Anytime by calling the parish office for an appointment.
BAPTISMS: Presenting a child for Baptism is a serious
obligation and requires a faith commitment on the part of the parents
and godparents. This commitment is exemplified by being a practicing,
active Catholic. Parents are obligated to attend a preparation session
before a child’s baptism if they have not attended one in the past
five years. Sessions are held at 1:15 p.m. on second Sundays of
January, March, May, July, September and November, in the Parish
Activity Center. Baptisms are at 1:15 p.m. on the third Sunday of
each month.
WEDDINGS: Please phone the parish office to set-up an
appointment with a priest, in order to begin the sacramental
preparation. Only after this initial meeting and assessment can a date
be set for the wedding. The process requires at least 6 months.

Spiritual Center of Maria Stein 1-937-299-9005.

Gospel Meditation
Judgment tends to have a bad reputation. We
often associate it with condemnation, and in the
Gospels, we associate it with the Pharisees. Today's
Gospel features the Pharisees doing exactly what we
expect. “They observed that some of his disciples ate
their meals with unclean, that is, unwashed, hands.”
The Jewish people had strict purification laws that
applied to all areas of life. The Pharisees attempt to
accuse Jesus of not following the ancestral
traditions. Jesus doesn't take offense at their
judgments per se. He instead points out the
hypocrisy of their words. “You hypocrites: this
people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are
far from me.”
From there, Jesus turns his attention to the
concerns of the heart. “The things that come from
within are what defile.” He lists off a number of sins,
including some the Pharisees were likely struggling
with, including evil thoughts, envy, and arrogance.
When we examine the list, perhaps we're reminded
of our own trips to the confessional! As we strive to
follow Jesus and live with integrity, we must be
aware of our hearts. We must judge our own actions.
Are they leading us closer to God or away from Him?
Are we growing in love of our neighbor, or are we
becoming more closed in on ourselves?
As we move into this week, consider the state
of our own heart. Perhaps you are overly scrupulous
in less important areas. Perhaps there are large
areas of overlooked sin that you've excused for too
long. Whatever it is, the judgment of God need not
cripple us. He offers us a share in His mercy as soon
as we turn to Him. This week, allow your heart to be
transformed!

Suicide Awareness Community Walk ASSURE, Area Suicide SUpport REsources.
This groups mission is to bring awareness of suicide
prevention practices throughout Mercer County and
the surrounding area through community outreach
programs. They wish to support those experiencing
thoughts of suicide and their families, as well as,
suicide loss survivors by providing support resources,
support groups, and by providing financial
assistance to those unable to pay a suicide related
expense. Our county has had 2 deaths by suicide, 22
attempts and 110 threats since January of 2017. In
Ohio, every six hours someone dies by suicide.
Suicide affects everyone: young, old, rich, poor,
community leaders, and neighbors. These people are
our family, our friends, our classmates, or our co-
workers. Help them prevent these losses by
participating in this walk. Please join them Sept. 8,
8:00-12:00 at the Mercer County Fairgrounds, to
raise awareness and support for survivors of suicide
throughout our community. Registration on the day
of the walk at Kenn-Feld Building. More info at
