Stewardship Service “If it does not please you to serve the Lord, decide today whom you will serve…As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” When we commit to serve the Lord, we must be willing to become a Steward in the work of the Lord. A Steward is a person who invests their time, talent and treasure. If we say we serve God, we must actually do something and not merely talk about it!

A Family Perspective

The phrase in today’s gospel, “I don’t know where you come from,” is often used by parents about children and children about parents. Change is so rapid one generation has little in common with another We depend on love, trust, and mutual respect to bridge this gap.

Faith Formation… R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) will begin for our Parish of the Holy Cross on Wednesday, September 23rd, 7:00-8:30 PM, at Immaculate Conception Rectory R.C.I.A. is an open door and loving welcome from Jesus to ALL that feel a calling to become Roman Catholic. There is never any “force” or “obligation” on anyone. R.C.I.A. is also for baptized Catholics who have not received the Sacraments of First Communion and/or Confirmation. R.C.I.A. is a beautiful, graced-filled invitation to update our faith and knowledge of God and God’s Church. A Message from our Pastor… A Parish Evangelization Team

As you may recall, in last week’s bulletin I announced the formation of a new parish Communication Committee to assist us in communicating and reporting on events that happen in our parish. This week, at the suggestion of our Pastoral Council, I announce the formation of the Holy Cross Evangelization Team. Pastoral Council Vice Chairman Fran Sieber has agreed to lead this effort. All of us, by virtue of our baptism, are called to proclaim the Joy of the Gospel. Pope Francis is calling us to go out into the world and to witness to God’s merciful love as revealed by Jesus. To share God’s mercy with those who are broken and to proclaim the peace that comes with a life lived in Christ. With that in mind I envision that our Evangelization Team will make an effort to be present at community events and in the “marketplaces” of our community to share their love of their Catholic Faith. In September, we will start a “Mall Ministry.” Cumberland County Mall is allowing us to use their “community booth” to share information about our faith and our parish. I spoke with local pastors in the county and our hope is that each parish will take a turn and provide volunteers to work at the booth in the Mall. Our goal is to begin our Mall Ministry on Saturday September 19th, the week of the Pope’s visit. We need volunteers to join our Evangelization Team. Please email Fran at [email protected] if you are interested in helping us spread the good news of Our Savior. God Bless you and your families, Father Vince

Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia, Padre Vince

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.

In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks

on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
