◆Maximum safety

Special features:

Delta-peak sensitivity:

Capacity limit:

Input power monitor:

The automatic chargetermination program works on the principle ofthe Delta-peak voltage detection.

The charging capacity alwayscalculated by multiple of the charging currentand time.If the charging capacity exceeds thelimit the process will be terminated automaticallywhen you set the maximum value.

Processing time limit:you can also restrain themaximum process time to prevent from anypossible defect.

To protect the car batteryusing as input power from being damaged thevoltage of i t always monitored. lf it drops belowthe lower limit the process will be endedautomatically.

◆Voltage balancer for Li-polymer battery inside

B5 has an individual-cell-voltage balancer inside. So it does not need any balancer separately whencharging Lipo battery for cell balancing.

Warning and safety notes

Never leave the charge unsupervised when it isconnected to its power supply.lf any malfunctionis observed immediately terminate the processand refer to the operation manual.

Keep away the unit from dust, damp, rain, heatdirect sunshine and vibration.Do not drop it.

The circuit of the unit is designed to be poweredby 12V DC only.

This unit and the battery to charge should be setup on a head-resistant,non-inf lammable and non-condu-ctive surface. Never place them on a carseat, carpet or similar si tuation.

keep all the inflammable volatile materials wellaway fom operating area.

Be sure to understand the information of thebattery to be charged accuraltely. lf the programis set up incorrectly the battery to be charged.Reverse the sequence when disconnecting.

To avoid short-circuits between the charge lead.always connect the charge cable to the unit first.Reverse the sequence when disconnecting.

Do not connect more than one battery pack tothe charge lead at any one time.

Do not attempt to charge or discharge thefollowing types of battery.

Please bear in mind of checking the followingpoint before charge operation.

--Battery pack which consists of different types ofcell(including

different manufacturers)

--Battery is already fully charged or just slightlydischarged.

--Non-rechargeable batteries (Explosion hazard).

--Batteries that require a different chargetechnique from Nicd,NIMH,Li-Poly or Pb.

--Faulty or damaged battery.

--Battery fit ted with an integral charge circuit or aprotection circuit .

--Batteries installed in a device or which areelectrically linked to other components.

--Batteries that are not expressly stated by themanufacturer to be suitable for the currents thecharger delivers during the charge process.

--Did you select the appropriate program whichare suitable for the type of battery?

6

Page 7: Imax B5 Manual

--Did you set up adequate current for charging ordischarging?

--Lithium battery pack can be composed withparallel and series circuits mixed. You have tocheck the composition of the battery packcarefully before charging.

--Are all connections firm and safe,or is there anintermittent contact at any point in the circuit?

Those warnings and safety notes areparticularly important! Please follow theinstructions for a maximum safety;otherwisethe charger and the battery can be damagedviolently. And also it can cause a fire to injure ahuman body or to lose the property.

Lithium polymer battery program

These programs are only suitable forcharging and discharging Lithium-polymerbatteries with a nominal voltage of 3.7V/cell.These batteries need to adopt differentcharge technique is termed a constantvoltage (CV) and constant current (CC)method. The charge current variesaccording to the battery capacity, and isusually C/2 rate (half capacity as a chargecurrent). The final voltage of chargeprocess is also very important;it should be4.2V/cell for the nominal voltage of3.7V/cell. If the final voltage exceeds bymore than 1% during charge at any reasonthe battery will explode.

When you are willing to alter the parametervalue in the program, press start/enter keyto make it blink then change the value with

of key. The value will be stored bypressing start/enter key once.

The chargecurrent and nominal voltage as for cellcount set on the charge program mustalways be correct for the battery to becharged.

Charging Li-Poly battery at balancing mode

This is for balancing the voltages ofLithium batteries of the battery packto be charged. To do this, the batterypack being charged should have theindividual cell connector. Andconnect it to the individual port at theright side of charger. You do not needconnect the battery output jack to theoutput of charger at this program.

In this mode, the charging processwill be different from ordinarycharging mode. The internalprocessor of the charge will monitorthe voltages of each cel l of thebattery pack and control thecharging current feeding to each cellto normalize the voltage.

Inquiry the voltage of individual cells

You can monitor the present voltageof individual cell by pressing DEC ofINC button during the process. 13

Pb (lead-sulphuric acid) batterycharging program

This is programmed for charging Pb(lead-acid) battery with nominal voltagefrom 2 to 12V. Pb batteries are totallydifferent from NiCd or NiMH batteries. They can only del iver relatively lowercurrent compare to their capacity, andsimilar restrictions definitely apply tocharge. So the optimal charge currentwill be 1/10 of the capacity. Pb batteriesmust not be charged rapidly. Alwaysfollow the instruction is supplied by themanufacturer of battery.
