RepresentationThe representation of the actors in the music video are different as they are represented in different ways. The wife who is played by Dianna Agron is represented as a house wife as she is shown saying by to her husband as he goes to work and she stays home. The clothes she is shown wearing are very old fashioned as they are made of lace which isn't a fashion that is very common in this day and age. She is dressed in a old fashioned manner but the rest of the video is very modern which makes her capture the audiences attention. Throughout the video you see scenes of her crying which make the audience feel connected to her as you can feel the pain she is going through. The husband is played by Chris Messina is represented as a un-loyal husband as we see him in dingy pubs and clubs with other women. This makes the audience look at him negatively as he is seen as a dog. Sam Smith is hardly present in the music video as it relies on the strong narrative created by the actors but when he is seen it shows him signing in front of a red curtain which looks as if he is signing in the dingy clubs that the man is in.

Voyeurism Voyeurism is most common with men being the ‘voyeurs’ and the women being sexualised. This is seen in the music video as we the husband in the club with another women there are several close up of the women’s body being touched by the mans hands. There are also close ups of her face showing her emotions while they make love and it shows the lady get undressed which is sexualising the women as it uses her body to make the scene even more effective.

Objectification of womenWomen are objectified in this music video because they are shown as weak as we see the women crying in several different scenes as whereas we see the man going out and enjoying himself as he is disloyal to his wife. His wife is playing the role of the house wife that greets her husband as he gets home from work as it is shown in the video this plays along with the typical stereotypes on women in society. The women that is shown being romantically involved with the man is sexually objectified as there are close up shots of her body.

Links between lyrics and visuals The lyrics and visuals link throughout the music video. For example, “The proof is in the way it hurts” while the audience hear this it shows a close up shot of the protagonists crying and her make up drooling down her face which makes her look like a broken women. “Denying every tear” this lyric is followed by a extreme close up shot of the protagonists crying again. The lyrics are very emotional as they are often about the feelings of the female protagonist.
