This report is prepared by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources –
Division of Forest Resources in cooperation with timber buyers, forestry
consultants and division foresters who participate in the semi-annual survey.
Illinois timber prices from price surveys are now calculated and published on
a statewide basis (combining the historic southern, clay-pan and prairie
zones). Ranges of prices paid and averages price paid across the state are
shown. This report can be used only as a guide for determining market value
of timber. General market and economic conditions are the major price-
determining factors. Local considerations such as markets, site conditions,
timber accessibility, topography and terrain, distance to markets, tree size
and quality, size of sale and other factors also affect prices paid. Please
contact your local state forester’s field office (District Forester) or the
Division of Forest Resources headquarters at One Natural Resources Way,

This report is published by the IDNR, Division of Forest Resources in cooperation with
timber buyers, mills, forestry consultants and foresters who participate in a semi-annual
survey or report sale results. “Stumpage” is the price in the woods on the stump. “FOB”
is the price for cut timber/logs delivered to a landing or mill. Ranges of prices paid
show highest and lowest reported. The average price paid across Illinois, by species, is
the best estimate of market value of timber during the period. Actual prices buyers pay
are subject to US and global market and economic conditions combined with local factors
