Imam Zayn-ul-Abideen (cont’d from page 1)

Imam Zayn-ul-Abideen, for the almost 34 years that he lived after his father, he spent it in prayers and supplication to Allah (swt), in remembrance of his martyred father, and teaching people about Karbala and the Imamat. It is for his ever being in prayerful prostration, that he was popularly called "Sajjad".

The knowledge and piety of this Holy Imam was matchless. He was so mindful of Allah that whenever he sat for ablution for prayers, the complexion of his face would change and when he stood at prayer his body was seen trembling. When asked why this was, he replied, "Don’t you know before whom I stand in prayer, and with whom I hold discourse?"

His charity was unassuming and hidden. After his passing away, the people said that hidden charity ended with the departure of this Holy Imam. Like his grandfather, Imam Ali, he used to carry on his own back at night bags of flour and bread for the poor and needy families in Medina and he so maintained hundred of poor families in the city.

Imam Zayn-ul-Abideen was not given the time to offer his prayers peacefully, nor deliver any sermons. He, therefore, adopted a new course which proved to be very beneficial to his followers. This was in compiling supplication prayers for the daily use of man in his endeavour to approach the Almighty Lord.

The invaluable collection of his edited prayers are known as Assahifah Assajjaadiyyah اديةّ

The collection is a treasury of .الصحيفة السجwonderfully effective supplications to the Lord in inimitably beautiful language. Only those who have ever come across those supplications would know the excellence and the beneficial effect of these prayers. Through these prayers, the Imam gave all the necessary guidance to the faithful during his seclusion.

On the 25th of Muharram 95 AH, when he was in Medina, al-Walid, the then ruler had this Holy Imam poisoned. The funeral prayers were conducted by his son, the 5th apostolic Imam, Muhammad al-Baqir (as) and his body was laid to rest in the cemetery of Jannat-ul-Baqi in Medina.

The Wicked Plan

Muawiyah made efforts to deceive people in believing

that his relationship with Hassan bin Ali (PBUH)

is good, to

benefit from the popularity of Ahlul-Bayt (PBUT)

for his

own interests. He made huge efforts to develop marital

ties with the Bani Hashem to seem like he's family.

He mailed the ruler of Medina, Marwan bin Hakam, to

make marriage proposal, on behalf of his son Yazid, for

the cousin of Imam Hassan and Imam Hussain (PBUT)

, part

of which included paying off the debts of her father,

Abdullah bin Jaffar.

Marwan delivered Muawiyah’s message to Abdullah,

who replied: “we have to consult our master Hassan

bin Ali (PBUH)

and do what he suggests.”

Marwan arranged a meeting and invited the notables

from Bani Hashem and Bani Umayyad and made a place

at the top of the gathering for Imam Hassan (PBUH)

and

confidently presented the proposal of Muawiyah, and

said: “whatever her father decides for the amount of

dowry would be accepted, and we will pay the debts of

Abdullah; and between Bani Hashem and Bani

Umayyad will be a permanent peace as well.” Then he

continued: “Yazid is a young man with no equal. You

have to know that, by this marriage, the horror

received by Bani Hashem will be much more than the

horror received by Bani Umayyad …”

When done, Imam Hassan (PBUH)

stood up and replied:

“When you said the dowry will be accepted no matter how much her

father decides, you have to keep in mind that, in the marriage of our

children, we follow the tradition of the Great Prophet (PBUH&HP)

and we do

not exceed what he recommended.

With respect to the debs of her father, it has never been a case in which

we pay our debs by the dowry of our daughters.

If there is a conflict between Bani Hashem and Bani Umayyad it is for

the sake of Allah, and there will be no peace through the worldly affairs

on this matter.

With respect to your words that the honor received by Bani Hashem

from this marriage will be more than Bani Umayyad’s, it should be said

that if caliphate (as for ruling) was superior to prophethood, then what

you say would be correct. However, prophethood is superior to

caliphate, so it would be Umayyad who will receive the honor, and not

us…

We saw it prudent that this girl marry her cousin Qasem bin Mohammad

bin Jaffar, and I assigned for her dowry one of my agricultural pieces of

land in Medinah, which Muawiyah had offered ten thousand dinars for

this lanf and I did not accept. For sure this will suffice them.”

Accordingly, Imam Hassan (PBUH)

prevented that marriage which had

the wicked intention of Muawiyah behind it. He also stressed that the

disagreement between Bani Hashem and Bani Umayyad is not a tribal

one, but rather a matter of religion and guidance.

Hassan’s (PBUH) Life by Ahmad Zamani (with minor changes))

ABIS offers condolences to all Muslims upon the martyrdom anniversary

of the great grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP)

Cooler Weather Inside & Outside With cooler weather on its way, please encourage

your children to come to school with a coat/jacket.

Our playground can be quite cool, due to the wind.

Students are expected to go outdoors for recess. A

child who is too sick to go out at recess is too sick to

be attending school. We do not have indoor

supervision for students at recess time.

Any requests for a child to stay in at recess need to

be accompanied by a doctor’s note, indicating the

reason and length of time.

If the weather is extremely cold, stormy or rainy, an

indoor routine is followed.

Please remember to label your child’s items in the

event that they may go missing. It’s easier to track

them in the “Lost and Found” when this happens!

School Lockdown Safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority for Ahlul-Bayt Islamic School. We have been implementing a number of measures as part of a comprehensive plan aimed at ensuring our school remains a safe place for our students to learn.

One of the procedures our school will be practicing is a lockdown drill.

During a lockdown drill:

• Classroom doors are secured and the students remain inside the room until instructed by the teacher to resume their activities.

• All exterior doors are locked and no one is permitted to enter or leave the building.

• Students are kept inside the school and classrooms when circumstances make it safer to stay in the classroom rather than evacuate.

Just as we prepare our students to properly respond to fire drills, they also need to learn proper response during a lockdown drill.

These drills should be treated with the same level of importance as fire drills.

Please be assured that staff will spend time discussing the importance of this procedure with students prior to running a drill. We will also take time after the drill to remind them that it was only a practice and there was no danger. When possible, our School Resource Officer may assist us in conducting the lockdown drills.

Please take the time to speak with your son/daughter about this procedure and reinforce its importance. We practice these drills to ensure our school remains a safe place for teaching and learning.
