LentatImmaculateHeartofMarySchoolLentisaspecialCmeofprayer,sacrificeandgoodworksinpreparaConofthecelebraConofEaster.ThisyearLentbeganonMonday,February8.AtIHMS,thestudentsandstafffocusedonMercy.PopeFrancishasdeclaredthe2016TheHolyYearofMercy.AsPopeFrancisopenedthedoorstoMercyinRome,weatIHMSwillbe‘OpeningourHeartstoMercy’.

DuringtheweeksofLentthestudentsfocusedonhowweasaschool,andindividually,can‘openourheartstomercy’.Mercyisall-embracing;mercyissurrender;mercyisfamilylove;mercyisreachingout;andmercyislookingatGod.DuringLent,theIHMSsocialjusCceteam,(S.M.A.C.)wasraisingmoneyforaninnercityyouthprojectcalledGraffiCGallery.It'saspace,ayouthcommunityartcentre,whereyoungarCstscanmeet,work,research,exchangeideas,learnskillsandshowtheirworkinanenvironmentthatbothencouragesandseesthevalueintheirwork.SeebelowinformaCon.ALentenPrayerServicewasheldonFriday,February19.ThankyoutotheGrades1-4classesforleadingthePrayerService.OnMarch17,theGrades7&8classesparCcipatedinapysankaworkshopledbyMrs.Wdowiak,andassistedbyMissKarhut.ALenten‘PalmSunday’PrayerServicewasheldonFriday,March18ledbyFatherVolodymyrBashutskyy.Allthoseina9endanceattheprayerservicereceivedaspeciallyblessedpussywillow.

IHMSDebatersGoingtoNa=onalTournaments!IHMSDebateTeamqualifiedthreeofitsstudentstoparCcipateinnaConallevel,debatetournaments.NadiaMedynska(Grade7)willbetravellingtoVancouverinMay.ThomasTutor(Grade8)andNinaHutsulak(Grade8)willbetravelingwiththeirdebatecoach,Mr.MichaelBanias,toHalifax,NovaScoCa.ThomasandNinawillrepresentTeamManitobaalongsidestudentsfromSt.John’sRavenscourt,GreyAcademy,BalmoralHall,andSt.Mary’sAcademyattheDonahoeCup(inmid-April).TheywillbeparCcipaCnginatwodayimpromptudebatetournamentalongsidesomeofthebestdebatersinCanada.
