30th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME"GOING HOME FROM CHURCH"

"Believe Me, this man went home from the temple justified but the other did not." —Luke 18:14

When you walk out of church today, will you be justified? Or will you walk away sad? (see Mk 10:22) We are justified, forgiven, and free when we serve God willingly (Sir 35:16). It is our Sunday obligation to attend church, but we must go beyond this and serve God willingly if our petition is to reach the heavens (Sir 35:16). Is your Sunday obligation also a Sunday privilege? If not, you will not leave church justified.

We will go home from church justified and our prayer will pierce the clouds if we are lowly (Sir 35:17). Jesus, God Himself, was lowly in emptying Himself and becoming a human being (see Phil 2:7). He was so lowly as to die on the cross for love of us. He is so lowly as to come to us in Holy Communion under the appearance of bread and wine. If we humble ourselves, admit we are sinners, and cry out for God's mercy (see Lk 18:13), we become lowly and justified. The willing and the lowly go home from church and go home to heaven justified.

Prayer: Father, do whatever You must in me so that You may do whatever You will through me.

Saturday, November 2, All Souls Day:You and I often speak of our “loss” when a loved one dies. It is true that we do lose their physical presence in our lives. We are no longer able to hold them or hug them. But are they really lost? Our faith assures us that death cannot overcome love. The bonds of love which unite us endure and we are joined with our loved ones in the Communion of Saints. Our loved ones are not lost – they are with God who is love. It is good for us to recall with gratitude our loved ones with whom we have shared our life and history. Yes, we may still experience the sadness of their loss, even after many years. But we should also recall the joy we had in their presence and the roles they played in our lives.

During the month of November we recall with love the lives of our deceased family members. On all Souls Day and in the Month of November we pray and offer all the Masses for our departed loves ones. Kindly write all the names of our deceased family members on the all souls day envelop and give it to Louella (Clarendon), Kay Britten, Fr. Raj or put it in the offertory baskets. As we honor and pray for our deceased loved ones, let us honor their memory by remembering the needs of the poor and less fortunate with any gift you can offer in faith. Prayer for the dead is one of the greatest acts of charity we can perform, to help them during their time in Purgatory, so that they can enter more quickly into the fullness of heaven.

In the Month of November, kindly pray the following prayer: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
