For Seb Chua, an award-winning sculptor, creativityis a journey in discovery. He believes creating artworks is aspecial moment, even made more special when it is born outof a noble desire to help others.

Chua’s desire is becoming a reality as he is using hiscreative talent to save the lives of women and children. Hiscreation, “Mother’s Love,” is UNICEF’s symbol for its nationalcampaign to better their plight. The cold cast bronzesculpture of a breastfeeding mother cradling her child is atouching symbol of the intrinsic bond between mother andchild.

The award-winning sculptor seeks to bring forth thebest in Filipino art and sculpture through figures interpreted ina very modern, abstracted style. A graduate of UST Fine Artsand Columbia College in Canada, he immerses himself in hislove for art apart from being at the helm of product researchand design for his family business.

“The wealth of artistic imagination, the pursuit ofll d th l ft l t th f d ti f hiexcellence, and the lofty goals at the very foundation of his

art practice, Chua has amply proved that artists can indeedshine even after making a living in another profession so longas they are armed with the passion and the mission to sailforth, create meaningful art, and ultimately attain what theyhave originally set out for art’s greater glory,” art critic GinoDormiendo describes Chua’s genius.

Chua has exhibited in galleries such as Art Asia andgArtwalk at SM Megamall, and is the recipient of an honorablemention in the Art Association of the Philippines’ (AAP) 2006annual exhibit.

His collaboration with UNICEF, he hopes to “givechildren the chance to live and have a healthy life,” givingmothers and children a better chance at survival through anartwork celebrating the miracle of creation.“I consider every work unique every art original These areI consider every work unique, every art original. These areprecious and priceless moments that would leave a legacy. It would be an even greater legacy if it is connected or wasborn out of the noble desire to help others, especially thechildren,” he concludes.

Cagbalete Island is somewhat well-preserved, tranquil and rustic place. The island’sallure, aside from its clear waters and untouched shape, is its ease of access. Mauban is only aboutfour hours’ drive from Manila. From the Mauban pier, it takes 45 minutes to reach Cagbalete by boat.

The lodgings are nowhere near the prevailing amenities of middle-of-the-road beaches. At Pansacola one would spend the night in a nipa hut with open windows and a nonexistent door yetAt Pansacola, one would spend the night in a nipa hut with open windows and a nonexistent door yetone can sleep heavenly as it is shrouded by the sea breeze.

Cagbalete isn’t for deep-sea swimmers or snorkelers. Perhaps some other part of theisland is, the sea was flat and shallow; at low tide, one could walk afar on radiant, newly exposed sand. But when the tide returns, the waters slink to about a stone’s throw away from the cottages, conveyingwith them the breezy puff of air and the calm hum of slim waves flouting on sand.

There is always the island, though -the sand, the sea and all memory of them. They’re more than good enough to hold on tothe sublime.

While the collections of more tested designers are highlighted during the event, the PhilippineFashion Week served just as well as a plinth for up and coming designers to showcase their inventive and spankingnew talent.

EvenGuarnes’ unfussy men’s line became radiant and eye catching. The other designers who completed this segment of the show included Czarina Villa, Kenneth Chua, Lizanne Cuaand Noel Crisostomo.

Rebellion, adventurism, and a devil-may-care attitude dominated the fashion event. One man inhis weather-beaten jeans stole the show from the reigning catwalk superstars, action star Robin Padilla. The “Dstrukt”denim wars showcased Jag’s and 2010 collections. Robin walked the ramp together with his children Ali and Kylie.Actor/model Will Devaughn shared the ramp, too with Robin.

The Fashion Week was justly a pleasant and arid weekend to conclude the dry, fun, and vibrantsummer in the Philippines.

Diana J. Limjoco might well be the modernday incarnate of Gaia, Greek Goddess of the Earth. She emulates Gaia’s succinct wisdom and passion forenvironmental advocacies and earth-savvy lifestylechoices long before ‘Going Green’ became an invogue statement.

