Alexander Graham Bell•He was born March 3, 1847 in Scotland

•In 1870, at age 23, he and his parents immigrated to Canada.

•Many called Bell "the father of the deaf". With both his mother and wife deaf, he hoped to eliminate hereditary deafness. He tried to find ways to make their lives easier.

•He is well known for bringing the telephone to Americans.

Albert Einstein was born March 14, 1879 into a Jewish family in Germany.

He was a scientist who is most famous for his theory of relativity.

Greta Garbo was born Greta Lovisa Gustafsson on September 18, 1905. She was born in Stockholm to poor parents.

She immigrated to the US in the 1920’s as a movie star.

She acted in silent movies and later “talkies” (sound movies).

She won many awards.

Elizabeth Blackwell

She immigrated from England in 1832 with her family.

Elizabeth Blackwell was the first woman doctor in America. Many people did not approve of a woman as a doctor and would not let her practice medicine in the hospitals. Therefore she treated women and children in her home and later in the slums of New York.
