Visitors at the College of Engineering had the opportunity to meet with the Department Chair and staff from each of the 5 departments within the college, the Engineering Office of Student Services and student organizations throughout Cherry. The day started out with a greeting from the Dean, Dr. Jack Hopper, who gave everyone an overview of the college and instructions on making the most of the day’s event. Each of the college’s 5 departments also offered individual sessions for students and parents to acquire more information about the program, research currently being conducted and insight into future projects students can participate in. After sessions concluded, every guest had the opportunity to visit the rest of the campus, eat lunch in the Dining Hall, and visit with various student service departments. Congratulations to Ph.D. Chemical Engineering students, Jie Fu and Qiang Xu. Congratulations to Dr. Alberto Marquez, assistant professor of industrial engineering. Electrical Engineering students Phillip Huff, Stanley Richardson-Whyte, Alan Cleveland, and Chase Patten took 2nd place at the annual IEEE Center for the Commercialization of Electric Technologies Student Design Contest. Congratulations to Alberto Marquez, Weihang Zhu and Julia Yoo. Congratulations to Dr. Helen Lou, a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Dr. Joseph Majdalani named 2013 Engineer of The Year. Industrial Engineering, ‘74 M.E. Industrial Engineering) Jorge L. Quijano presented the Panama Canal Expansion Program during his recent visit to Lamar University, in Beaumont, Texas. Click Here to see it online A native of Port Arthur, Bob Jones graduated in 1973 with a B.S. in civil engineering with the environmental track and later earned his master of engineering degrees from UT in Austin. The Texas Water Quality Board hired him in July 1973. Jones advanced at the state, eventually becoming chief engineer of the Construction Grants and Water Quality Plan- ning Division. In 1976, Bob met and married Beth, his wife of 37 years. The couple has two children. Recognizing the opportunity to cre- ate a business helping industry and local gov- ernments deal with the ever-increasing volume of environmental regulation, Jones left the state in 1982 with another engineer and formed the consulting company, Jones and Neuse. Spring Open House

The Cherry Engineering Building had over 250 guest from incoming

and prospective students on February 23 at Lamar University Open

House. Visitors at the College of Engineering had the opportunity to