A i i i i f h i li iAs a pioneering visionary of harmonious livingwith nature, Diana has always transcended the spiritof her times. In the ‘60s, she was an unwaveringecologist who promoted and practiced recycling, organic farming and organic poultry raising.

She became publicly active in promoting thecause of the environment in the ‘70s. Like the true soulof the Greek Goddess Gaia, she had the true meetinggof the minds with the divine element of waterpersonified by the famed French oceanographer,award-winning filmmaker and environmentaladvocate Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Diana andJacques fought to protect the environment in their firstcollaborations in California back in 1976. They bothstruggled to address the whole world on the rapidlyprogressing problem of water pollution. There was noturning back thereonturning back thereon.

Today, Diana aptly exemplifies the title of “TheEmpress of Green.” In the fascinating Island of PuertoPrincesa in Palawan , where she currently inhabits, sheis yet again engrossed in another environmentalendeavor.

Together with her husband, Dave Dewbre,th t il bl d l t i t t b i th tthey trail blazed an electric transport business thataims to reduce humanity’s carbon footprints and helpcurb climate change. At present, the couple isconcentrating their energies on this righteous andcommendable cause.

With the kind help extended by the PuertoPrincesa City local government through the leadershipof Mayor Edward Hagedorn, the couple imaginedy g , p gthat their undertaking will be their magnum opus.

For her accomplishments, Diana has won the“Most Inspiring Batanguena Entrepreneur” specialcategory in 2009. She was likewise featured in “GoNegosyo’s” bestselling book in 2010. The bookhighlighted the stories of the country’s top 55 womenentrepreneurs.

Diana is as timeless and boundless as Gaia, theEmpress of Green. She has founded the thriving andgrowing Northern California TV Station, Channel 15 inthe United States to further her drive for preserving andnurturing nature.

True to form as a statesman and in a rare show of class in often controversial and contentiousPhilippine politics, Senator and Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Manny Villar graciously and adamantlyconceded his bid for the presidency to gallantly give way to the emergent frontrunner and President-elect BenignoAquino III in the 2010 polls. Bearing his trademark integrity, unshakeable confidence and noble mission and resolveto move forward, reunite and rebuild the country, Mr. Sipag and Tiyaga (hardwork & dedication) aims to cooperatewith the new administration and continue his grassroots programs for mobilizing entrepreneurship among theg p g g p p gcountry’s marginalized sector.

Beyond the presidential campaign, Villar’s sheen and luster as an icon among the masses for his ragsto riches story remains. Villar hailed from the streets of Tondo and at an early age, helped his mother sell seafood atthe Divisoria market in order to support his siblings and himself to school. Upon graduating from the University of thePhilippines with a degree in Business Administration he worked as an accountant and financial analyst of variousmultinational companies. Proving his mettle in business and entrepreneurship, he left the corporate world andestablished the largest homebuilding company Crown Asia and shopping malls – Starmalls, starting from an initialcapital of P 10 000 000capital of P 10,000,000.

Villar’s foray into politics proved successful as well when he was elected congressman of Las Pinasand Muntinlupa in 1992 and re-elected in the next two terms, consistently posting landslide victories. He was chosenas Speaker of the House of Representatives in 1998.

Villar was elected Senator of the Republic in 2001 and assumed the Senate presidency during the 3rd

regular session of the 13th Congress in July, 2006 with the staunch support of the majority of his colleagues. He wasthe previous Senate pro-tempore and held the chairmanship of the committees on Finance, Foreign Relations,Public Order and Agriculture & Fisheries.

He is the first post-war public official who became both the Speaker of the House of Representativesand the Senate President, and the President of the Nacionalista Party.

An exceptional achiever, Villar is indeed a rare inspiration who made his mark in Philippine politics, real estate business and lives of countless Filipinos who treasure his virtues and vision.
