A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR DE PARTE DEL PADRE LUAN
Dear parishioners, I wrote this letter before I left for a one week vaca-tion. One thing that I heard about again and again during my seminary years was: “priest’s day off and vacation.” Are you aware that many young priests nowadays rarely take vacation or a day off? We know it is not a healthy work style. But we know many of us are too attached to our office or our work. We call them workaholics. The con-sequence is: many young professionals and young priests get burned out. I try not to be a workaholic. In other words, I try not to be in control of everything. Every time I have to go away for a week or more, I have to trust the Holy Spirit and trust our staff and volunteers will keep everything go-ing peacefully while I am gone. I was grateful the last cou-ple weeks to be able to make time for my family reunion in Florida. It was great to see most of my family in one place, 21 of us in the same place. This week, I will meet with family friends from California, about 14 of us. This is the second year I am able to go with them. We will take a road trip to St. George, Utah. We may travel with two other priest friends who also studied in Mt. Angel seminary. We hope to have a memorable trip. These are some of my per-sonal thoughts. Father LaCanne will come to say Mass and preach about his ministry in Cross Catholic Outreach. Like the Un-bound, Cross Catholic Outreach does not ask for a second collection to be taken up, but they will ask you to take an envelope home and make a personal donation later. I pray Father LaCanne will get generous support here at Immac-ulate Conception, so that he may come back again. Please support their ministries as you can. Queridos feligreses, Escribí esta carta antes que me fuera de vacaciones por una semana. Una cosa que escuché una y otra vez duran-te mis años en el semanario fue: “día libre y vacación del sacerdote.” ¿Sabia usted que muchos sacerdotes jóvenes hoy en día raramente se toman un día libre o vacaciones? Sabemos que no es un estilo de trabajo saludable. Pero sabemos que muchos de nosotros estamos muy pegados a nuestras oficinas o nuestro trabajo. Llamamos a estas personas trabajadores obsesivos. La consecuencia es: muchos profesionales jóvenes y sacerdotes jóvenes se agotan. Intento de no ser un trabajador obsesivo. En otras palabras, intento no estar en control de todo. Cada vez que me tengo que ir por una semana o más, tengo que confiar en el Espíritu Santo y confiar en que nuestro perso-nal y voluntarios mantendrán todo funcionando tranquila-mente mientras no estoy. Estaba agradecido las últimas dos semanas en haber tenido tiempo para ir a mi reunión familiar en Florida. Fue grandioso a ver muchos familiares (21 familiares) en un solo lugar. Esta semana me voy a reunir con alrededor de 14 amigos familiares de Califor-nia. Este es el segundo año que puedo acompañarlos. Va-mos a tomar un viaje a St. George, Utah.
