenant partnership in a community that needs power by working together. We will jointly install the solar power system while simultaneously building long term, sustainable relationships. We may find partners in Haiti, Central America, Africa, or any other area of our choice. Since 25% of the world lacks electricity, many locations can benefit from solar power, our work areas are almost limitless. Solar power can provide light for schools and orphanages, run a refrigerator for a medical clinic, or even power a nebulizer for children with asthma. Most importantly, it can serve as a catalyst to provide God’s light and power wherever needed. Anyone interested? Contact the office or Tom Hoffman ([email protected])

Community Peace Camp August 8-12th
Before school begins in the fall, kids 3-14 years old will learn what it means to be a peacemaker in fun and interactive ways. Family ministry directors from the Longmont-Boulder area have come together to create what is being called “Community Peace Camp” which will take
place August 8-12th from 9 to 12:30pm. Each day will include games, snacks, creative expression, hands-on lessons in creating peace here in our community, as well as learning what peace looks like on an international level.
Registration will not be ready until May, so families mark your calendars and save the date. With healthy attendance, the camp will be divided into ages 3-6, 7-10, and 11-14 years old. The activities and lessons will be age-appropriate and will include learning as well as doing. There will also be daily times we will come together as a whole camp and have opportunities to learn from one another.
As a joint venture, each church will be given opportunities to support the camp through time, talents, and gifts. Just a few examples of how you can help: sign up as a church for one day of snack preparation, donate resources for creative expression, join the planning team, drive our kids to the camp location (TBD), and much more. Stay tuned.
