before a child’s baptism if they have not attended one in the past
five years. Sessions are held at 1:15 p.m. on second Sundays of
January, March, May, July, September and November, in the Parish
Activity Center. Baptisms are at 1:15 p.m. on the third Sunday of

October, November and December and on the fourth Sunday of April.

appointment with a priest, in order to begin the sacramental
preparation. Only after this initial meeting and assessment can a date
be set for the wedding. The process requires at least 6 months.

SECOND SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME, JANUARY 14, 2018
Gospel Meditation - Encourage Deeper Understanding of Scripture
“He first found his own brother Simon and
told him, ‘We have found the Messiah.’” After
spending the day in the company of Christ, Andrew
took action. He shared the good news! Instead of
keeping his newfound friendship with Jesus all to
himself, Andrew invited his brother into the fold.
Andrew found Simon and “brought him to Jesus.”
This was no small matter because Simon would
become Peter, the first pope! How important it is to
bring others along with us to meet Christ!
Yet, how often do we reach out with the kind
of confidence that Andrew had? Are we ready and
willing to share our faith with our family and
friends? Do we consider our relationship with Jesus
a gift to be shared, or a fact to be safely hidden away
in our personal prayer corner?
Part of our call as Christians is to evangelize
others, to share with them the good news of
salvation. Loving Jesus and following his moral
commands is essential, of course, but it is not the end
of the story. The Gospel message is meant for all
people, and we are meant to be its messengers.
Sometimes this requires us to step out of our comfort
zone. It may mean speaking up when we'd rather be
silent. It may mean inviting someone to Mass when
they might say no. But it might also mean a
conversion for someone we care about. It might mean
a new minister for the Church. Ultimately, it might
mean another saint in heaven.
None of that is up to us, however. What we
can control is only whether we share our faith
joyfully and extend the invitation to others to
experience the peace that comes from knowing
Christ.
2018 Catholic Ministries Appeal (CMA)
Next weekend, the 2018 Catholic Ministries
Appeal will kick off throughout the archdiocese. The
CMA is our opportunity each year to support the
work of six vital ministries and their many
programs, all of which operate right here in our
archdiocese. Also, if we exceed our parish goal for
the CMA, 50% of our overage comes back to the
parish to be used to expand our outreach to the local
needy. Please prayerfully consider supporting this
year’s CMA. Your help is needed to Impact the Story
for thousands of people throughout our archdiocese.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society would like to
thank the parish for their generous donation of
$1,360.45 to their collection the weekend of January
6 & 7.
Food For All Initiative: Be Multiplied is
our response to Pope Francis’
challenge to end hunger by 2025.
During the past month 488 food items
were donated for local food pantries.
This brings the total food items
collected since July 1, 2017 to 2,086! Thanks for your
generosity in helping to feed the local hungry.
Thank You
A big thank you to those who stayed after the
noon mass last weekend to help tear down the
Christmas decorations. Thank you! Thank you! We
so appreciated the extra help!
Thank you to Lehman Dzendzel Funeral
Home and W.H. Dick & Sons ~ Hellwarth Funeral
Homes for their donation of 2018 calendars.
Altar Rosary
All of the ladies of the parish are considered
members of the Altar Rosary Society. In the January
collection envelopes there is a pink envelope
designated as "Altar Rosary Dues." This $5.00
donation helps our Society to continue its work in
providing for some of the needs of our church. In the
past, we have purchased a sacristy refrigerator
server albs and cinctures, donated to the radio
rosary, and made donations toward other parish
celebrations.
The dues contribution from both active and
inactive members continues to help us do these kinds
of things for our church and it is very much
appreciated. Please return the donation in the
collection basket. Our next meeting is Monday,
January 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the PAC. Due to Easter
being early this year some of the items usually
discussed at the February meeting will have to be
taken care of in January. Please try to attend and be
an active member.
Confirmation Candidates on Retreat
The Confirmation candidates from
Immaculate Conception and St. Teresa parishes will
be on retreat in Dayton at the Bergamo Center this
weekend, January 14-15. The bus will be leaving at
1:30 p.m. on Sunday and returning at approximately
2:30 p.m. on Monday. Please keep these wonderful
young men and women in your prayers as they
prepare themselves to be confirmed on April 8, 2018!
Chapel of the Holy Family
Please join us in prayer as the dedication of
the Chapel of the Holy Family will take place today
in El Chan II, a small village in the La Labor region
of Guatemala, and our twin parish. The chapel was
built with the generous financial support of IC
Parish. Thanks be to God, and thanks to all who
helped support this project! “Everyone is happy and
very thankful for the great generosity of our sister
parish, Immaculate Conception,” writes Fr. Bill
Beuth, C.PP.S., who is in ministry there. “May God
bless you and surround you with His love and peace!”
